I did always find that amusing. Why don't cops patrol the high crime areas more often? As much as I hate pigs, they do serve as a deterrent to all but the most determined and hardened criminal offender. Its like they want those areas to remain a cesspool of criminal behavior. God knows its not like they're afraid to go in there, I've seen lots of cases of police brutality and even though they may be deep in gang territory they still swing their giant dicks around in the air and act like assholes. Plus, it surely would help them meet their quotas (I got a friend who's been working in the SDPD for two years now, so I KNOW they still work under the bullshit quota system, they've just changed the name to some other similar shit to go around the fact that having quotas to meet is illegal).

Well if you want the real reason why they probably don't patrol the high crime areas, it is simply because each arrest results in a lot of paperwork and resources used, most crimes in the area generally don't get reported or can't be figured out after the crime has happened (less paperwork and resources). At least that was what we learned in my Forensic Psychology class some time ago. I think the most dedicated law enforcement groups are the Boarder Patrol (to what I've seen) and SWAT.

I was hinting more towards some greater sinister plan to keep oppressed peoples caged in socioeconomic entrapment, but I also see the truth in the simplicity of your explanation. Who the fuck wants to do paperwork?

I was just giving the most pragmatic answer, seeing as maintaining a police force is expensive, a well trained one is even harder, and an honest police force is virtually impossible (as it would require extensive supervision, the needed resources for such a mythical thing is practically impossible in even large cities, much less small ones). I must admit though socioeconomic entrapment is just as likely, or even a combination of the two.

Yeah, a pragmatic approach to the police is the best way to look at the issues. Since you said you had a forensic psych class then I'm sure you've learned of the concept of equifinality? It's usually more referenced in the abnormal psych classes but it applies here too.
I will admit though, when it comes to law enforcement I am more on the jaded side and almost instantly try to find something to hate them for without giving them the benefit of the doubt. I suppose I would have taken the same point of view towards the military had I not served. Funny how simple experience shapes our perceptions, and our perceptions of the world are the way we interact and cope with our reality.

I can't really feel jaded to any form of military or law enforcement agency (in the US) due to having family members that serve in most branches (at least the "Americanized" side of the family).

I usually take opposite stance and because of their shared experiences I learn to distrust the system more. I may just be a cynic though.

Distrust in the system is fine, after all the most influential (higher ranking) people in such agencies are the root of corruption. I'm talking about the lower ranking people (most of my family members) who end up in situations where they can only follow orders or be punished for disobedience. Hell in the last 4 years there have been two suicides in my family due to depression/stress on the job and one was fired for having morals and reporting his captain.

I got threatened with a court martial for something I refused to do on the grounds of morality but eventually caved into the pressure and ended up doing it. One stubborn decision of my humanity would not be worth losing all benefits and getting a dishonorable discharge. I hate being the lowest cog in the machine with a conscience, it gets you nowhere at best and it gets you in knee-deep shit at worst. So, I feel for your family. It really sucks to come to the personal realization that you can't change a system from the inside, and the harder you try the more the system changes you instead (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)

QUOTE(Pseudoshy @ Feb 6 2012, 18:38) I like Dlaglacz. I hate trying to say his name though. When I do, it sounds like [ eeuauaughhhuauaahh.ytmnd.com] this.' I pronounce it like De/lag/lacks. Fucked if I know if that's anything close to how it's pronounced. And Dlag is okay. QUOTE(cptkleenex @ Feb 6 2012, 20:07) It almost seems as if there is going to be a default winner in my signature thread and the avatar rad hates will have to remain since there's no challenger. Not a good match but thems be the brakes.
My computer isn't working, so I'm kind of without my programs to make something, otherwise I would of churned some out for you by now.

Going by Polish spelling, since it sounds very polish, it would probaby be announced as something around "Dlugglatj" the cz is kind of pronounced like a japanese "chi"

I actually pronounce it pretty much like Rob does. I just enjoy fucking with him about his name.
In other news, I feel fucking great this morning. It seems to be occurring more and more often. Must be swinging towards the manic spectrum of my almost bipolar disorder.

Aww Brain (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Sabotage your partner. If he's not your friend, then fuck him. You gotta look out for number 1 above all.
