The last time I tried to swim I sank to the bottom of a pool, luckily said pool had a ladder type thing that was not removed the last time they did some work on it and I was able to climb out.

I can't swim that good, but I sure as hell can sink.
I'm like a saw in the water.

I too am about as buoyant as lead. Falling into a pool as a small child and immediately sinking to the bottom like a stone kind of made me shy away from water for a while. Oddly enough, once I did try to get back into swimming, I couldn't seem to get my head to stay underwater. It's as if it's full of air or something.

4:13 just reminded me that I was drowned as a kid. I was like 7 or 8 and my cousin (who was about 20 at the time) thought it would be a good idea to jump into the deep end off the second story balcony into the pool. Well after falling a great distance, and sinking all the way to the bottom of the deep end, I guess I couldn't swim up to the top alone. I passed out, woke up and they were pumping water out of me. For a month or so after that I was terrified just to take a shower. I hated the noise of water running, I couldn't even flush the toilet without leaving one foot out of the bathroom and ready to run like hell as soon as I flushed the toilet. I don't know why but it eventually went away and I became a pretty decent swimmer. I think that was the only phobia I've ever had and it didn't last too long after the trauma.
EDIT: Oh yeah I forgot to say, I was kicking and screaming the whole way up, as I seemed to have sensed ill intent when my cousin picked me up. Make no mistake, I did not want to go in the water, I was forced into it.

Pseudo just reminded me, I used to do that same thing with the toilet, but for different reasons. I read in a kids' magazine, in some Gross But True Facts article or something, that when you flush a toilet, thousands toilet water molecules end up being thrown up into the air. To this day, I don't know if that's true of some toilets, or they were just trolling gullible kids. I've definitely seen some public toilets that flush with the sound and force of a jet engine, so it seems plausible something would get thrown upwards.

You ever pee fully naked, and then flush? Do it at night when its cold and you'll have the answer you're looking for. Or drop one of those blue hockey pucks in like I do so blue water will mark if any splashes occur.

Does anyone have Christmas decorations or a tree put up? I don't. It doesn't even feel like Christmas to me.
Maybe it's because the weather's been so nice. Or maybe it's just because I don't give a shit anymore.

Weather is nice in San Diego right now. It feels slightly chillier than years past, but it's still rather warm. I was out at Lake Murray this morning.

The weather isn't nice. At least not when you compared it to how it's supposed to be at that time of the year. I'd love to not ahve to put up all that shit, but I'm already happily looking forward to a whole week before pre-christmas stress (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Also: What's an anecdote exactly? I only know Anode, and that only has something to do with manners of speaking when chemistry cat is somehow involved. I already checked the Wiki and am unsatisfied with it's inconclusive explanation. What do you mean? You seriously dunno that word? It's like... a little story about something you did or something that once happened to you that you tell to friends or family for a laugh or something. EDIT: Actually, it's one of those words that sounds too complex for what it actually is. :P This post has been edited by Lolicon_of_Sin: Dec 11 2011, 06:06

I didn't check the wiki, but as far as I know, an anecdote is a personal account of a past event. It can be a very brief thing, like when you post random things about your life, or it can be a loooong drawn out 20 page essay about some major event in your life. Basically it's just a story, but it has to be real. If you ever hear the term 'anecdotal evidence/proof' it means that the study in question used people telling their story to prove something. Of course anecdotal evidence is the flimsiest, but taken in a large enough sample from the population in question there is some power to it.
EDIT: Shit, that reminds me, I have to do my stats term paper that is due Monday morning... I'll probably put it off till Sunday night.

Hmm... Heh, I thought it was just a story that you tell people for lulz.

It can be, and most often it is. I was just adding at the end what an anecdote can mean in a scientific study, because I wanted to outdo your response.

SEE!!?? Wikipedia blabbered something about books and bacon instead! (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Well, thanks for the understandable explanation. In german there's a less fancy expression for that.... it translates as something along "to speak from one's experience".....
