I had a couple of fun dreams I should write down before I forget about them.
In the first one, I was out at night with a bunch of people from a web site where people are typically heavily armed, and there was a furniture store robbery, with a car and an SUV full of bad guys who had taken three hostages, and were probably going to kill them, and we ended up breaking it up. At one point, I'm lying flat on the ground with someone rapid-firing an AR-15 over me, thinking "I trust my ###### brothers!" : D (I would never do that.) And I notice that he's starting to get target fixation, and his aim is dropping, and the bullets are starting to impact near me. So I roll away, so I'm no longer directly under his line of fire. The ground was uneven, and that moved me out of cover a bit, so I guess that's why I was staying in the depression. At the end, we call the police to come mop up and arrest the BGs. One of the cops is asking me in a tired voice, "How many people did you kill." And I'm like, nobody got killed. It was suppressive fire.
And in the other dream, I'm playing this game, that has everything up through energy weapons and rocket launchers, but it all looks completely real, and it plays surprisingly like a realtime roguelike. There was one little interstitial level, where the stairs come up into a little corridor that's one unit tall and wide and two units long, and then opens up into this larger room, which an HV player has filled with their custom monsters, from tiny bees all the way up to tyrannid bio-titans. They're all just standing there waiting to be aggro'd, and I'm seeing what I can pull to the corridor and fight 1v1.
There was Monero in the game. Both the digital currency, and actual Monero banknotes. (Fuck-the-banks notes?) Instead of green, they were orange, a different hue for every denomination, and had Monero-chan on them. I had about $30 worth of the physical bills I'd bought in case of the apocalypse.
So the next level is like a library, and I've lured cybertanks and other dangerous monsters onto it via stair-scumming. The environment is inviolate. Nothing can shoot through the stacks or push them over, not even a tank. I'm still figuring out how everything works. You can wield an energy shield in your left hand, and a rocket launcher in your right. That doesn't make any sense, an ATGM should use both hands. It's actually a very strong configuration against tanks. But the rocket launcher is gimped; it will always seek on the weakest unit in view, so if there's a cybertank and a drone, it will fly over and hit the drone. You have to get the tank by itself to kill it.
Around this time I notice that I can no longer go down stairs. It's very annoying, it really breaks immersion. The stairs are just a caret symbol on the floor, like >, and for some reason they no longer work. I start taking off all my gear, hoping that a tank doesn't come around the corner. Okay, I take off the power armor, now I'm in my underwear, which looks like the USMC skivvies from Full Metal Jacket, drop all my inventory, and... I can go down stairs. I literally merge through the floor, I can feel myself doing it, and I can stop a couple feet down and come back up.
I try putting my knee pads back on. They're part of my original issue gear, and they have my username from a site I was on many years ago printed on them in a futuristic dot-matrix font. Can still do stairs. On a hunch, I trying picking up the pens, because they're an item I recently got. Some are black technical pens, and others are fluorescent yellow paint markers. Nope. It will not let me do stairs carrying even a single pen. I figure these must either have a really powerful application I haven't found yet, like a magic marker or an astral light pen, or be really specific to this level, because it does not want me changing level with a pen.
Now practically speaking, I never play FPS games, but Nethack sure contaminated my brain from many years ago.
...And that took over an hour to write up. That's why I don't do dream diaries every day.
** Actually, now that I think about it, those might have been ECM drones protecting the tanks.
