Last season, I used Liquid Fence, and it worked. This year, I'm trying the Bobbex deer & rabbit repellent concentrate, and it works too. I now smell like a mixture of rotting cat food, rotten eggs, rotten garlic, and several other things. But at least deer aren't trying to eat me any more.

Applying it directly to the few plants that deer prefer is less bothersome than having an 8'-10' fence all around your flower garden.

Due to the elimination of large predator species, we now have way too many deer and it's an ecological problem all by itself. [blog.nature.org] Further reading.

Shooting helps, but you'd have to be there 24/7. They will eat roses down to the ground in a few minutes.
