Yep I heard that it's based on a book, I assume that's it's name. Apparently, there was also a moviebased on that same book, also called "Stalker"
Well, in most aspects, books still usually rule above all, but with all the available modifications that game would provide an awesome experience.
Well, the dangers of the zone in the book are much more overwhelming and incomprehensible, with a bit of Cthulhu-esque atmosphere. And the book was more about life, much deeper than just moving and shooting.

Also Dlaglacz, do you speek russian?
My mother always bitched about how horrible it was in soviet Poland and that everybody had to learn russian etc. etc. (My aunt always laughs about her because she's(my morther) a stupid drama bitch and hardly experienced anything horrible while being there, due to her young age)
Anyways, do you speak russian, or are you not that old? (IMG:[

I am not that old, luckily. I had to have Russian lessons in the primary school, for about 3 years, since that was the law, but then 1989 came on and I didn't have them anymore. And since I never liked Russian much, I never learned.
But I was never able to learn languages I was forced to try to learn. I had 10 years of German, and I don't know a word of it today. On the other hand, languages I liked the sound of, or the way they put concepts together, like English or Japanese, I learned mostly by myself. Years of school lessons gave me no knowledge of English at all, watching Bugs Bunny on satellite tv and playing RPG games did in just a year or two.
Edit: and I'm not a big fan of Polish either, still, I had no choice in first years of my life (IMG:[
