Halo Infinite to feature ray traced lighting? Well, that's a good reason to get RX 6000 series GPU. Overpaying for one is still not.

So-called Halo fans on Reddit are dumb for nitpicking on Halo SPV3's graphics and also comparing it to Halo CE Anniversary. Halo CEA was made possible because of 343i, a studio under MS' million dollar paycheck along with assistance from Saber Interactive whose proprietary engine was used for Halo CEA's modern graphics. Halo SPV3 is a just mod for a PC game that came out back in 2003, whereas Halo CEA is a remaster using a brand new 3D engine. What the modders did - in their own spare time, without pay - to update the graphics on such an ancient piece of software is nothing short of amazing.

I think i might try OpenArena sometime soon. Since I love arena shooters and it seems like a love letter to the Quake games in terms of gameplay.
BTW, introduced a TF2-playing friend to Quake the other week; he kept getting more and more excited as he realized just how similar it was to TF2 (including config files, the console, etc.).

QUOTE(elda88 @ Mar 2 2021, 21:33) Halo Infinite to feature ray traced lighting? Well, that's a good reason for me to laugh at people who upgrade their GPU's. At least you aren't getting nvidia, though, so good job there. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Mar 6 2021, 08:59

QUOTE(elda88 @ Mar 6 2021, 02:22) u r weird No, just a person who doesn't play many modern games. So many older ones worth checking out, and I'd rather let the dust settle on the newish ones and find out which ones aren't going to be ruined by the introduction of gambling elements before they get replaced by some other product. Also my Amiga can do raytracing. Maybe not realtime, but it can. It's nothing that I really get excited about yet (although it is neat and a good thing in the long term if it keeps getting better). But yeah I draw my own pixel art profile pics for a porn site's forum; I guess I am a little weird. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Mar 6 2021, 11:14

Just noticed that in Halo CEA's cutscenes, only the human and alien characters were animated using motion capture. Cortana on the other hand still sticks to the original animations from the classic game.

Due to the bright lighting and vivid colors in Halo CEA, the flashlight feature has become much less useful. The only times it was really needed is when briefly navigating through the cramp maintenance shaft in the ship Pillar of Autumn. In the classic game, the flashlight was indispensable in levels with a lot of dark areas - Truth and Reconciliation, 343 Guilty Spark, The Library and Keyes.

Pokémon generation II (gold/silver/crystal) has one of the most solid sets of chiptunes of any "8-bit" game (I'm not counting FM synth 8-bit systems in this definition).

H2A can seamlessly switch between classic & modern graphics during cutscenes as well, unlike Halo CEA.

I speculate the reason for Halo 2 Anniversary gobbling up 6GB of VRAM is due to modern version running simultaneously with the Vista port of Halo 2, the latter of which was a resource hog back in day.

The Switch Pro looks to be real so I hope it won´t be another Nintendo gimmick upgrade.

H2A did a much a better job preserving the original's lighting. There are some areas are still brighter than what it's supposed to be but it is a solid job nonetheless. However the same sin did repeat from Halo CEA, that is the dimension of environmental assets don't conform tightly to that of the original game. I'm standing in midair as appose to on the edge, my shots obstructed due to invisible walls, non-existent gaps and windows with mismatched size.

The sound effects in H2A's cutscenes reminds me of that in action movies like Michael Bay's Transformers.

Halo Reach veered away from the main trilogy's gameplay with its revamped enemy designs, new music and introduction of armor abilities. Halo 4 went even further. Not only weapons depletes so fast during use (forcing players to frequently scavenge for another weapon - more than usual), their sound FX had been totally revamped. Covenant Grunts were no longer recognizable from their previous iterations. And the Master Chief's movement felt sluggish by default, probably due to the introduction of Sprint function (similar to Crysis).
