QUOTE(loli-hujan86 @ Apr 14 2020, 00:27) I've realized the original Halo cannot use anti-aliasing, even when forced through the graphics control panel.
D3DOverrider.exe There are also custom dll's to replace. This post has been edited by Pillowgirl: Apr 14 2020, 10:56

An Oculus Rift or HTC Vive seems like a neat thing. The price tag is very not neat. Besides needing a big wad of cash, do I need any windows software that isn't wine freindly or special hardware and/or something with a video output?

Doubles. I'm told my laptop is a potato, and I need a desktop that's at least a coco- yam.

MCC or Halo PC version? I know it's working for me on Custom Edition when forced in the Nvidia control panel.

The 2003 PC version. Actually I'm currently playing Halo SPV3, the mod for the original port. It's not easy to notice but when I focused my sight on the guns, vehicles and the environment while moving, I then realized that the edges are actually jagged, not smoothed. My current GPU can only do an average around 40fps on the mod. Not sure yet how it'll fare on Reach, Halo Anniversary and the upcoming Halo 2 Anniversary.

If you're on Nvidia too at least, it works to a degree--the aliasing is reduced for me but not eliminated, so the NV control panel doesn't force it to 16x I guess. I'm only doing this on the base game though (with Refined maps). If you messed with other gfx settings in the control panel you could test whether it's affecting the exe properly? Been modding the game myself lately, next I want to see if there's a fix for the flashlight to increase the distance it illuminates. I heard it went farther on Xbox CE.

Started playing Starcraft 2 maps with mods, it can be messy and buggy, but sometimes it's fun indeed. Too bad I can't play those offline (I think it's possible for those that bought the non-free campaigns, viciousness sure has increased since the era of shareware, with their more obvious limitations on "free" version)

Forcing V-sync via the control panel works. The setting exists in-game but for some reason, it always reset after exiting the game.

Sometimes I think about going back to Gundam Battle Operation 2 but I quickly remember "they're going to fire rockets at your legs then rape you with beam sabers".

Do you use Chimera or one of the other addon programs? Chimera doesn't have an AA toggle in the .ini, but maybe enabling Video mode configuration in the .ini (removing the ; in front of "enabled=1" in my case, and setting the config options below to match your prefs) would allow the NV control panel settings to stick. Also don't forget to try Run as Admin. There's also this [ opencarnage.net] InjectSMAA. It seems like AA isn't supposed to work at all according to that, starting to doubt myself. I'll need to double check. This post has been edited by EvaOtaku07: Apr 20 2020, 04:58

I guess InjectSMAA and D3DOverrider.exe that Pillowgirl suggested accomplish the same thing, but this is post-processing and D3DO is internal?

How do those weapons fit the in game balance? Broken or just for bragging rights?

It's a specialist weapon like the Needler (in the context of Halo Combat Evolved) but even more niche. Each shot has a "magnet" effect, gradually pulling enemies towards you all while weakening them. Good against a lone Jackal or a low-ranking Elite behind cover but hazardous in close quarters with a mixed group of Covenants. However its Overcharge is useful. Instead of wiping out energy shields, it explodes like a gravity grenade upon impact. So, good for taking out a small packed group of enemies from a certain distance. In the level Truth and Reconciliation, it's not that useful really, due to its tight corridors and enemy pouring from everywhere in larger areas like the hangar bay. So it is safe to say the weapon doesn't affect much the gameplay. Doing it for bragging right is correct though. The weapon doesn't just spawn from a dead Zealot. You need to weaken it severely to prompt the Elite to switch weapon from plasma sword to the specialized plasma pistol. That's why I said it was a coincidence. I was actually trying to kill a charging Zealot only to run out of ammo by the time its health is low enough. So I went like "hell yeah! I got the Void's Tear!" but then discard it after the subsequent battle.

Poor Chief with no back pocket for keeping cool guns.
Sounds fun though, I think I will play that mod eventually.

Worth playing at least once. Aside from the new graphics, new areas have been added to Pillar of Autumn, Halo and Assault on the Control Room. Silent Cartographer Evolved is a revamped version of the original map. Enemies like the Jackals and Hunters has more varieties. There are more pilot-able vehicles this time like the Specter, Mongoose, Wraith as well as Warthogs equipped with rocket launchers and rail gun. And the new weapons are what the developers call "lore/canon-friendly" additions: Particle Carbine - a plasma counterpart to the original Covenant Carbine, Shredder - Brute version of the Needler, the UNSC machine gun - good for disposing Floods when the shotgun and AR can't cut it, and the Focus Rifle - the Covenant sniping weapon that was cut from the original game made its return through the mod. Etc. However, the mod also not without problems, the main being the difficultly level. The levels Truth and Reconciliation and Assault on the Control Room are stupidly difficult, even on Normal difficultly. High-ranking Elites' firing rate are so fast, even a single Elite Major - either with a Needler or Plasma Rifle - can wipe out your shields in seconds. They are also so badass, their melee attack can actually kill you in one blow. The Jackal Majors deal a lot more damage with their Red Plasma Pistols and both species, the Elites and Jackals, have Marksmen in their ranks, wielding either the Particle Carbine or Focus Rifle. Grunts are now capable of using the Plasma Pistol's Overcharge ability and their grenade throw - more often than not - can be quite accurate. Now mix different combinations of these enemies along with the Brutes, you'll get a frustrating experience fighting them in small rooms and tight corridors. The last level, The Maw, is not as fun as the Pillar of Autumn, becoming what is described as "Library 2.0" in which dispatching waves and waves of Floods is even more chore than The Library to the point of depleting all of your weapons' ammo long before getting to the Engine Room. Edit: Forgot to mention the Elite Honor Guards are impervious against human weapons (except explosives e.g grenades & rocket lauchers). Using the sniper rifle against them in Assault on the Control Room has no effect. Pros: Lots of added content, improved graphics. Cons: Difficulty on certain levels are horribly unbalanced. I did expect that, from what reviews of the mod have told me. It'd be up to whether there's a compelling enough atmosphere, and eye candy, to get me through the bad parts.
