^ When I watched the Square Enix announce FF7 PS4 like it was what everybody wanted I couldn't help but wonder. Is Square really that stupid or were they just trolling? Seriously, it was the dumbest thing I've ever seen them do and yet it was the perfect troll. Like Goatse getting up on stage and announcing a new translation.

I think Square Enix are stupid. i don't think they are trolling.
When I see them do something stupid, I say Square is getting dumber and dumber.

Because it's a lose-lose situation for them, I don't know why people ever expected a remake to begin with.
Making a game of the same length and breadth as Final Fantasy VII but with modern graphics (think Final Fantasy XII and later) is nothing but an insane task that would take years upon years to complete, with no real guarantee of payoff. So, you have to compromise:
- Should they do a remake without state-of-the-art graphics, something along the lines of Ni no Kuni? Nope, people are gonna bitch to no end about it, and "Final Fantasy" has become a synonym for "muh pretty graphics" lately, so nope again.
- Should they cut stuff and make the game shorter? Good luck with the ensuing shitstorm.
Either way, they lose.
And let's be honest for a moment, do you really want Square Enix to make a remake? They're the same shitty company that produced Final Fantasy 12, 13, 13-2 and Lightning Returns.

Has anyone actually replayed Final Fantasy VII within the last three years? There's a lot of unnecessary shit you can cut out or make better. It's, at best, a thirty hour game.

Ironically Yoshinori Kitase also took part in these latest godawful games as the producer, if penix allowed him to be the director again and followed the same perspective as the original FFVII (like capcom did with resident evil 1) then that would be a big yes from me.

I bought recently I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream and Harvester, I beat I have No Mouth and I Must Scream, so I just have to play Harvester now.

And let's be honest for a moment, do you really want Square Enix to make a remake? They're the same shitty company that produced Final Fantasy 12, 13, 13-2 and Lightning Returns.

Well, that same shitty company also made Final Fantasy Type-0 and Crisis Core so there is some hope. They could remake FF7 as an action RPG with a reimagined story. One where Aeris lives! I just want to play FF7 again, but not as the same old PS1 game, because it's too nostalgic.
