So I'm giving a shot at Assassin's Creed (the first one). And I really gotta say: it sucks. It's an incredibly misleading game. It starts off quite well and it draws you in, but then after like an hour, it's like "okay, you've had your fun, now it's time to do the same repetitive and easy things over and over and over again." If it turns out that the slowly unfolding plot sucks too, I'm gonna be mad. Actually, you know what, I may as well just read the rest of the story online or something.

I would say don't bother finishing the game at all. Like plot wise nothing happens at all between the first and last chapter and gameplay wise it will remain repetitive and boring for the rest of the game with the exception of the last chapter.
Instead you should go give AC2 a chance (and the rest of the 2 / Ezio trilogy if possible). You will get a quick summary at the beginning of AC2 about what happened previously so you won't need to go look it up.

I never understood the appeal of the Assassin's Creed series or why it's so popular.
In all fairness. This is something that can be said about every popular thing out there if you have zero interest for it.
I can't wait for Destiny to come out so I can not play it. I know it's just another overhyped (first person!) shooting game.

AC1 is by far the worst in the series. In fact it's so bad you should play it first just to see how far the series has come. AC2 was a huge leap from AC1 and the best way appreciate it is to have played AC1. That said, the AC series is good but I always had the problem of losing interests in the games halfway through them.
Well, alright, maybe I'll give AC2 a shot sometime then. At least I'm glad I bought AC1 at this super-discount on GOG some time ago. So I didn't really waste money on it, I guess.
It's not that I don't enjoy action games but rather it seems all the hype surrounding the series comes from marketing and high production values.
Is there anything wrong with marketing and... high production values (what does that mean)? Is it so terrible that anybody, regardless of profession, wants their product/service to sell?

It's not that marketing is bad, but all the money placed into could go into improving and polishing the game. Overhyping a game also raises the sales expectations of the publishers which is what happened to the "failure" that was the new Tomb Raider.
When I said high production values I meant it over good game design, which is something that comes with talent, rather than work effort from a big studio of programmers doing monkey code.

Oh man, the Madden commercial will piss you off so much then. It is probably no exaggeration that they spent more money on it than the game. Though to be fair, they release one of those games each year and wouldn't have the time needed to put that money to any use making the game better.
Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox Exclusivity Announcement Didn't Mean to Cause Confusion, Dev Says [www.gamespot.com] article.
Despite that it's "merely a timed exclusive" Microsoft and its exclusivity crap are messing too much with Sony and I hope someone nukes the xbox headquarters.
According to the lawsuit, Capcom filed a patent back in 2002 that involvesa function that lets you acquire new content by combining an existing game with another piece of software.
While the description of the patent’s full contents remains unclear, it appears that Capcom are effectively referring to the idea of expansion packs, and importing content into the new version of a game. Since the patent was filed back in 2002, it likely covers the concept of using expansion discs in conjunction with the original disc of a game, in order to unlock content, as was the case with Samurai Warriors : Xtreme Legends.
Additionally, another patent mentioned in the report is a controller-vibrating notification feature when enemy characters are nearby. Capcom claims that the patent infringement “has greatly contributed to the sales” of Koei Tecmo’s titles.
It is said that Koei Tecmo has seen a profit of about 9.73 billion yen in total sales, and Capcom are looking to acquire around 5 - 10% in license fees. They’re also demanding the suspension of sales on several Tecmo Koei titles as well.
New Mario Kart 8 update is now live includes the Mercedes benz cars and now allows you to pre-order the two upcoming DLC packs $12/€12/£7 for both packs or $8 for one pack.

They're messing too much with Sony? Nuking their headquarters? Someone is a bit too personally attached to boxes of plastic.
