QUOTE(Robbie Pie @ May 9 2012, 00:24) Yes, most notably in Bethesda games like TES 4 & 5 and FO 3 and New Vegas. I've spent many hours redecorating buildings I cleared in FO with guns and armor I'd never use, as well as my houses in TES with swords, gems, armor and other miscellaneous shit..
Oh god, I spent so many hours in the Construction Kit for Oblivion making my player home so I could display all my shit. Lines of mannequins for armor and hundreds of display cases for weapons and artifacts.

I played all those on my Ecksbawks, so it was a bit more tedious and had to make due with what I had without mods.

I found it fun. Then again, I am very easily amused.

I only played through Oblivion for the story, so I didn't get into collecting tons of sets, but I did spend a couple hundred hours on Morrowind and I had the same hoarding compulsive behavior. After I killed Vivec I took over his temple and made it my display case for the rare and unique weapons and armors.
Then I once found myself carrying thousands of arrows that were weighing me down, when I had no bow or skill to use it. I also hoarded brooms once. True story.

- Most X-box games come with at least a few achievements that are low-hanging fruit (easy to obtain just by putting the disc in).
- DLC for games sometimes come with more unlockable achievements. These are frequently low-hanging as well (ex. beat the bonus level, get the achievement).
- People who buy a lot of games and DLC have more low-hanging gamerscore points available to them.
- People who don't buy many games have to work much harder to achieve a score that other people just buy their way to.
- People who buy more games have a much easier time attaining a high gamerscore than people who buy less games.
- People who are rich or at least well-off have more money to spend on games, and people who are not have less.
- Rich people have a distinct advantage, just like in real life.
Conclusion: Your X-box gamerscore is an accurate measure of your likelihood to succeed in life. This post has been edited by FourThirteen: May 9 2012, 07:08

Why did I have a dream about me playing a Deus Ex: Human Revolution (non-existent) DLC? I only played the game's first two levels. And that was months ago. If the DLC ever exists where Adam Jenson was hired by a sexy and seductive Japanese red head police officer to investigate a series of murders in Japan, playing the game again might be worth it. How sexy, you may ask? Think Cammy's outfit from Street Fighter, with a tight body-fitting Kevlar vest. Yeah, that's her "official uniform". (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

Conclusion: Your X-box gamerscore is an accurate measure of your likelihood to succeed in life. That's not all necessarily true. I have little more than a dozen PS3 games and I have almost 500 trophies. If you play a few good games to the fullest extent you can still get a huge score without needing to buy tons of games. This stands even more for cappy because he has just about every single game on his PS3 account platinumed, but he doesn't have a huge library in and of itself. In fact I have quite a few real life friends who have dozens and dozens if not close to a hundred games for the PS3 but very few trophies, because they're the type that have the money to buy a fuck ton of games and don't really play them for long. In fact, now that I think about it, I'm going to completely disagree with you and say the opposite. And since we're on the subject, I wish MGS4 would get an update for trophy support. But you can't show it to anyone so I guess it just seems as silly as downloadable horse armor. QUOTE(Robbie Pie @ May 8 2012, 23:52) Lewl. Brainstorm the rainstorm.
It was brainstorm in the rainstorm. But I am glad you approved :3

Never did care for Morrowind. Good story, but it felt so slow and battling was clunky in comparison to it's predecessors. Plus, weight limits to containers is bullshit. QUOTE(FourThirteen @ May 9 2012, 01:07) X-box

Yeah it was clunky. It would take like 10 minutes of swinging any weapon at a rat to finally kill it at level 1, if it didn't kill you before. I remember downloading a mod that allowed for combos according to your skill level in that weapon type which fixed a lot of the repetitive issues in combat, but it was still prone to errors. And the magic system there sucked balls unless you modded the game.

RPGs I horde items and then never use them if given the chance to. Which is how I got that Vesperia title Item Hater without actually trying to. Because I refused my team anything unless they needed it to win, and we didn't.
Given the chance I'll buy 99 of anything or the limit cap for it just to have that many of an item. 99 potions, 99 ethers, 99 useless sword, 99 wooden staff, 99 Penultimate weapon, it's all gravy to me. Sinking money into things because I like having lots of it even if I don't necessarily need it. Where as I feel the exact opposite way in RL where I hate having more of things than I actually need. Video games don't have household constraints and cleanliness standards.

The combat and unbalanced encounters ultimately had me deinstall my ultra-modded-out Morrowind. This, and lack of time. Also I rember that I spent the most bottlecaps on decorating my FO3 house. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) I even searched for particular items to put in certain places....

Man, aside from some potions and rare materials, who the hell buys stuff in RPGs anymore? Most of what you need these days can be found or dropped in battle.

I think the only RPG in the last decade where I've regularly purchased from vendors was The Witcher II.

Finished Mechcommander 2 and the story really does a good job of showing that you are a mercenary. You're hired by Col. Renard of house Steiner to take care a bandit problem. The bandits are backed by house Liao and Renard send you into their territory breaking the peace.
Second part starts with you being hired by the Liao since you did such a good job killing their troops. You do a bunch of covert ops for them including trying to start fighting between house Steiner and house Davion. However the Liao leader's son Cpt. Cho is a screw up on the battlefield leading Liao to a truce with Steiner. Renard's price: the mercenaries' (your) heads. So much for that contract, especially as you kill Cho. Relationships with your boss tend to end when they're trying to kill you and you kill their son.
Third part you help the Davion backed citizens liberate the planet. In the process you destroy the Liao palace killing your second part boss. The final mission sees you kill Renard aka the guy who brought you to the planet in the first place.
Yes you a e a true mercenary, you work for two houses and with a third and fight against all three through the course of the game.

I didn't say I bought Items, I usually just had to stride through the wasteland for at most two minutes to find them, but that Noira Brown had those special decor styles, remember?

As far as I'm concerned, all you've done is provide examples to the contrary. There are poor people who are able to succeed because they are driven, and there are rich people who fail because they're losers. That doesn't change where the advantage lies. If a person with more money wants a higher gamerscore, they can more easily acquire it. That is the point. QUOTE(Robbie Pie @ May 9 2012, 01:27) You've got to be the only person I know who puts a hyphen in Xbox.
I've never had one before this year, so I guess I'm not comfortable with the common parlance yet. I'm sure gamerscore is supposed to be capitalized or something, too. This post has been edited by FourThirteen: May 9 2012, 09:12

In all MMOs, I'm a compulsive hoarder. You may never know when you're going to need those useless items for a sidequest.
