QUOTE(hitokiri84 @ Aug 20 2011, 20:40) Soooo, complaining about a walking tank not being good with magic? My legendary staff doesn't feel very legendary on BT/IWBTH with the double mage nerf. Needs to be fixed already.
And I mean FIXED, not "fixed" by making it even worse when ratings are removed/replaced.
You should be happy that it made your staff somewhat valuable again. Prior to this, it wasn't that much better than a decked out EDB staff.

Looking at the damage formula, I don't think so. I always felt high MDM staffs were more powerful than the specialty EDB staffs, despite having a higher total damage percentage. That's because they are better if you're using EDB phase. You also seem to be forgetting that one of the nerfs was halved elemental proficiency damage.

Prior to this patch EDB was counted twice in the equation so if you have a staff with 45 EDB and 35 MDM it's effectively 35 MDM and 90 EDB. Even if you're using full EDB phase the specialized staff would still be better than any destruction staff, except maybe your legendary. Now it's a different story. I don't recall proficiencies being halved. When was this?

Sushi is right. Before this patch my EDB Stick did more damage then my MDM Stick. Now it is the opposite.

Wrong. EDB wasn't counted twice, elemental proficiency was. Elemental ratings were removed, which accounted for the loss of EDB damage, and the phase EDB range was increased to compensate for it some. It was a tweak implemented by Tenboro to "fix" an unaccountable damage factor at the time, which was the double proficiency. The double proficiency bug was fixed later, hence the double nerf, but it was never announced officially in a release, so you might not know about it unless you happened across the post Tenboro mentioned it in. Not really. My moderately high destruction staff was slightly worse than an almost maxed EDB staff. You didn't think it was strange that tenboro would allow such easy access to "great" weapons? The damage formula shows the mitigation effects make EDB staffs fairly bad in comparison to MDM when stacking single damage types. The effect is greater now with the reduction of damage from EDB and proficiency, and it will become even more so if Tenboro boosts staff MDM when magic rating is removed, which is one of the possibilities he mentioned.

Nope. I have a (probably) max MDM and an Max EDB stick. Even with full EDB Phase the EDB stick did a bit more damage. Im looking forward to the chance since I already have enough High Grade Materials and Bindings to pimp my Stick (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

That's quite a memory lapse you're having there. Elemental proficiency was never counted twice, it was EDB. If you had reasoned it a little you would have reached the conclusion that this is indeed the case. Ratings were removed two patches ago so it wasn't a factor in the damage reduction from the latest patch. If what you say is indeed true that elemental proficiencies were counted twice, then the people wearing full EDB phase wouldn't have noticed any major reduction in damage, it would only have affected the players wearing elementalist gear. Halving our natural elemental proficiency and what little proficiency from our staff shouldn't have caused such a major reduction in damage. This should have been the biggest clue for you.

Again, you have discounted the elemental proficiency inherent in every staff. I read "elemental bonus" being added to spell damage bonus as literally damage from proficiency being added to bonus damage (EDB and MDM.) The drop in damage when he announced this was not that significant. If it were a 50% decrease to EDB that shortly after the removal of elemental ratings, as you're suggesting, I'm quite confident you would have shit your pants along with anyone else that uses EDB gear.
At any rate, it's too hard to decipher the exact meaning of every variable in that code without having written it or having the entire thing to review. Tenboro could make a list, but I'd rather he spend that time making the next release.

I have to use a spreadsheet to figure out whether something is an upgrade or not. And even then it doesn't take into account the effect of INT & WIS. Sneaky, sneaky items X(

Nothing was discounted. QUOTE(sushi0 @ Aug 21 2011, 02:19) Halving our natural elemental proficiency and what little proficiency from our staff shouldn't have caused such a major reduction in damage.

People did shit their pants, hence all the complaining on the forums. Even if you didn't understand all his code, you could just look at the part he mentioned that was counted twice, i.e. $HVEquip['spell_ebonus'][$something]. This part has a "/ 100" mod which should tell you it's affecting EDB. If it had been elemental proficiencies like you said, the mod would have been "/ 200."

I can´t have the same weapons in two sets of equipment. Not a huge problem but it would be practical to swap set just to change my armor to light, without having to re-equip my weps.

We're never ever going to get a second quickbar, are we?
Dude asks if we can have a separate quickbar for each set of equipment and he gets it but I've been asking for a permanent second bar below the first one because there are more spells I'd like to use but it's never going to happen, is it? Manually launching spells is time consuming so I just use whatever spells I can fit in the existing bar and say oh, fuck it to the rest of them.

If you could hold down CTRL or something to cast the single-target version of an AOE spell that'd save some slots.
Depreciating and Supporting spells I use rarely so I don't mind going into the menu for those.
Still leaves a lot of spells though.

5 2 Your spell misses its mark. 5 1 You cast Magic Missile. 4 2 Your spell misses its mark. 4 1 You cast Magic Missile. 3 2 Your spell misses its mark. 3 1 You cast Magic Missile. 2 2 Your spell misses its mark. 2 1 You cast Magic Missile. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) this is getting ridiculous

I assume there are a ton of PL 0 monsters that are just name holders or something. Will there ever be a way to root them out or something so there are more names available?
I feel it's kind of silly too if someone just went inactive for a year, doing nothing to their monster except stopping another user from having that name.

I had suggested that monsters have a generic name and the custom name be unlocked at plvl 50 or so. I still stand by that suggestion. ie you create an Avion, and it is then [Player Name]'s Avion until you level it sufficiently to name it.

Talking about monsters... Chrystals are generated too slowly. I don't have time to stalk the bazaar all day. I have the credits, give me the chrystals.

How about just giving it's name as avion? There's no point to distinguish among avions owned by different players IF they have low PL, right?
