QUOTE(Lolicon_of_Sin @ Dec 11 2011, 17:40) enjoyable for any random dumbass I envy them that. Imagine, all these TV channels, if I was a person for whom they all were fun at all times. Why did I let myself know all these gags so well they stopped to entertain me already...

Who watches TV shows live anymore? There's this wonderful invention called a DVR. Pray to the TiVo god.

It's a new service that allows you to make playlists and basically act the DJ for a radio station.
Kind of like Pandora, but not nearly as randomized.

QUOTE(Dlaglacz @ Dec 11 2011, 10:35) I haven't watched any for some 11 years now. I download these, after I select them based on Internet reviews. No need for TV for that.
So, you watch TV shows, but you don't watch TV. Solid logic, there. Seriously, your fancy Internet-box is just a TV that happens to do a lot of other stuff. QUOTE(Lolicon_of_Sin @ Dec 11 2011, 11:40) Actually I'm a lot like Dlaglacz... internet > tv, because you can select what you wanna watch. If you watch tv, you gotta be lucky or time it right. And also, since most tv channels are meant to be enjoyable for any random dumbass, there's usually not much interesting to see either. If you download stuff from the internet you can choose exactly what suits your interest and watch it whenever the hell you feel like. (plus there are no annoying ad breaks (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)) See below: QUOTE(derpymal @ Dec 11 2011, 14:43) Who watches TV shows live anymore? There's this wonderful invention called a DVR. Pray to the TiVo god.
It's the future of TV. You can select shows you like and then watch them at your leisure. The more widespread they get, the less important live TV becomes. Plus, there's this whole On Demand thing, which I think is going to catch on a lot more soon. I only ever watch live TV because we don't have whole-house DVR, or I genuinely have nothing better to do at the time (that happens a lot). Also, the Internet is full of advertising. A lot of sites force you to look at an ad before you can watch videos, and text content is usually wrapped in banner and sidebar ads, if not in-line ads you have to scroll past. To counter the example, premium TV stations like HBO don't interrupt their shows with ads; that stuff only airs between programs. Granted, there isn't much good stuff to watch on HBO anyway. We might just cancel it here to save money. This post has been edited by FourThirteen: Dec 12 2011, 08:26

Seriously, your fancy Internet-box is just a TV that happens to do a lot of other stuff. Right... just in case you were serious, the fact that these are called TV shows doesn't mean the TV is necessary for them to exist. It's just a name. I think I turned some of them on years ago, I don't remember how, but I'm not seeing any ads with my shows, wherever I watch them. Usually streamed from my NAS. That might explain it (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yes, indeed. How exactly do you think you're countering his point? QUOTE(FourThirteen @ Dec 12 2011, 09:24) Also, the Internet is full of advertising.
Wait, it is? Oh dear, I completely forgot about that... y'see, I have this [ addons.mozilla.org] handy addon installed on my browser for a very long time now... This post has been edited by Lolicon_of_Sin: Dec 12 2011, 21:28

Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's gone away. How exactly do you think you're countering his point?

That's fair. But to make a weak counterpoint after pointing out someone else's weak counterpoint is kind of ridiculous.

I'm not making a weak counterpoint; all I do is give yet another motivation why I think computer > tv. You can't install ad blockers on your tv.

It's called the power button and do something else if it bothers you so much.
