Does it make the writing or acting better?

No, it just makes everything prettier. A LOT prettier. Especially special effects like explosions and whathaveyou.

I don't watch those kinds of films, I guess.
Which is really why I'm not a movie person.

My favorite movies are all old and don't really benefit from a bluray upgrade, but the newer stuff like the Gundam 00 and Gundam Unicorn blurays are a hundred times better than their standard definition counterparts. Then my documentaries like Planet Earth and Life are amazing on bluray. I guess if you're watching something like The Big Lebowski its not really going to matter if its bluray or not, but if there are movies that are new and made with HD in mind, those will be noticeably better. Either way, at this point it doesn't really matter much in price difference as you can get a brand new movie in bluray for less than 20 bucks and there are bluray bargain bins at walmart for 5 or 10 bucks.
I myself wasn't into bluray but I had a PS3 so I decided to start buying stuff in bluray. I remember the very first bluray I ever bought was Advent Children. I was thoroughly impressed with the upgrade.

It all depends on who you are, really. I didn't much care for it.

One of my seniors nicknamed me Donny (fortunately no one else started calling me that) and he would shout at me at random when I started talking 'SHUT THE FUCK UP DONNY!' I asked around about what he was talking about and everyone looked at me like 'you haven't seen the movie?!'
And I still haven't seen it. I do plan on doing so sometime in the future. Then again, I said that five years ago when I first heard about it...

I started Big Lebowski, saw it was awful, and stopped. None of the people in my circle of acquaintances have ever liked that movie.

So Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson have both gone the way of the fatty I take it. The rest of the world already thinks every single American is obese so it doesn't exactly help the image when our rich, attractive* celebrities get chunky.
*Attractive as a general opinion, not to each individual.

God forbid humans look like humans, rather than akin to beanpoles.

I would comment on fat people, but you all know my opinion on that matter by now. No need to beat a dead horse.

Honestly, if I can see any part of any of your ribs, eat a goddamn sandwich. That is not attractive or healthy.

I never said they couldn't, it's just that it's a rather dramatic change in those two. I don't keep up with either one of them but I can still see how much of a change there's been.
