There's only one character I have truly come to hate, and that would be Ohgi from Code Geass. He was just as bad as Lelouch, and he actually got away with it scot free. He deserved the same treatment Lelouch got, but in the end, he was promoted to Prime Minister of Japan.

I'm willing to bet that was either executive dickery or Taniguchi trolling the viewers for the hell of it. I mean, I don't think he's a hands-wringing giggleshit who likes to fuck with people, but maybe he wanted to screw around since the show was ending and he could pull shit like that with no executive repercussions.

I think I hate Kira (Light) for even sacrificing his own father and almost his sister and team. But mostly L since he was 1 of my fav characters ever.

Naruto and thereafter Sasuke. If both then hopefully died from the kick in the balls, I might actually start reading that series, it's a bit bad to hate the characters that gets most focus though =/

Nagi Kengamine from DW. He's a calm, kind person who promises to help everyone escape, and then after about three pages talking to a monk that plays the guitar, he goes batshit crazy and kills everyone he sees. Then, he gets killed by the same monk about two panels after he notices he's slightly overreacting.

I couldn't agree more, he's my new most hated male character ever from anime/manga. He's probably on par by now with Lucy from Elfen Lied. But if the two of them fights to the death, I would definitely cheer for Lucy. All she has gotta do is use her Diclonius powers and decapitate Louis to death

None of that shit was his fault. He had the potential to be a good byronic hero, but it all got pissed away because of a mix of lol morosawa/anime/kira yamato. Super Robot Wars Z fixed his character to the point where Shinn's voice-actor (Kenichi Suzumura), calls the Z characterization "the true version", or something like that. So he certainly was never a bad character at his core, but there were several factors that fucked him over big time.

I'm gonna (loosely) quote someone else from my Gundam thread: Gundam is all about character development, and Shinn never grew up or developed in any way.

He is not a bad guy at heart of course, he is the protagonist for a reason after all, but his incessant whining and utter disrespect for EVERYONE (including his friends) and unwillingness to look at other people's point of view made him a horrible character.

I haven't watched that many animated series, so I'll have to go with Shinji Matō from the animated version of Fate/stay night.
