Moved.
QUOTE(buktore @ Feb 24 2011, 00:50) *

That's why I have no plan to get it (the Eth rapier) even if I have the ability to get it for free, that included yours in the event that you decide to give it away. I had one already...

I love the spirit of this thread, that's why I said this. You can do what you want.

So there's a normative moral impediment in claiming an upgrade?

Edit:
It's a serious and interesting question for me: whether someone who has nothing has an easier time claiming something for free than someone who has something (whether it's to claim needed bread or better bread.
There's also the question of what others do to enforce such rules, if they exist.

I came into this to look for a debate, but... uh... that is a little sad. I don't understand what anyone here it talking about because it looks like it's a snippet of a preexisting conversation.

I believe that if your going to be raised and operate in almost any given social group certain concepts are likely to become ingrained in most people - one of the most common is some form of "Fairness" doctrine.

We don't like to feel cheated so we act in what we think is a fair manner in the hope that this encourages others to act in the same way. The fact that this all started over an item that isn't more than a thought show how strong this behavior can be.

Of course there are those that believe that if they want something, can take it and get away, then it's rightfuly theirs - that is why there has always been Enforcers and punishment, and most likely always will be.

There seems to be some etnical or social groups that have embedded in their D.N.A. , or even in their collective conscience, if such a thing exist, the notion and inclination to Fair Play, wich is in thuth an anomaly in the natural order, while most others have a more natural tendency to the Right of Might, and Survival of the Fittest. The funny thing is that the anomaly is what has allowed the human race as a collective to thrive thus far.

Yes,humans natural tendencies are to be selface and dangerouse to each other.

But as humans we hve the capability to make a choice that animals can't.

We can chose to rise above what's "natural" and instead do what will benifit the greater good.

That is the real thing that places us above other creatures, everything else is window dressing.

That´s very true, and that´s what I mean when I say that precious anomaly is what has allowed this era of relative peace, improved quality of living and technological advances. But sadly, that way of being above the rest of animals in nature only apply to a very small percentage of humanity. Very few can look up from the gutter and watch the stars.

As one of the great quotes in your signature says:

"Man can only be as civilized as the age he lives in. - Thomas Aquinas"

But not only is the age, but the place as well. In too many places over the world, life for the masses is cruel and unfair, and the struggle for the day to day survival leaves very little room for enlightment.

And by the way, I agree with the quote about the cats too. That´s why I have many cats and not many friends.
