Generally the quest-related stuff can be fixed with judicious use of the console; set the quest status to the proper step in the quest, resurrect/teleport inaccessible NPCs, etc. If the dialog doesn't work, you can skip the step.
I'm pissed, though, at the savegame corruption. After shifting around equipment on my followers, including giving Boone an extremely expensive full condition sniper rifle and suit of armor, the savegame reloaded with default equipment on the followers. Which was fixed by more console, but it's hard to resist the temptation to cheat...
It all comes down to Bethesda using the outdated, buggy Oblivion engine, and not redesigning it sufficiently for what's a completely different game. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent game, but it would have been much better served by waiting an additional year (or more) to launch. They could even have jacked up the price. If I remember correctly, Metro 2033 and Singularity both launched at $50-60, and they were not nearly as deep or enjoyable as New Vegas.

OP: Try entering from a different gate? Or failing that, teleport by console into New Vegas. It might fix it.
