QUOTE(Tenboro @ Apr 14 2011, 14:39) You'd almost think he was butthurt about something.
And you'd be wrong. I'm not playing the HV more than once in a blue moon nor was I for awhile before the Monster lab was created, so I have no stake in the matter. I'm just saying: You fucked up. If you were intending it to be cool feature, you utterly utterly failed. If, however, you were intending to create a system full of retarded names and monsters designed to be as annoying as possible, then you hit a home run.

I'm not sure what this means. That I'm complaining about it because he does?

QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 15 2011, 04:45) I'm just saying
So what you're saying is that you were not loudly butthurt in private about not being made a mod of the HV forums? You seem to think that anyone cares what you think, but believe me, nothing could be further from the truth. As it is, you've never come across as anything but a whiny brat with sad ambitions of living out his power fantasies on a forum dedicated to cartoon titties. Even though it's still an unfinished experimental system, people obviously care about building up their monsters, otherwise they wouldn't be paying 100C for each crystal. Judging from the poll I'm guessing you put up in order to shut me up, my assessment seems accurate. In other words, go nibble on a penis.

You seem to think that anyone cares what you think, but believe me, nothing could be further from the truth. As it is, you've never come across as anything but a whiny brat with sad ambitions of living out his power fantasies on a forum dedicated to cartoon titties. Changing the subject and committing ad hominem? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) QUOTE(Tenboro @ Apr 15 2011, 03:04) Even though it's still an unfinished experimental system, people obviously care about building up their monsters, otherwise they wouldn't be paying 100C for each crystal. Logical fail. The fact that the system is unfinished unequivocally prevents you from assigning a motive to these people's action. Suppose: You add a system by which players could profit/benefit from their monsters. Would you not expect that to cause the prices of crystals to increase? The people who had already bought crystals and invested them in their monsters would gain this benefit immediately at a lower cost. QUOTE(Tenboro @ Apr 15 2011, 03:04) Judging from the poll I'm guessing you put up in order to shut me up, my assessment seems accurate.
Or maybe I was just interested in seeing what people think. And, really: 1) I wouldn't attempt to use a poll to prove anything because it would be by no means produce an accurate survey of the population. The results would be limited to forum users, and people with strong opinions. That's a double foul. (Incidentally, an exception to the validity of polls on this site would be polls in regards to how to handle expunging. Since a large percentage of expungers are forum users, you can be more confident that your survey is accurate.) 2) If I WAS attempting to prove a point, I'd have written the poll and the answers in such a way as to create a bias in favor of the view I supported. Does it look like I did that? 3) You don't bow to complaints about changes to the HV system. Admittedly, the only non-nerf I can think of that caused enough backlash was after the change to the gems, and even then, despite a split vote, you didn't change it back. If you were going to scrap the system (I actually thought you would when it was obvious it was going to be a naming shit show), you would almost assuredly have done it before 5.1. (I'm assuming you wouldn't remove something you had used your free time to add functionality to based on old complaints) QUOTE(Tenboro @ Apr 15 2011, 03:04) In other words, go nibble on a penis.
How very mature of you.

QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 15 2011, 13:38) Changing the subject and committing ad hominem? Just pointing out that your shift towards a whiny attitude as of late is likely related to being butthurt, is all. QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 15 2011, 13:38) 1) I wouldn't attempt to use a poll to prove anything because it would be by no means produce an accurate survey of the population. The results would be limited to forum users, and people with strong opinions. That's a double foul. So only people who tend to care about HV for whatever reason would be likely to respond. This would invalidate whatever answers are given, why? QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 15 2011, 13:38) 2) If I WAS attempting to prove a point, I'd have written the poll and the answers in such a way as to create a bias in favor of the view I supported. Does it look like I did that? The fact that you made it six minutes after answering to the post where I pointed out the butthurtivity in your initial post is what makes it clear you were trying to make a point. QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 15 2011, 13:38) 3) You don't bow to complaints about changes to the HV system. Admittedly, the only non-nerf I can think of that caused enough backlash was after the change to the gems, and even then, despite a split vote, you didn't change it back. And why the hell should I "bow to complaints" from anyone? Seriously, if you can't see the huge impact feedback has in what is actually added and done to the system, then fuck you. For a side project to a hobby project, some people sure are expecting a lot.

It has the impact of "go suck a dick" but elegance by using "nibble". With one, you get the image of someone voraciously gobbling on pole. With the other, you get an image of gently nibbling the shaft, maybe with a pinky in the air. Wait, everybody gets images when they hear these things right? RIGHT!?

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Apr 15 2011, 09:04) So only people who tend to care about HV for whatever reason would be likely to respond. This would invalidate whatever answers are given, why?
Not everyone has the same stake in the monster lab system as others. QUOTE(Tenboro @ Apr 15 2011, 09:04) The fact that you made it six minutes after answering to the post where I pointed out the butthurtivity in your initial post is what makes it clear you were trying to make a point.
Despite your utter failing at a declaration of what is clear or obvious, you are willing to get back on the horse and try again. That I made the poll within short temporal proximity does not inherently assign any motives to the act. I started it within 6 minutes because I happened to be thinking about it. Do you think I'm just saying that because the results "don't agree with what I'm saying"? I'm not sure what to make of the results. Option #4 is too huge of a wildcard, and I'm not so arrogant as to make assumptions about how they would vote if the answer was no, you will never be able to profit. Answering that would require a second poll or for me to have split that into two different answers. I don't feel like doing the former, and its too late for me to do the latter. QUOTE(Tenboro @ Apr 15 2011, 09:04) And why the hell should I "bow to complaints" from anyone? Seriously, if you can't see the huge impact feedback has in what is actually added and done to the system, then fuck you. For a side project to a hobby project, some people sure are expecting a lot.

QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 15 2011, 22:12) Not everyone has the same stake in the monster lab system as others. Which is relevant how, exactly? QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 15 2011, 22:12) Despite your utter failing at a declaration of what is clear or obvious, you are willing to get back on the horse and try again. It's obvious because you made a poorly founded comment saying basically that the system is utter fail, then put up a poll about it right afterwards. No reasonable person would conclude otherwise. QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 15 2011, 22:12) That I made the poll within short temporal proximity does not inherently assign any motives to the act. Do you seriously talk like that in real life? Because if so, that would indicate that your head is in close spatial proximity to your anus. QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 15 2011, 22:12) Option #4 is too huge of a wildcard, and I'm not so arrogant as to make assumptions about how they would vote if the answer was no, you will never be able to profit. You are however arrogant enough to proclaim the system a complete failure before it's even half-finished. Way to go. QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 15 2011, 22:12) It is possible to tell you that you fucked up without expecting anything. There is constructive criticism, and there's being a whiny brat. Try to do a bit more of the former and a bit less of the latter.

Ever heard of voluntary response bias? QUOTE(Tenboro @ Apr 15 2011, 13:27) It's obvious because you made a poorly founded comment saying basically that the system is utter fail, then put up a poll about it right afterwards. No reasonable person would conclude otherwise.
A reasonable person might be swayed by the fact that I said otherwise, provided a multi-pronged argument as to why I wouldn't use a poll, and commented as to how I have no reason to disavow the poll. (The latter would definitely require an annoying argument into the fundamental issue of democracy: Majority rule versus minority rights.) QUOTE(Tenboro @ Apr 15 2011, 13:27) You are however arrogant enough to proclaim the system a complete failure before it's even half-finished. Way to go.
The only means by which it is possible to correct the problems I mentioned (naming, and people designing monsters to be as annoying as possible) seems to me to be to remove all free will from the process. If you were going to do that, you wouldn't have even created the system in the first.

QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 16 2011, 03:43) the problems I mentioned .... naming
While I perfectly understand why people would be annoyed by the names, I still believe that they overblown it way out of proportion. It could easily be ignored. And, I mean... people actually read it? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) QUOTE(Boggyb @ Apr 16 2011, 03:43) and people designing monsters to be as annoying as possible
And WTF is wrong with that? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Seriously, this is just dumb...

If by 'as annoying as possible' you mean able to kill something. Yes this is what I do.

Wait, I'm confused. Did the game ever change from a "slap monsters with your mouse button" format? I mean, if it didn't, it seems pretty silly to get upset about monster names and such.

The monsters people could created didn't came with a 'blank' stats and can do whatever you want with it. It was already 'balanced' in a certain way by Tenb, people can only make them a bit stronger. Tend still has total controls over it... Otherwise the Undeads won't going to have -50 fire resists, Mechanoids with -50 lightning resists, or see me go butthurt about there's no element immune for mobs.
