To be honest, random characters for names might make no sense, but I think it is better than some of the other stuff I've been seeing. I'd rather see those than 90 different forms of rap<censored> and giant pen<censored> and lol<censored> por<censored>


Plus, as mentioned, there are members with fairly random names so who knows, it could be based on the member.

i find it funny that people make a big deal about it. There must be +60k monsters now so any one name doesn't bother me much. I never really looking at monster names unless its not dead after a few hits and the few that can be a pain are easy to spot.

If monsters names/type are a problem HV stats can save scans so you can id the monsters but that can be a little slow.

I just kill them and move on.

The only time I really will disagree with a name is when it is misleading for whatever reason. If we had a "mass scan" function that would at least scan for race, then it wouldn't be a big deal, but you get ones like:

"Odin" Elemental
and
"0din" Mechanoid
and
"Odln" Undead

Yes, I specifically used those races since that is literally most of the mobs I see these days. (No offense to the actual Odin in the game, this was just as an example)

Now, that might not seem that misleading, but let us say you scan one. Ok, let us assume you scan Odin. Assuming you don't use HV Stat due to the slowness, next time when you fight "0din", as a mage you'd probably try to pierce it-which won't work since mechanoids are strong against pierce.


You get way too many misleading ones like "Weak against lightning" or "I fear fire" which are actually strong against them. And people have already implied that they don't mind misleading ones as long as not everyone is mislead by them. Except... As a mage, I won't be mislead by physical weaknesses and a melee wouldn't be mislead by magical weaknesses.

In other words, the rules aren't clear enough that there is no doubt in people's minds.

I mean, honestly, at this point there is almost no point in having a name. You almost might as well have them be pure ID#s or just random letters.

Be aware that generalizing this is a very dangerous thing. It implies people should rather shut up and carry on than question what they feel is wrong. Sure, constructive criticism is the best kind of criticism, but no one can be presumed to have all the answers - or even the right ones.

It is not my intention to get *your* monsters banned. Your's were just the first ones i noticed and brought up here.

I merely want to report monster that go against the monster naming guideline and are in my opinion "unfitting" (see thread title). While i do understand that naming +40 monsters has it's difficulties, one should be able to come up *some* own inventions and not just merely take elements already in the game. This game does not offer much in terms of immersion, so having someone just copy+paste names while i (and many others) try to conform to the naming guideline is not what i would call gratifying.

If i have offended you by anything i wrote in my first post i hereby appologize, but as i already mentioned i can - for whatever reason - not edit that post. I have already reported it. It is not my intention to insult anyone by posting here.

Please note that is not my job to come up with names for other user's monsters. I will not waste my time on that.
