against the odds it survived and showed up without issue, they even just left it at door as I always request instead of leaving it at shipping pickup point.
combined with one of my random latenight ebay purchases, an industar 50-2 m42 lens, its a pretty fun time figuring out functionality.
if i configure everything correctly theres still an automagic pentax shutterspeed button on the camera which does an okay job at overall brightness.

(have to work on my focus and overall settings but one day, also this is still straight to JPEG)

Ebay 4090 sellers are getting scammed.

People are buying the cards, then returning it claiming it was DOA. The scam is that they actually remove the 4090 GPU chip itself and reassemble the card.

They are using the 4090 chip and putting them on the 3090 boards so they can load them up to 48gb of vram and sell it as a pirated AI card.

I tried a few of the suggestions, and they’ve definitely improved my experience. It’s interesting how small adjustments can make such a difference. I’ll keep testing and share anything useful I find. Excited to see more updates for [whitescreentest.net] Hacker Simulator.

Asked two questions: 1.) verify Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken's global availability on Netflix this coming September and 2.) find an ad-free alternative to Truecaller app. Despite the positive answer, none of the cited sources explicitly confirmed Ruby Gillman coming to Netflix in September. As for the second question, "Should I Answer?" app was claimed to be available on F-droid for download, making it sounds as if the app is FOSS. It actually isn't.

I've seen this as well, instead of actually getting better at giving the right answer they just become better at convincingly telling you the wrong thing. and then theres people out there that claim to first go to ai for everything these days, its even worse than people taking the headlines of the first 3 google hits at face value

commited the gravest sin of programming in perl, but after talking with some people I think it might be the most portable option out there for quick scripting needs. practically every system has perl, even git pulls it in, if not that autoconf, or even groff. especially if you try to not use any modules (perls? libs? whatever perl calls them)
would be hardpressed to think of anything thats so widely installed, not even bash is such a given

Got a still-working OEM battery for a mid 90's thinkpad the other day. I'm astonished.
It is NiMH rather than lithium ion though, which helps. They made both kinds of packs for this laptop.
The NiMH ones appear not to have any special "smart" circuitry in them beyond a thermistor. The lithium ion ones do.

They can be stored fully empty but its easy to mess them up by under and over charging.

Somehow, I did not notice my favorite calendar and gallery apps haven't seen updates from since end of 2023. Turns out Simple Mobile Tools was sold to ZipoApps. The "Pro" versions (paid app on Google Play; free on F-droid) had been abandoned as a result and instead the free versions that was previously abandoned by the original developer were converted to freemium. Subscription fees goes up to RM460 (US$100 more or less).

Just realized the probable cause of my friend's PC getting a fucked up boot loader was him not turning it on for 2 years and the boot SSD fucked a few bits here and there in the ass.

Starting to read about coreboot and JTAG and hard flash types. Its very interesting but I'm totally green about it. Better wait for System 76 to provide a software bios flash for coreboot instead. This Insyde Bios is some corp crap shit.

just updated my patch set for a new version of firefox since sites were starting to break again in firefox ESR (128).
annoying as ever. and with all the rust they're putting into the codebase the compile time is up to two hours now. Around seven years ago it was 45 minutes on the same hardware.
