QUOTE(EsotericSatire @ Mar 20 2025, 13:17) Your IT dept must be chill. Mine has zero chill, we have to have like five factor authentication. mine blocks an all age anime official site for reason: pornography it's not even a well-known anime bro what. starting then I just do everything personal at office on my mobile data.

Had an RX6800 but it lasted half a year. It kept blowing up my PSU and crashing the os. Not typical of AMD components, but it made me leery of their products again.

Some of the initial revision 1 launch cards like the XFX model had a potential failing component and needed to be RMA'd. Later on a huge percentage of the 6800, 6800XT RMAS (80%) were second hand cards that had been abused by one big crypto miner and then resold 2nd hand when they started showing instability issues.

QUOTE Elon Musk, you reading, save humanity the torture of M$s Windows, bank roll this project please. Hard enough dealing with all the shitty legacy poor performing CAD apps on this platform. The founders of /e Foundation (formerly Eelo) had tried in the past, with a direct letter. Elon Musk doesn't care.

CAD software companies love windows though... especially when you have to renew a perpetual license because you were forced to the new windows and the licensed version you have is not compatible with the new OS.

These fucking tariffs...I wonder if I should start buying the parts for my new PC now before the costs become out of control.

I find myself using Grok surprisingly often, more than any search engine nowadays. It occasionally spews out bullshit but does a decent job at aggregating general points and ideas. I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing how this stuff evolves over the next decade.

I hear colleagues saying similar things, I dont get it. its like talking to a retard thats skimming google for you, it never gets the right answers. reverse image search is 99% correct if you want to find what random franchise or song a fanart is from on x. it doesnt understand trends or holidays either if you try to get what a post is on about which you would when just throwing the entire thing into a search engine. the translation was so bad they went back to google even quick addition to the extend of its worthlessness after opening it up just now to see if its gotten any better: it never shuts the fuck up, it keeps generating an entire blogpost and still doesnt answer the question correctly, I have nothing but irrational hate for this generated text slop This post has been edited by cate_chan: Apr 9 2025, 18:40

QUOTE(cate_chan @ Apr 9 2025, 06:37) generated text slop
Its disturbing how much trust people put in the slop. It can be super useful as a scaffold or a starting point to work off but so many people just generate then full send it... causing a bunch of problems and work down the line. Not sure if this is sexism, or if there is a gendered effect in how people use LLMs and other AI models, also my sample is small but I've been involved in say 12 projects that involved using AI. In six out of seven cases where women were using LLMs they ended at the point where the output looked 'good' and they wanted to appear competent so they sent it onwards causing all sorts of problems. For the instances with guys, the majority were not hiding that they used AI to generate parts of the work. Instead they were selling their competence and mastery using more advanced methods to find where they could integrate the output into their workflow. edit: Some models of the 9070 can be patched with the 9070 XT bios boosting the power limit, and with an undervolt increase performance 30-40%. They haven't worked out if its possible to unlock deactivated cores or anything yet though. Probably not these days as things are probably physically fused off. just last week at work with the yearly internal quality assurance questionaire (same questions since 2020 and you can 1:1 the multiple choice answer from the included powerpoint). some geniuses threw the questions into ai and got everything wrong. even besides the obvious messups where people generate their entire work theres this concensus you 'might as well use ai for it' even when its entirely wrong or useless at the majority of tasks. I doubt its even less effort than doing it properly at this point QUOTE(elda88 @ Apr 10 2025, 13:50) hcaptcha is annoying.
never thought I'd miss the wobbly text ones so much, only some forums and imageboards still have them these days in possibly positive news and tech acquirement blogging: I won an auction on a k mount digital camera, some old pentax. finally a way to collect those thrift store lenses and use them without having to go full effort into film. time will tell how poorly it works out since its just an old aps c sensor so there will be some cropping. I had a coworker that tried that... it was hilarious. If you scored less than 70% you had to do the full test which was an hour vs the short original one which was 10-15 mins.

I've got Olympus OM and K-mount lens adapters here for my DSLR. I use an old Vivitar OM-mount manual focus 28mm lens with my APS-C sensor, and it works great for roughly what I'd use a 50mm lens for on a 35mm sensor/35mm film camera. One bonus is that I don't see the worst of the aberrations since the outside of the picture projected by the lens is cropped off. It takes great photos especially if I shoot raw and then adjust later. Think I've posted this before. Higher resolution linked. QUOTE To safeguard against rising Android malware scams, **** will implement a security update starting 1 July 2025.
If your device has sideloaded apps, risky settings, or malware-detected apps, you’ll need to take action. Without it, you will be blocked from using the **** app from 1 July.
If affected, you’ll see a prompt in the app with steps to secure your device. You can still use the app until 30 June, even after the prompt appears. Enforcement begins 1 July.
This update is part of our ongoing effort to provide a safer banking experience. If this bank is going to block my app access just because I also installed apps from F-droid, I might change bank later on.

I listen to a lot of music and recently youtube has been pushing retarded AI slop into my recommendations. Fucking hell why. No amount of "don't recommend this channel" or dislikes help at all.
