Unfortunately, exploitation is a good business model. :p

I've know Australia has been famous for awful internet for a long time; it's unfortunate that's not changing very quickly.

There was a small period where the government had not gotten involved where we had world leading internet in the cities as two telcos competed. The government intervened saying they did not want an oligopoly and also were worried they would not roll out in the wastelands aka the countryside.

So decades later we have government controlled competition with seemingly lots of competition... and lots of sketchy foreign owners.

Same with our power grid. China is like, if we shut down energy production, we can charge more per unit with our other production, then you have to buy more from China to make up the production... then we repeat the cycle.

lol. US / Europe / Australia have created this retarded market situation where not producing in multiple markets raises the price and profits getting consumers raped in the butt.

TLDR: when there was actual real competition the internet plans were great.

Govt 2024: Oh look people have 30mbps now

Me: We had that in the late 90s before you intervened....

80% of the population would have had high speed broadband 20 years earlier if they did not intervene. Those two networks would cap out at about 400mbps, which is still not obsolete but would have needed replacement fully with fiber probably by 2030-2035.

edit2:

People freaking out because Windows 11 going to be taking screenshots to AI analyze everything you look at lel.

Corporates already have this as part of enterprise management suites but its as bit different on personal computers and especially if its opt out or you can't opt out.

I didn't know they could still be installed? I haven't tried any switch rolling though.

I mainly just use cherry red. I think I switched my arcade to silvers.

maybe they have embedded LED's?

Could also be for more flexibility for keyboard PCB designers.

I have mitsumi switches from the 80s with six pins. Three on each side.

I also stick to air cooling exclusively. Waiting for the new noctua cooler thats been delayed for the past 3 or so years right now.

[noctua.at] https://noctua.at/en/product-roadmap

Should be out soon for the new gen NH-D15 and NHL12S but not until end of Q3 for the next gen 140mm fans.

The direct die heat sinks are kind of interesting, though you have to super careful with mounting pressure. Dropping temps 15% on air cooling makes it pretty competitive with regular watercooling. Though you could get a direct die plate though they are less common.

edit: The offset mounting kit is so jank, works on specific processors that have CCDs or processing units on one side of the CPU. Like some mid range AMD 5000 / 7000 etc.

edit2: The 15oC gains they are talking about are with AMD 7000, direct die with the heat spreader removed and liquid metal thermal paste. So its legit but requires a fair bit of risk, so not really for most people.

edit3: Cloudflare is going aggressive AF converting business plans to custom Enterprise contracts that charge 100x more. Once you pass arbitrary thresholds they try to rape your company.

Windows Recall has already been hacked. So hackers will have access to all of your past activity when compromised.

That day finally came for me, the day when I, with my decades of experience sailing the seas, double clicked an obviously suspicious exe like a retard without going though all the usual hoops. Though, in my defense, I did run a virus check and nothing turned up. Lost all my money in steam wallet (which totaled a whole devastating 5 usd since I only keep small changes there to trade cards), my profile somehow was set to public, credit card somehow was removed from list of payment methods. Reinstalled OS and cancelled my credit card just to be safe.
What I found puzzling is how they managed to get access to my steam without the usual steam email checks, since, hell, steam makes it difficult for me myself to get into my own account.

Steamguard was compromised a year ago, there's probably an alt way to authenticate if they get local permissions somehow.

I think they steal your local keys or something.

I am not sure if this is still a thing, but for ages you had to just "steal" the "ssfn" files straight from the steam directory to get into any account.

helped a friend "fix" their broadcast CRT monitor.

It had a warmup circuit that was never tripping to turn the picture on.
Connecting a multimeter in voltmeter mode between the ground and the two current sensing pins was enough to trip the circuit. So we think the resistance provided across the multimeter leads was enough to do the job.
My friend lives far away and I didn't want to suggest they desolder and replace some tiny surface mount resistors, since they only started soldering a few months ago, so we are going to hook a couple toggle switches to the side of the monitor and solder wires and resistors directly to the legs of the DIP IC to simulate connecting the multimeter to the legs.

They got a really good deal on this RGB monitor so I'm glad we're going to be able to make it work.

blew up my amp I was using for pc yesterday, bit sad. an aiwa av nw30.
I remember bypassing the standbye circuit before because it wasnt holding up, this time I also thought it was that since the standby voltage wasn't there (little board in the top right before main transformer)
tried externally supplying the standby voltage it wanted, got it to power up one last time before it first blew a fuse, after bypassing that also blew the chip on front panel board, voltages getting there but internally shorted on everything.

pretty much not worth fixing when you can get these generic stereo/home cinema amps for 20~50 bux, stil a shame really liked how it sounded. currently using the jvc amp I had in living room till some random denon I ordered rom local auction site shows up.
might hit thriftstores tomorrow to find more spares, if they have any with digital in.

final picture of the state of disrepair after it shorted the chip
Attached Image
all good things come to an end, think I got this thing in 2013 or so when I got sick of trying to fix the interferance and wanted to use optical. cant have paid more than 30 for it then as well from thriftstore

The lesson here might be "don't bypass a blown fuse."

while fair, if its old enough it does work at times, and I did briefly check nothing was fully shorted before.
shouldnt have rushed but I just wanted it back within the evening

My rule is basically "if it's new enough to use IC's, and they aren't still in production, don't do it unless they are very cheap secondhand."
Killed enough playstations that way.

BTW, I'm using a JVC R-S5 amp and it's great. from 1980. Has a couple IC's in it though and I'm not sure off the top of my head if they are in production.

Edit: None are in production.
  • Hitachi HA11225 (FM amplifier/detector)
  • NEC µPC1161C (Amplifier, filter, and more)
  • Hitachi HA1197 (AM tuner)
Thankfully those are the only IC's in the thing, though.

Got annoyed by the facebooks ''follow, suggestions and ads'' so I looked around. Thankfully there is a solution for that. If you have the extension for your browser and some javascript its gg annoyances. Its not as simple as pick the element to block since the adress keeps changing with the same pattern. JS makes short work of that. Good thing people bother making these workarounds or I would not be able to use the internet at all...

very nice looking device, the main usecase I have is also taking optical in so that limits the age I can go back to. though I guess I could throw some optical to rca chinesium infront of it and go older.
really love devices that just have everything behind a button or knob instead of annoying menus

that's what I do, but I went with a PC with a sound blaster audigy 2 ZS and the front panel 5.25" expansion bay accessory. Plug TOSLINK (optical) into the front panel and run sound through the line output. I use it for laserdiscs.
You could also use a newer receiver as your input selection device and then just take the line output from that and feed it into your older amp. I've also done that before.
I play my switch through that amp.
