I wish the prices on HDDs could go down so that I can buy myself some more space for anime...

I feel your pain. I too need more space, unless I could stop myself from going on a downloading spree almost daily.

It's probably cheaper to buy a BD burner at this point.

BDs are like ~$1 for a 25GB Disc and burners like $75, which in the long run is cheaper than HDDs at the moment. You just have the wait time during burns, slower access time, the possibility of coasters, etc.

HDD are just plain simpler, and especially nowadays you're paying for that simplicity.

I used to burn everything to DVDs. The problem is now I've got giant stacks of them. True story.

What the fuck, Mozilla ? Firefox looks like Google Chrome now with that blank tab shit.
Copying features that look interesting to developers seems to be popular.

EDIT : Input "about:config" > Lie > Look for "newtab" then pick one or do both :
- set "browser.newtab.url" to "about:blank" ;
- set "browser.newtabpage.enabled" and "services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.newtabpage.enabled" to "false".

Conventional wisdom is wrong. The Memory Effect only applies to old Nickel Cadmium batteries, not the current Lithium batteries.

I decided to forgo the conversion to new optical media and opted for hard disks. They take up less space and I don't have to kill myself trying to divide shows up between discs. I'm trading off the fear of ONE TINY IMPERFECTION totally ruining an entire disc to OMG HARDWARE FAILURE. And having to copy and reburn discs is dumb; I already did that when I went from CDs to DVDs.

If you really want to keep your data safe, disks are still the way to go. My old cd's from a decade+ ago still work just perfectly fine. Meanwhile my WD external hard drive with everything I ever had of electronic data, broke after a few long years(and I used it cautiously, only using it to store stuff and for transferring stuff to it, otherwise stocked away in a room temperature environment, because the more you use it, the more it spins and the more wear and tear it gets making it prone to break). Some of the info on there are irreplaceable(photos, documents/records/excel spreadsheets, etc), and I still want it back to this day.

The funny thing was before it broke, I was considering buying another external drive to back it up because one external drive is always a inevitable path to losing all your data one day, and I was reading how external drives have a average lifetime of 5-10+ years, with some breaking before and some lasting longer than that period, while disks have a average of 20-50+ years(not sure, I read it a while ago). So probably a safe way to maintain data is having a external and a stack of BD's to back it up, or 2 external hard-drives with one only used to store the data of the other, or you can overdo it and get 2-3 external drives+ BD to back it up as well. It may be overboard, but it just depends how much that data is worth to you and if you want to risk losing it.

Nickad and Lion batteries.

According to CHIP magazine's article, Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) & Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) are affected by the Memory Effect. Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) & Lithium Polymer (LiPo) behaves in exactly in the opposite way.

People need to learn to give specific details and describe symptoms before calling for help with with their PC problems. More often than not, the problem described is too general to be diagnosed.

My computer crashed and restarted on its own just fine, so I shut it down to clear out all the error crap that mucks things up when Windows decides to be an abortion of an operating system. I powered back up and got the dreaded Error Loading OS message. I shut back down and went into BIOS to check my boot order, saw it got jacked up, fixed it, and crossed my fingers. Damn near had a panic attack.

The "Canadian Pharmacy" and "Adriana" spam mail are very persistent. Every time I blocked their email addresses, they always find a new one to use.

If you have to filter spam manually, you need to set a better spamfilter.

I think I went slightly overboard with mine. The Spartan way. Nothing gets through except for bills.

If you have a 24 port hardware RAID card that retails over $1000 USD, you'd figure that a: you already had the drives or b: price was no longer a concern, especially if you're actually going to fill up said card. But that's just me. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
