You are objectively right, and normally my philosophy would be in total agreement. In a way, it still is, but my dislike for "influencers" knows almost no bounds. So I sort of hope these allegations are true.

Also, I don't plan on using this as rhetoric to an LTT fan until I know more. But I kind of hope the allegations are true, because LTT has actively made my life worse in the past (the Debian thing). And I don't think his videos are doing a public service.

Shills can get fucked as far as I'm concerned. And I consider Linus to be first and foremost a shill for commercial products and a pitchman for things people don't actually need rather than a source of knowledge or learning.

Eh, the reason why I think that way is not because of idealism, justice, fairness, or anything that wide-eyed, but rather jumping the gun risks handing a parachute for the asshat to save themselves later.

I remember there was a murder/rape case in Japan, where the cops almost managed to hang the bastard. But then, the defendant pointed out that some critical evidence was obtained in an illegal manner. Long story short, because of that the person got away free.

Internet drama doesn't really work like that, I know. But still, picture this: 3 years down the line, people found out that the chick actually lied/exaggerated her experiences in LMG. Nomies would just immediately forgive Linus' everything bullshit because they feel guilty for jumping the gun on that one thing (or possibly more if people went nuts with the accusations).

That's the part that doesn't sit right with me, the possibility of this being a lifeboat for Linus. If you really want to ruin someone, you need to make sure nothing would fireback on you down the line.

The thread is pretty detailed. I'd consider giving it a read.
It's not all just sexual harassment stuff, either. Some of it is general shitty employer tactics.

LTT apparently has its video production on hold and is doing damage control now.

It all feels like they tried to jam the culture that worked when they were small into a larger corporate machine operated by the new owners. Also it sounds like a high stress environment.

Some of the things mentions are fairly common dysfunctions but also culture mismatch. It sounds like they hired a bunch of twitch streamers to do professional content without managing the culture or behavioral issues nor expectations. There was obviously insufficient management structure for the new and existing staff.

I was expected to post 3 tweets, 2 Instagram posts, and 2 TikToks minimum per day.

I was also expected to plan, film, edit, and post 2 Floatplane exclusives per week.

This sounds fairly reasonable, the problem is it sounds like there isn't a production team working collaboratively nor a production manager. It doesn't sound like there was a managed content schedule to b able to put that content out.

I'd say that the previous person/s that were in the role were more veteran in the role and could achieve the output with little guidance or management. They then brought new people in with the expectation that they would effectively be performance above job description because the previous person can do it. If their veteran left because they were overworked, they should have rethought the role / structure.

I'm not specifically in social media but I have done this work before.

I try to keep in mind my standards of what I think is reasonable people sometimes gawk at. I've had people attempt suicide or had mental break downs trying to take over my roles when I have left or changed jobs.

Apparently the business behind Linus Tech Tips is in trouble now for sexual harassment/misconduct in the workplace. An employee felt like she had to cut her own leg open in order to have an excuse not to come in to work and not be harassed about it (in ways that male coworkers were not).

It (Linus Tech Tips) won't die, but I hope it does. Not because of the misconduct, although that'd be a good excuse I guess. I just loathe tech youtubers. Already hated Linus Tech Tips, so this is just more fodder for me to use against them and vindication of my claim that they are pieces of shit.

After doing a bit of research myself (less than 10 minutes). I can conclude there might be more to the sexual harassment thing than just a couple of tweets. Funny how this all started with another youtuber calling out LTT for being inaccurate in reviews, along with some other ethics problems, and then it absolutely escalated with former employees speaking out about sexual harassment at the LTT workplace.

The internet loves to jump the gun on these things, but i still stand by my point that i would love to see LTT die. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

There might be more to it. Sure. But it always seems suspicious when someone says that they were scared of x reason and did not speak out until a chain of events makes the situation bad enough that everyone jumps on the bandwagon to believe it without proper proof. Why wouldn't she speak out before that? Did she just forget about it all until LTT got into drama?

interesting. makes me wonder how LTT plans to compensate for that

considered writing a c cli frontend for a jack audio patcher, since catia always glitched out. but now I found a similar but working thing called patchage. still slightly tempted to do it just to have less gtk/ui applications. was perfectly fond of stuff like alsa/pulsemixer but those dont do easy patching, but now my motivation is gone again as I have something that works already.

Is there a lull in phone releases? I've got a phone that's getting on in the years but nothing grabs me as yeah this phone would be the perfect replacement.

37oC with low humidity is nice, just drink water and wear sunscreen.

(we have to wear sunscreen because the ozone layer hole is opening again).


45oC is brutal. Or 30oC with high humidity.

It's incredible the amount of USB stuff that still comes with "drivers" nowadays. Sometimes still in the box/with a CD, other times online. The drivers are almost never "drivers" anymore; just bloatware to install.

I guess people are still used to the idea of needing to install a driver for everything?

Thinking about it because I just got an IBM ScrollPoint PS/2 mouse, and it actually does need a driver for full operation (horizontal scrolling with the trackpoint it uses instead of a scroll wheel).

I really like the mouse, though, even if it's been an absolute bitch to get working under X (it can't automatically be detected, and there's next to zero documentation for the pre-USB ones).

They are improving but not in pure rasterization power for gaming at the same rate as in the past.

I hate it when sellers hide part of their product cost in their shipping costs. $8 for a $10 computer mouse, in single quantity? Fine; I get that. But $16 for two of them in a single box (when two would have fit in the single box the seller shipped a single mouse in)? There's no way just the extra weight is going to cost them twice as much.

I was going to buy four old ball mouses from a seller if they'd combine shipping and charge a fair rate. But paying $72 for those mouses when the nominal price is $40 is fucking stupid and a scummy business tactic when the seller lives within a day's driving distance of you in the same country.

Edit: Yes, I did contact the seller and asked ahead of time. I did not place the order. They basically said 'yeah we'll combine them in one box for environmental reasons or whatever, but no discounts on shipping unless you buy 10 or more.'

I am not fucking buying $100 worth of old ball mouses, no matter how clean and new looking they are.
