QUOTE(dragontamer8740 @ Jul 14 2023, 17:52) Wasm and WebGL aren't web components.
Web components allows for custom tags and break the whole concept of "keeping markup separate from styling." You create definitions for and add things like <businesscard> html elements, if I understand correctly.
It's why github and gitlab break so badly on older browsers.
didnt know of this yet, another webhorror to know about. QUOTE(EsotericSatire @ Jul 15 2023, 04:18) InfluxDB shows the problem with cloud services. They put a notice in the knowledge base documentation and sent an email telling people there was an update to the knowledge base documents...
The update in the knowledge base was a notice was that they were shutting down a whole bunch of server locations. Loads of companies had no clue that the data was going to be wiped. They were paying thousands a month...
Critical data nuked. Its similar to what I saw once in a past job years a go. People received an email that the cloud data was getting wiped in 1 hour. People were freaking out, crying, throwing up, desperately ringing people and trying to backup or migrate the data which was difficult with everyone doing it at the same time and causing drop outs or slow transfer rates.
its why I still try to push for keeping stuff locally hosted at work. usually that ends with having to freeze the version as the new version is cloud only. I can kinda cover up the security paperwork by saying its within the local only network so the risk is limited. and that we still have a lot hosts and architecture on site which helps sell the running it locally option because its pretty much 'free'. sad that its such a struggle these days to keep doing it this way, very non standard. companies dont even have their own servers anymore, not even a domain controller or some print server. Fought to get some phone app on my PC. On a virtual pc running android, it would install but not launch. On bluestacks, it would refuse to install, saying "it's not compatible with your device/phone/system" (alternating those depending on configuration tried to make it work) Finally got it working by using the Android 11 thingy instead of Nutella...Cookie...Twix...err whatever candy name the thing I was running was. ... But no widget support, can't have everything.
Also, managed to create a google account without giving a phone number somehow, but it will probably be stolen/locked by BIG G one day anyway for me not being a phoner make me unworthy of being human to it.
edit 2023/07/16: got rid of that garbage. One uninstaller was hidden, some installers were hidden, one thing that try to run at startup was hidden and not removed by any uninstaller. I should have used Sandboxie on this crap, what was I thinking? Cursed world of phones.

Aren't they planning to lock the unauthenticated accounts due to having too much privacy soon?

I can no longer search emojis on emojipedia from the search bar of my browser. Tried to delete the engine, but could not regenerate it from the site. Tried to get a new one from Mycroft Project, but it wasn't working (probably because it's the one I was using until now). I tried to mess with the html of the search engine install page, both online and offline, but if I knew how to fix things in this situation, I've forgotten how to do it since then (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Just learned that Byuu (Near), the author of bsnes/higan/ares (the emulator(s)), probably killed himself a year or two ago. It's sad. I'd talked to him before on a couple of occasions (via IRC, forums, Twitter, Reddit). Had a nice sense of humour and was nothing but nice to me. Also, how devious can spambots get. QUOTE(Tenboro @ Jul 10 2023, 06:23) The fundamental reason is that short terms aren't necessarily dropped with the new search engine, they can either be combined with other words or parsed as a tag. 恋 doesn't qualify as either, so it's dropped with a generic "I can't do anything with this" error.
And on a tangential note, it can't tell you which terms are dropped anymore because spambots figured out a trick where they could link to a search page with a search term like "artist:visit shittingdicknipples.boobies for more shitting dick nipples!" and then the (old) search engine would helpfully make an empty result page saying that the artist tag "visit shittingdicknipples.boobies for more shitting dick nipples!" is not valid. Which would then be indexed by Google et.al. and show up whenever someone searched for e-hentai shitting dick nipples. Thisiswhywecanthavenicethings™.
(Practically they were using it to advertise VPNs, but that's boring.) This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Jul 23 2023, 01:55

That's some deep spam exploitation.
edit: I think its funny that Microsoft is trying to get kudos for making some surface pro models repairable after... they lost the entire corporate market due to the shit serviceability and impossibility of repair and in some cases near impossibility of data recovery. Surfaces are banned in so many orgs I know lol.

Depends how you define hot I guess. I'd say everything except my thinkpads ran hot. New corporate dells run pretty well. The HP laptops, and some high end i7 laptops had overheating issues. Some of the desktop replacement laptops that were gigantic could get pretty warm. The HP I had with a desktop i7 920 needed a cooling pad with extra fans. It wasn't just thermal throttling it was shutting down due to the heat. I did get it for free though. This post has been edited by EsotericSatire: Jul 27 2023, 10:33

Been rocking M40x for a couple years and have been considering getting something better but in the end I just bought a new set of replacement pads and used the extra money for more games. DT 770 Pro looking real tempting though.

The last thing I was thinking about was about how technology has lead to a decline in anime quality... just kidding.
There is one project I am working on, where there are completely different design philosophies to solve the problems between windows / linux / android.
Windows: all the features, even features you don't need and cause problems.
Linux: Hyper optimization stripping out any features that are not needed to focus on the bare bones solution.
Android: Janky as heck, to maybe work on cheap janky small form factor systems. (there are good versions, but they are licensed).
The Linux version was working way better for the more narrow scope of what it did. Only barely did I get the windows version working better, though there are a million features and barely any documentation.

Might count as tech: Just bought a lego tub from the late 90's. Before the new colors started coming in hard and fast.
The way I like and remember it.
I like to make project housings and stuff out of lego.
Got some Wyse terminal keyboards. The terminals were with the keyboards but the person I sent to get them didn't know what a terminal was (thought they were just monitors with weird connections) and just thought I'd want the keyboards.
Ah well. Maybe another time.
Plan to use the lego to house an adapter in the meantime. Vintage MX black switches. My first actual Cherry switch board. At a reasonable price: three of them for free.
Thus justifying me spending $50+ on lego.

How would you define the assortment of classic Lego colors? I’d say... Primary colors: red, blue, yellow. Secondary colors: white, black. Tertiary colors: gray (much used in space sets, though), green (mainly in baseplates and trees). Supporting colors: brown (rare); several transparent ones, including colorless. Am I forgetting something relevant...? I’m pretty sure that Fabuland experimented with more colors as early as 1980s, and that some classic castle sets have a darker shade of gray for some helmets.

The Robin Hood sets used a lot of gray and brown bricks.
Is lego still used for learning programing and building robots? I feel like I've seen 3D printing and Arduino boards taking over that space. They certainly are more powerful once its setup.
Still some people rocking lego computer cases, but probably more a retro statement now. I am surprised Lian Li has not done some kind of brand colab for a case.

This definition is the correct one. Also the very, very earliest lego were in all kinds of colours. But I really mean the exact same colours you do, to the letter. [ blog.hobbydb.com] https://blog.hobbydb.com/2017/02/17/a-brief...of-lego-colors/Looking back, seems my first (new, not inherited) lego set was produced the first year Lego reported losses. Most of my sets are from the 70s and 80s, though. From older family members. A few Star Wars themed ones as well, from later on. Not my pic. How well do Lego bricks stand heat, if one builds a computer case and, say, misses a spot that emits more than average?
Is it okay to use bricks that have holes (or other similar solutions), or should one always leave a larger gap in the structure in places where notable amounts of hot or even warm air are to be expected?

Starts to discolor at 60oC, deform at 80oC and melt at 105oC. Looking at recent builds, seems people are trying to aim for 60-70oC thermals whilst gaming. So you certainly can not use all parts and thermals are a big issue.

my core temps (on-die) max out around 60°C, and my case never gets that hot. Lots of airflow, and I don't buy retardedly expensive stuff or drive 4K monitors. So I'd probably be fine. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Aug 2 2023, 22:47
