Google also joining the other tech companies to delete inactive and unverified accounts to improve their advertising pool.
Its literally banning anonymous accounts.

Tech-wise, I hate NVIDIA because of their stance on 40XX series.

Rumor that Win 12 requires GFX card with AI acceleration. Which would mean nvidia will put the prices up further.

Well not that its a requirement, just that Microsoft saying they will integrate support for AI acceleration for AI features in 12. Though for Win 11, they did implement hardware requirements. It could be like Win 10 where if you have supported hardware you get 'enhanced features' that are optional. They might just mandate intrusive cloud integration for AI features. 99% of the users don't even know what the present is let alone the future that's in store for them.

Its annoying how distributed the telemetry is. You have to change settings that are easy to access, then change group policy (requires a version that supports that), then you have to stop all the right processes from running.
Then Win update will reset everything eventually and probably implement new methods.
Even with Win 10, cutting the telemetry out completely could break windows, so we will probably see with Win 12 that disabling it will disable loads of functionality.

The other option is to use a firewall box between the host and internet to basically block everything coming from an idle host as a baseline, so you'd know what's telemetry versus actual traffic you want to reach wider internet.

I feel from ancient experience that would be kinda tricky, there is data going through so many different services and processes these days that I would probably end up having to block everything then slowly repoen ports and allow access for different services. Even then with data being sent via the same generic processes it might be difficult to block without breaking other things. I remember once long ago I had a military grade firewall, it was a major pain in the ass. Yes it was secure.. but functionality was impractical. I used to like using a software firewall on the machines and then configure the router's firewall to handle everything else. Not sure if I have time to setup that up as well as I used to. Also the really good software firewalls all died I think, because windows reached the barely serviceable level required. Maybe the new version of Spybot search and destroy could work, it claims to be able to block telemetry but sounds like that could be a feature of the paid version bleh.

Not interested! Can't deny that it seems Apple once again outclassed everyone else in that field though. This post has been edited by -terry-: Jun 8 2023, 20:49

I don't know if there is AR porn? I haven't looked into it. Apple will be very locked down though.

I have no interest in AR/VR, from Apple or otherwise, as long as it's being done for profit.

Regarding VR, I still wonder "how does it work for people needing glasses?" and "if it's bad being too close to a pc/tv screen, isn't it a huge issue here?"

If you can't fit your glasses into the headset or you don't have contacts you have to get prescription lenses to insert over the headset's lenses from companies like [ vroptician.com] VR Optician.

[ mullvad.net] Mullvad stops supporting port forwarding in less than a month. To continue to be able to use port forwarding, I have set up a Debian VPS and have an OpenVPN server running on it; can anyone with more experience help me figure out what I need to do to forward ports to computers connected to it? Guessing something iptables-related, but I have historically had a lot of trouble with networking and iptables. (I also will work on wireguard later, but I have some older devices that can't use it so OpenVPN is first priority). I need port forwarding through a VPN because of a draconian firewall on the network I get my internet from. Specifically, I'd like to know what I'd need to do to make incoming traffic to the VPS (IP address x.x.x.x) on port X get sent to a specific connected computer through the VPN tunnel. For illustration, let's call this client device IP address y.y.y.y. Say an external computer accesses the VPS on port 80. I would want the VPS to pass that traffic through to another machine on the VPN that is hosting an actual web server on port 80. I'd like to know how to do both TCP and UDP traffic. Is this an iptables problem? And is there an easier way for someone who hates messing with computer networking? Just realized this should probably go in the tech questions thread, but this will also serve as a PSA for people that Mullvad is going to become shit now. Doesn't that kill off a whole bunch of the functionality for their VPN service? edit: Omg windows is so fucking stupid. Fixed a bug that was just because 'microsoft' though it would be a useful feature, killing the feature makes my comp feel fast AF again.
