There is nothing so liberating as being able to crimp my own ethernet cables. Now I always have the correct length.

Bumping this thread to help bury the one about AI art. Fuck AI art. Also, holy shit, VP9 encoding is still slow as fuck, even after all of these years of development. Quality is nice, though. [ files.catbox.moe] https://files.catbox.moe/7w6b0x.webm^Still the best I've ever seen Sonic animated. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Apr 7 2023, 04:19

QUOTE if you have chinese phones such as oneplus, oppo, vivo, huawei they have their own protocol and you know for sure there's no way a public place offers VOOC or SCP fast charge. well maybe if you're in china but otherwise tough luck. Didn't know these existed, apart from Qualcomm's Quick Charge.

I didn't even know that fast charge was some kind of proprietary protocol and not just battery dependent

Yeah there are some weird protocols of varying compliance with standard.
The problem I have is having to have multiple chargers and hoping one will work with different devices.

So many apple users fell for that.... The funny one as also the fake ad claiming that new Apple iphones were water proof. Also now its like 50% of cheap android tv boxes that are compromised my malware, partially because they pirate each other's code.

I think phones have reached the level of development of laptops.
My old phone will be fine till it breaks. Probably more people are realizing which is why sales are slumping.

The hardware may be, but just like with laptops they will drop software support to force upgrades.

I upgraded my desktop from a 4790k to a 13700k today and im genuinely surprised how much faster web browsing is, not because of the advancement of hardware but because of how stupidly bloated and slow almost everything on the web is.
Anyway, my kernel compiles in like 10 seconds now, defconfig takes less than a minute. Might go back to gentoo with compile times like that

No plans to upgrade, although I do suffer on the web sometimes. It's worse on my 640LM (nehalem laptop). Kernel compiles were never 10 seconds for me... more like 10 minutes. But I guess you have four times as many cores and they're all running at least as fast. Also I still use mostly HDD's. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Apr 19 2023, 04:45

The Win10 law enforcement login backdoor is public again, its like literally the same as win 7 except they changed the target file.
It must be difficult to train law enforcement tech bros.

as its soon going to be warmer again and this place is not that well isolated considering getting an AC. considering one of those split units that have the gas and all the parts you need preinstalled. would just need to hook up power and screw in some tubes to get it set up. almost seems too easy though, the thought that it shouldnt and couldnt be this straight forward is still there. I thought the pre installed systems were not as efficient as the professionally installed split systems? Have they gotten better?' Why are EVs looking so dystopian? Our energy grid is barely sufficient at the moment and the price is sky rocketing because they are shutting down coal power plants... so their solution for EVs is putting limits on travel and Geo-fencing? My gas car isn't geo-fenced. I could drive to the other side of the country, not limit myself to a 15km boundary or be unable to charge during the summer. I just bought an early Japanese mega drive.
Also a white Japanese Saturn with the box for someone else.
Hope they can find some nice games to play on it.
Somehow the Saturn was cheaper.

some years ago the prefilled diy split systems were kinda new, I remember there only being a couple on the market and advertised here. now it seems to be all you see when looking to buy them yourself and not through some instalation company. they seem alright, know somone that has one and didnt have much trouble with it, my only personaly issue is that you dont pull a vacuum or as good of one as the professionals on the tubing as you install it yourself. some come with closed off tubes where this is somewhat done but most keep the tubes open and just have gas pressurized in the main unit that fills the system when you install it. so in theory they could be underfilled compared to a properly installed one. still probably going to take the gamble, its like a 4th of the price of getting someone to install even a bottom of the barrel unit QUOTE(EsotericSatire @ Apr 21 2023, 12:16) Our energy grid is barely sufficient at the moment and the price is sky rocketing because they are shutting down coal power plants... so their solution for EVs is putting limits on travel and Geo-fencing?

infrastructure really isnt scaling up and things are already being throttled at charging places, going to be interesting how they backpaddle it to stop the grid falling appart, see more and more people getting electrics on leases now.

QUOTE(dragontamer8740 @ Apr 21 2023, 03:58) Australian infrastructure cope?
Most western countries have teh same problem. France didn't because it had a large number of nuclear reactors but with the restriction on new reactors and a lot of old reactors scheduled for decommission they are going to be screwed too. Green energy is not even keeping up with current demand let alone projected demand if we go all EV. California is already having big problems and they have only rolled out a fraction of their targets.
