The 4090 is basically maxed out in terms of power limit and overclock by default which reviewers are saying is a bit weird as you can easily drop the power 100w and keep 95% of the performance.

I believe they went balls to the wall, to justify the price hike 4090 vs 3090 launch price or maintain the price hike on the 3090ti.

Also its a halo product, the 4090 does have the generational performance increase that we want... but the 4080 and 4080 (fake) are severally cut down chips compared to previous gens, which means the price / performance ratios are way worse for those cards.

Nvidia also has a massive stock of 3000 series left, so they want people to fork out to buy 4090s for the price hike if you want a big performance upgrade (at a cost power/price) or get the lower value 4080s or just buy old stock 3000 series.

it makes sense but its not great value. EVGA leaving is also probably not good for linux users as EVGA was one of the major forces trying to push Nvidia to be more open and have better support.

I took out my old keyboard to play Genshin Impact.
Having all the numbers keys and function keys all very grouped together was too disastrous.
I'm still opening weird menus unrelated to what I intended, but much less.
Often I have 2 keyboards connected at the same time because it's just simpler to plug and plug the alternative, instead of switching them.

The problem with DLSS 3.0 frame generation is that it seems to add what looks to be like video compression artifacts to the scene. When there is a lot of hard to predict motion or moving text or UI it can add a lot of garbage similar to what you might see with compression artifacts or streaming artifacts.

They could drop support for X, OpenCL, OpenGL, and Vulkan and only support CUDA.

My card's one of the only maxwell generation cards that won't instantly turn into a paperweight when they stop publishing binary drivers because it doesn't need signed firmware and works acceptably (not great, but acceptably) in Nouveau.

NoVidia still hasn't signed off on those nouveau firmware files like they said they would back in 2016 for most maxwell and pascal cards.

Get rid of cuda cores, AI cores only,1000 frames per second 100% generated frames. lol

Yeah signed drivers were bs. It seemed just to lock out so many things you could do otherwise.

In Funny news though, Nvidia had to 'unlaunch' the 4080 12gb (aka 4070) because of all the blow back they got on pricing and naming. It kinda screws over board partners though.

Nvidia also removed the hashrate limiter to try to recover miner sales.

They're not really signed drivers. It's signed on-board firmware for a processor on the card itself. Specifically for the power management chip that controls re-clocking the card (which is not the same as overclocking; it's just bringing the card up to its advertised speeds from the low speed it runs at during boot) and also controls the GPU fan (which is kind of critical if you want to run at high speeds so you don't destroy your card).

People who use paysites (patreon, fanbox, subscribestar) to link to discord 'servers' with all their art are pure evil.

Even people who might want to support you and don't mind that you're clearly just trying to sidestep kemono are being forced to use a platform that's terrible for mass downloads and for general performance/usage. Even worse than Patreon, IMO.

The one I'm talking about uploads to a discord channel thing, and additionally links a mega folder. The official reason this person cites is "ease of uploading" and patreon's poor performance with multiple large embeds. But then on their discord channel thing they say that they will be removing and re-linking the mega folder every so often, which means that's clearly not their reason.

If you're just obsessed with trying to curb 'piracy,' then just fucking say so. There's no goddamn reason to lie about it. All you did was make me more dedicated.

I will not enjoy scraping their content to share here, but I will do it. After a brief delay to try to avoid detection.

Recompiled Wine to fix a small bug when running Photoshop where tooltips would never disappear.

Thankfully, since I'd kept my build directories from when I first built it, I only had to recompile and link a mere handful of files instead of all of wine.

Also got FVWM to pass 'alt+click' events through to photoshop while preserving the ability to alt+click drag other windows around. Since Photoshop doesn't let you remap alt to something else.

With the "generate images from keywords" things increasing in popularity, I wonder if for April Fool or something, Google could make image search results instead of searching them one day (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I hate those image generators. If (when) they get good enough they will start to devalue actual 2d artists who can't compete in speed or (in many cases, with beginners) quality.

Technology ruins everything.

Just dremeled the armrests off of an Ikea Renberget chair.

The back part of the armrests connects the top and bottom of the chair, so I left that in place.

Wondering if I should be worried enough about the continued structural integrity of the chair to go buy some planks of wood, or if this will still hold together for a long time.

It's a damn comfy chair; I just hated the armrests.

Might try to make hinged ones for it at some point if I do go the wood route.

I thought the arm rests were screwed on?

They are, but they are also integral support on this specific chair.
The bottom and back are in two pieces, and the armrest also holds the back up.

My other ikea chair does not need them at all and they can be removed on it. But not this one. My fault for not checking that when I was at ikea.

I dremeled the arms into L shaped beams. For now it seems to be sturdy enough. But we'll see how it holds. I like everything else about this chair... at least after I cut the safety brakes off the casters. But if my floor were uneven I might have even liked those.

I made command line tools to help me manage my rotating signature thing.

[gitlab.com] https://gitlab.com/dragontamer8740/grumpybumpers-mgr/
(clone URL [gitlab.com] https://gitlab.com/dragontamer8740/grumpybumpers-mgr.git )

This lets you feed it a list of image URL's, one per line, and send that list to the server. It also lets you grab a list of your currently set images so you can back your settings up locally.

It uses cURL, a bourne shell, and for pretty-printing HTML it also uses Python and BeautifulSoup4.
