If motherboard features depend on vendor specific proprietary windows-only software, they might as well not exist.

Well it almost became malware where it had bios settings to install the software on windows... I think they had to remove that because everyone was calling it a trojan.

I almost thought it was good feature until they broke their own software and turned it into highly unstable bloatware. I still can't get over the idea they had, instead of asking you want manufacturer your ram was or trying to detect it, they just spammed every driver and software package from every RAM manufacturer... causing mass instability.

I think in more recent bios updates you can managing things in bios instead.

Edit: California is hilarious. After banning gas car sales, the Governor of California now has the power to declare an energy emergency and deactivate car charging remotely and can turn off your air conditioning remotely. They also want QR code health code system to lock people down like China. Also the ability to restrict water in a water emergency.

Green new deal? More like Red new deal.

Edit2: LOL for air con, everyone that went into the energy rewards program were locked out of their AC in the energy emergency. If you sign up for the rewards system you get a small discount each month ($25 annually) but they can remote turn off your AC and or power.

Depends on signal strength, where you position the wireless (5G?) modem in your house and also congestion.

You could also see if there are better modems with better antennas that are allowed by your ISP.

They'd better be paying my auto insurance for me if I am to even consider something that stupid.

I considered getting one of the motherboards with the useless rgb odities that required dedicated windowswarez, purely to have a good weekend trying to get to it on linux. usually they're reachable through the i2c bus.
ultimately I never bothered and still have the motherboad I bought with a 2012 build, but maybe one day

what always annoys me is that AC=bad but heatpump=good, even though its the same device and technology. so in the summer I'm 'destroying the environment' by running my heatpump to cool, then in the winter I'm 'saving the environment' by running it to heat.
meanwhile everyone uses the same technology for refridgerators where no one cares, and a lot of dryers use heatpumps as well these days.
if I ever end up in one of the newfangled homes where theres only a heatpump I'm only going to run it for cooling and heat through portable gas heaters out of sheer spite

Hello fellow 2012 PC build user.
things really stagnated, dont really feel like I'm missing out on anything. if anything its only a positive switch whenever I'm back on my home system compared to the all newest of the new running windows work system

I always thought reverse cycle systems were basically heat pumps.

it might be localized to here (netherlands), I see a lot of content from people living elsewhere where heatpumps are used more as a valid means of heating/cooling because it works out cost wise. instead of it being forced on by the government

Thought: "Hey, since when does '/' open some kind of Quick Search in Firefox? How many years/decades that thing has existed without me ever running into it until today?"

Only if you have 'type ahead find' turned on. I hate that feature and it interferes with websites, so I have it disabled and use ctrl-f like a crazy person.

After your post, I was looking into disabling it: "accessibility.typeaheadfind" was off, probably because it's what you can regulate from the preferences (didn't confirm if the setting match since I have french interface) and I didn't check it.
BUT...
There was a stupid additional setting called "accessibility.typeaheadfind.manual".
With that now turned to off, it won't weirdly summon that strange search box, and I'm back to only good old Ctrl+F only too (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I found how to modify the NoScript popup in Firefox through CSS using userContent.css.
It may be possible to make NoScript great again..sort of.

AdBlock Plus on the other hand can still not be updated as doing so would kill all filter lists and stuff, and it was still doing that last time I tested. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Why not move over to uBlock Origin and uMatrix?

Because assuming they can do the same thing, the process to get them to do so is unknown, and they may make things more complicated or less user-friendly. And of course, whether they really can do all the things my plugins currently do is not 100% sure.

Thought: finally pushed a bit more than usual some parts of my 2080 TI: I played a 4K video of the PS5 technical demo The Matrix Awakens. From Open Hardware Monitor, I reached:
*66% use of GPU core
*41% of GPU frame buffer
*88% of GPU video engine (never reached that high before, definitely a record)
*31% of GPU bus interface (I wonder what fill that one?)
*33.7% of GPU memory

I wonder if I would have actually lagged and/or reached 100% if I had a 4K screen (and thus was running at more than 2K resolution at the time)

because they're too stubborn to change even in instances where the change is an improvement

I don't think I've used ABP since 2014 or so.

I can see why breath of the wild was in development for so many years. It is quite ambitious and there are tons of intricacies of character interactions, things like eye contact, etc..

It's pretty fun to break the physics in puzzle rooms (trials). I've made a perpetual motion machine out of the magnetism thing, a metal shield, and a stone block that I surf on top of.

doesn't abp have like an approved list of advertisers that they will shadow whitelist if you don't config the thing? which is fucking stupid and defeats its entire purpose

Yes; that is part of why I stopped using it.

They had a "show acceptable ads" setting, and IIRC the way your ad was dubbed acceptable was if you payed the ABP people money.
