did it finally become '''news'''?
like that time it was '''news''' facebook was selling data to advertising companies
Yeah it comes in and out of the news cycle. TikTok is using Oracle 'infrastructure' but they control all the VMs and the software layer, its bare metal setup, so it does nothing, which makes the whole thing stupid. It shows politicians generally have zero clue about technology, yet they make so many of the decisions. There is one new US software engineer freaking out because they thought they were serious about data security.
Suspiciously high paid job means you are not supposed to be suspicious.
Facebook probably is still selling more data to overseas through third parties.
The situation with apps and data reminds me of the apartment building cladding problem here:
Politician: "Can you tell us why this brand of cladding imported from China is such a fire risk and how can we address the problem with legislation"
Expert: "I don't think you understand, since around 2002, ALL cladding used on ALL apartment buildings from ALL countries/suppliers does not meet flame safety requirements. You can consider any building using cladding since that period is effectively covered in fuel/petrol from a fire safety perspective, if you actually care about fire safety"
Government has said their programs do not insure buildings over four storeys and Insurance companies say they do not cover any buildings with 'defective' cladding (all high rise since 2000s).
