QUOTE(EsotericSatire @ Nov 16 2021, 05:48) Does that work? Do some mobo need to have 3-3.5v there to post? I was reading that on the older boards the most common upgrade is to add a battery pack that can be changed easily. Yeah; it works. The battery only powers the real time clock IC, and is likewise recharged by the real time clock when powered on. if it's not connected, the real time clock still runs (powered by the motherboard) but starts at 00:00 january 1 or whatever it's epoch is. I have clipped the battery out of my Amiga and it runs without problems (except for timestamps being fucked up). It's also why you can play NES/SNES/Game Boy games where the save battery has died; you just can't save anymore. I'd love to add a new battery pack or something, but that's non-essential to booting. I believe that modification also adds diodes to stop non-rechargeable batteries from charging. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Nov 16 2021, 17:12

I don't know if it happened when I updated to Firefox 91.3.0 ESR, or when I updated Windows, but it finally happened: π«π· πΊπΈ π―π΅ π΄ββ οΈ I can see flags now (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Windows. I can see those flags in firefox 60. Edit: Apparently some idiots will buy a damaged 34 year old keyboard (that can't be used on any computer with an Intel processor ever made, by the way) for $225 ($200 + $25 shipping) on ebay if you say "orange alps" in the listing title. BTW, the retail price in 1987 was $230. So ignoring inflation you could actually say that it has appreciated, if a damaged one is selling for that. Mine was $20. Keyboarders feel kind of stupid to me. [ i.imgur.com] (IMG:[i.imgur.com] https://i.imgur.com/1KJqbFcg.jpg) If you're wondering how I'm using one then, it's got a microcontroller slipped inside it to translate to USB. The only commercial product I know existed (made by Belkin) is expensive now, and DIY isn't the kind of thing I expect someone this foolish would be willing to try. Does it feel nice? Sure. Does it feel $100-175 better than easily available mechanical keyboards? No. With a quick glance at ebay I can see boards with other kinds of alps switches for $50 or so. Constantly. The lead developer also has the same opinion. The censoring was done by the forum moderator.

Damn I cut my lip. Why don't we have very little robots playing lumberjacks, so that the work would be done cleanly. Instead, we have razors, that are like using a liner-sized steamroller-like thing (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

In that was in regards to palemoon, no wonder they're not in Foobuntu's repos. If they're trying to style themself as a better firefox, being hostile to FOSS and the way linux users typically get programs, isn't going to do them any favors.

Digital media has created so many problems in the court room due to people messing with resolutions, compression, up-scaling, and also creating stills generated from multiple frames.
If the defense and judge are non-technical, there are huge opportunities for manipulation.

I wonder what alternatives exist to earplugs you have to screw in your ears so they stay in place, but it can hurt in the morning? Headphones at least would not work due to possibility of turning around... (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

If you have a home version... well you can't turn them off without 3rd party software. You might be able to add the update server to the hosts file lol.

It ignores group policies now and always ignored the hosts file.
As an aside, I try to avoid installing stuff outside the package manager on linux if at all possible- If I can't use synaptic/apt-get, I won't install the software unless I have a really good reason to.

Hmmm looking at the history, this actually happens every two years like clockwork. For some reason they shift which group policy flags work and make it a combo of different flags. If companies complain enough they will fix it.

Have a resource for what settings I should have to what?
Also looking for a way to add workspaces, and disable the dumb mouse ober comppsting thing in task switcher. Inb4, W10 does seem to have a xomposting based 'virtual desktop' feature stock, but I ripped all that stuff out lomg ago. It also doesn't even work like normal linux workspaces that switch via a widget in panel. I had something back in XP era, but I doubt it still even works.
Also looking for how to make palemoon for windows stop nagging me about updates...
Can't find an actual answer to any of these >:

I compile ~30% of my stuff that I use a lot, I'd say. Mostly for compile-time options. Sometimes because out-of-repo, like Seamonkey. I built wine staging from source yesterday just because I could, though. BTW that wine build leaves me unable to use any graphical programs now. Upgrading my kernel, graphics driver, etc. to see if that helps at all. If not I'll be downgrading wine to the old build I kept on-hand just in case. I hate doing dist-upgrades. This one's going to break displaycal since they're too busy spinning their wheels to update their program to use Python 3 already. Oh well; I can still use Argyll directly. Also: Gee, thanks, Linus. I really like not being able to do things I used to be able to do because I am root. What an improvement. Next we'll need User Account Control to make sure root can't do anything else without typing in a password every single time. Fuck linus tech tips. I just found a picture of my desk from around 8 years ago. I miss that desk. (Yeah, I used to use 4chan. No, I don't anymore). I hardly have any of the hardware on that desk left anymore, but some of the software hasn't changed much. I still use mcomix (right monitor), but have gone down the FVWM rabbit hole as far as the rest of my desktop environment is concerned. I also still use Seamonkey (left monitor). I think I even still have that imac's HDD in my current computer with the Debian partition intact, so I could probably boot into that desktop if I really wanted to. I wish I hadn't had to sell that PC CRT for lack of space. It was a nice multiscan one and could do some pretty crazy resolutions. Only thing I miss about that imac is the screen, though. Nice 1440x900 matte LCD. I remember I had to take it apart and remove this stupid fucking magnet from inside the casing of that imac, because it interfered with the picture on the CRT. I have no idea what the magnet was for but the internet suggests it might be for a remote of some sort. If you look closely you'll see an alligator clip attached to something sticking out of my USB hub. That's a wire leading to a tomato soup can that I was using to try to make my USB wlan work a little better. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Nov 19 2021, 05:34

Update: It's not even been 12 hours, and I have already been shafted by linus tech tips' being retarded. Trying to remove a secondary architectures' packages on my amd64 host, since libgcc is apparently behind on powerpc and it was preventing me from updating some packages that I need more than multiarch powerpc support. CODE The following packages will be REMOVED: gir1.2-atk-1.0:powerpc gir1.2-atspi-2.0:powerpc gir1.2-freedesktop:powerpc gir1.2-glib-2.0:powerpc gir1.2-harfbuzz-0.0:powerpc gir1.2-pango-1.0:powerpc libaom-dev:powerpc libaom0:powerpc libaom3:powerpc libasan5:powerpc ----snip---- libzstd-dev:powerpc libzstd1:powerpc mesa-vulkan-drivers:powerpc uuid-dev:powerpc zlib1g:powerpc zlib1g-dev:powerpc WARNING: The following essential packages will be removed. This should NOT be done unless you know exactly what you are doing! libcrypt1:powerpc libc6:powerpc (due to libcrypt1:powerpc) libgcc-s1:powerpc 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 252 to remove and 45 not upgraded. After this operation, 1,120 MB disk space will be freed. E: Removing essential system-critical packages is not permitted. This might break the system. Before Linus Tech Tips decided to fuck things up for everyone with a brain, this is where I'd be prompted to type "yes, do as I say" after a warning that you probably really don't want to do this and should make absolutely sure you know what you are doing, like a responsible adult. (IMG: https://forums.e-hentai.org/uploads/post-1097716-1637292878.png) Now it just fucking refuses because (so I gather, from secondhand discussion) Linus couldn't stop being a fucking retard for long enough to record a stupid fucking video and apparently blames debian for his never learning how to read or think critically. So instead of taking the five seconds to make sure that everything being removed is something I expect and want gone, I have to spend five minutes flipping through a man page to find a new option. It won't even stop idiots like Linus, though; they'll just find a guide online where someone tells them to use '--allow-remove-essential' after this change hits stable and blindly follow it to their doom, as before. I hope none of you subscribe to him. But I'm sure some do. I take pride in not even knowing what that fucker looks like. Youtube influencers are a scourge. So my new command to do something that required basic fucking user interaction before is accomplished by looking in the man pages and finding CODE apt-get --allow-remove-essential -o Dpkg::Options::="--force-remove-essential" remove libgcc-s1:powerpc libcrypt1:powerpc libc6:powerpc is what I want to run. Update: Huh, whaddya know, since I am actually competent and know what I'm fucking doing my computer still is working after a reboot. No thanks to Linus. Funny how the famous youtuber can't keep a working machine for a week and other people can keep the same install for a decade (mine's not quite there yet, but I know some who are. Mine's at 7 years).
