Imagine buying a 1080p television with dead pixels at ~ $ 6000 USD

I don't see the use of a transparent TV, just to show off that you're an idiot with a lot of money
it'd be nice for some publc installs, maybe for bus stalls, or building sized.
just advertising usecases I can see really

And this reminds me when I am already booked up by my girl and then I got a call for work from office.....
On Saturday (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
I turn off my phone immediately (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
My girl also get one and we both decide to just ditch the sudden work which have happened too damn often and thus both of us didn't attend the meeting that day
The funny thing is, on Monday, our co-workers (who still didn't know that we are dating) teases us about it and saying things like "So, you two both are not online last saturday, are you dating each other?"
If only they know the truth (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Think I'm gonna ditch my Motorola kit that never got windows software. Haven't taked myself up into selling any of it off, but have replaced it all now.

I bought a siren amplifier for my radio while drunk, so I guess I'll play around with it.

Why do you need or want windows software?

Did it just never get any software for any platform?

The older ones used DOS software. Some of them don't have a software version that can use a buffered serial port or a pentium/586+ cpu.
Windows is an improvement, and I keep an airgapped win xp sp2 + win 7 laptop just for working on radios.

Makes sense.

Me every time I do a 'git pull' on another git repo and see that they've added a Dockerfile

On the console used in the development of Sonic 3D Blast, the dev added a button to activate the cheat screen.

The cheat screen was originally added as a way to trick Sega QA team, as any game crash would redirect to the cheat menu and make it look deliberate. It worked.

Had to fight for a while with a torrent downloaded on an external disk/system to get all files on my computer hard disk.
A combination of "Maximum Path Length Limitation" and "weird invisible unsupported characters in the names" making my life difficult.
I see that the former can supposedly be dealt with some registry trick on Windows 10, but what about programs that use hardcoded values, or use the value to make containers for string (if new limit was 25600 instead of 256, then maybe the memory consumption of lots of task could be effectively multiplied by 100)...thus I didn't try enabling the trick.

lol, windows

Really though the solution (besides throwing windows in the garbage) is to download into a dir higher up on the filesystem, and have a symbolic link lower down that goes up to it.

TL;DR, though:
That button is just to trigger an NMI (non maskable interrupt) on the 68K. You could probably force the same behavior by grounding IPL0-IPL2 (the three interrupt pins on the CPU). That's pins 23-25 on the DIP 68K.
MC68000 interrupts are explained here:
[marc.retronik.fr] http://marc.retronik.fr/motorola/68K/68000...1988_12p%5D.pdf
Had to manually escape the square brackets in that URL as hex codes to get the forum software to not mangle it.

Thought: Just uploaded a variant on my profile pic. Not sure if/when it'll show up. Also not sure if I'll keep it or go back to one of the older ones. Might be cool to color the middle section differently.
(IMG:[i.imgur.com] https://i.imgur.com/zAUjiRN.gif)
Also thought: I really like the 68K.

It seems that the keyboard of my laptop did not last 8 months, great
The weirdest thing is that sometimes it responds quite well, but other times the R, T, F, G, V, B, 4 and 5 keys do not react

Is this a mac?

At any rate, take the keyboard connector out and re-seat it.

if that fails, get a conductive pen and pray that you can take the board apart and get it together again.

Unless if it's a mac, then lol you're just fucked

Meh, it's Windows, even so it seems that it is already solved

By the way, what shitty drivers, I spent a week looking like crazy if the hardware suffered a breakdown or something else, but no, it was the generic driver

Ooof, I missed the entire string theory thing. Damn.

Anyway my favourite definition of it was my professor's one at uni times:

String theory in a nutshell: The world is not 3 dimensional, not even 4 dimensions where time is the 4th dimension. The world is 7 dimensional: 3 space dimensions, 3 revolution dimensions and 1 time dimension which has no symmetric revolution dimension. Now we just rewrite all physics into 7 dimensions and it will solve our theoretical problems! Turns out that rewriting everything into 7 dimensions is harder than one first thought.

Just got my new battery. It's dead on arrival. Damn it.

OTOH, new 6TB HDD (wd red plus, e.g. the non-SMR disk) works, and now I finally have space to hoard things again on my desktop.

I had to mount it in a 5.25" bay adapter bracket, so hopefully it doesn't need a fan blowing on it. I left space above and below it.

Might move one of my older HDD's up there and put the red in the path of the fan, but I'm going to keep at least my black and my ancient seagate boot drive in the air flow. Probably the (hitachi era) deskstars, too.

Also got a four port SATA controller, so now I can actually add more drives and stuff to my case again. And have an optical drive plugged in at the same time as my seven hard disk drives.

I kind of suspect my HDD's are going to be generating fair amount of the heat in my case. 77 W TDP on my CPU, which I am not using the integrated graphics on. Similar on my GPU, but nvidia-smi claims I'm using significantly less (38W cap reported there). My GPU draws all power from the PCIe slot.

To be honest though for a long time I didn't have a fan on my disks at all and nothing happened. So I'm probably worrying too much.

only after having drives stacked in a crammed case during the summer and them getting up to 'hot to touch' temps (60°C according to ir meter) did I actually manage to kill some.
I suspect as long as they're mounted properly with some spacing and airflow they'll be fine without their own fan.

speaking of drives all the cheap 1tb 2.5" drives I got are working so far and I'm trying to get a deal on a guy selling a big batch of 2.5" SAS 1tb drives. should have the server filled soon at this rate.
kinda tempted to look into more hardware for adding drives since it really stops being cheap at >1tb per drive with the 2.5" second hand market. but I think 8 1tb drives (~6-7tb raided volume) should last me a while at least.

There's not much air flowing directly over my new drive mounted in the 5.25" bay. There is plenty of air flowing through the case though (maybe even an excessive amount).

I do notice my old ST3500630AS uses about double the power of the new drive, though, and I ran that without a fan on it for years in a Dell pentium 4 HT 3GHz µATX PC.

Also I just disabled head parking on the new disk, since that served me well with my old black drive.

I have a green I shucked (or did I pull it from an imac? I guess that's sort of shucking anyway) ages ago in here, too; it claims it's cycled one million times now. So I disabled the idle3 timer on it.

Also, found someone else on IRC who has the exact same old seagate HDD model as I boot from; their disk has over double the hours mine has on it. Theirs is over 110k hours, meaning it's been running basically constantly since it was new. Mine's around 50k hours. That made me happy to see.

The internet 10-20 years ago, before everything got completely monetized, was so great.

There's still great stuff out there now, but between Flash and early (pre-video game streamer) youtube, newgrounds, and other sites, there were so many gems that have slipped through the cracks.

I remember when I would get random video suggestions like this on Youtube when looking up something unrelated, instead of stupid polished clickbait with baity thumbnails. Occasionally even videos with almost no views. Awesome times.

That video is a work of art in its own stupid way.
It was even better before Google bought it, of course.

Megavideo was also pretty cool, even though it was annoying how they wanted you to get a premium membership to pirate stuff.
One with way fewer views/less notoriety that's also pretty fun:
