As for tech in them, a magnetron is a magnetron, not much to profoundly improve on once you add a keypad and display, and stirrer amd/or platter. I think mine has a stirrer and spinning platter.

Maybe, the install requirements would be an issue and the person I asked said just to get a Miele? if I was going to spend that much anyway.

I have a 800 watt US made one from 20+ years ago, still works fine except it doesn't spin so it's not efficient.

Most of my previous microwaves lasted about 10+ years. Based on reviews current models are lasting 2 years.

You can get inverter microwaves or dual magnetron models that don't need a turntable/platter.


It looks like all the models I bought in the past were the top or mid range models made in the US / Japan / Korea.

I wanted to get a convection model but they require space for venting to avoid being a fire hazard.

It had taken months but Google finally fixed the wallpaper app's persistent crashing issue on Android 11.

Android 8 is still the newest one I've used.

found out today that (luckily) whatsapp still allows me to use my kitkat device, was afraid I had to get a new smartphone since they announced something related to forcably kicking off old devices in april.
hopefully one day I can live my dream of not needing a smartphone anymore, currently only keep one around for when services/people annoyingly only want whatsapp communication.

Wrote a C program that uses multiple fork()'s and execv()'s for the first time outside of a class yesterday.

I think I finally understand somewhat how fork() works now. Funny how classes don't manage to make me learn anything but under an hour of writing stuff on my own is effective.

The one thing i still can't figure out is the "correct" way to wait for a forked execv() program to exit before doing the next action, since waitpid() doesn't seem to work if called from another forked subprocess and execv() doesn't return unless there's an error (it apparently replaces the current process, which is why I think I have to use fork() in the first place). For now I just have a sleep() call in the other forks to give it a little time, but there has to be a better way.

The program I wrote basically does this:

• setuid(0); (necessary since I launch a shell script later, and some shells (bash) will otherwise spit on me and fall back to user privileges if they detect that they were run with the SUID bit otherwise)
• if the setuid fails, report an error and exit
• forks and runs 'dhclient -r' on my wireless interface to de-associate it with any IP address it already has
• if the fork or execv fails, report errors and exit
• forks again and calls a shell script I previously wrote which runs wpa_supplicant with a specified config file
• if the fork or execv fails, report errors and exit
• forks, and after a few seconds of waiting runs 'dhclient' on the wireless interface again, this time to get a new IP address
• if the fork or execv fails, report errors and exit
• waitpid() to wait for the wpa_supplicant calling script to exit

For maximum scariness this program is setuid root, just so that I don't have to type 'sudo' or add a sudoers rule to connect to wireless networks.

Update: Looks like [stackoverflow.com] this might be all I needed to do for the waiting; duh.

A long time ago, when invertebrates still dominated the seas, my uni classes forced my to write the following in C: a program that recursively forks 50 times, then stops forking. Each fork prints something different and all forks terminate in reverse order of creation. i.e. the printout needed to be in a predetermined order. Good times.

And yes pretty much, the entire trick is the return of fork() and the fact that exec calls take over the process.

When I took out a battery from my TV remote, a black part around the tip started to detach.
I'm currently assuming that battery should be thrown to recycling, but maybe it's not that important?
Yet my attempts at searching the web about that ended in failure (keywords too generic, throw me to random-nonsense-land).

Uh, is this the tip of the battery? Is it the thing that surrounds the button top on the cell? Like, in a rechargeable cell?

Yeah you don't actually need that. I've had a handful of AA NiMH's over the years do that.

I think that happens because they're venting, though, so even if you keep using it consider it to be on its last legs. You may be able to get a few more cycles out of it.

Vaugely related note, bought a small stack of <$5 thrift store dvd players and stripped em down for parts. Nice power cords with a strain relief I can just stick into a notch in a case, some had usable power supply modules, then misc small stuff and hardware.

And I suppose the entertainment value of spending an evening taking them apart and desoldering stuff. I mainly wanted the cords, I ran out of ones with a strain relief on em.

I still can't find the motivation to spend five to ten minutes getting out my soldering iron and mounting three LED's on a piece of perfboard to replace the blue LED's built into my new keyboard. I started to earlier today but got sidetracked when I started getting texts from a friend.

Usually though I also enjoy taking apart stuff for pieces like that. Have done it to several amplifiers/receivers over the years. Actually, most of my project parts have historically been taken from other hardware.

Since different IRC daemons generally cannot be linked together for the purposes of server-to-server links, this necessarily entails creating a brand new IRC network which is not linked with the old one. In other words, there are now two Freenodes: an “old” Freenode running ircd-seven and a “new” Freenode running InspIRCd. Channel #x on one is completely unrelated to channel #x on the other, so Freenode has essentially netsplit itself. Deliberately.

In short, it seems there was no effort whatsoever to migrate the services database when migrating from Atheme to Anope. Not only that, this transition happened suddenly with, as far as I am aware, zero warning. Freenode has simply dropped all nickname and channel registrations without warning.

Since I'm in "communication" with a customer service, and wanted to keep a trace, I wanted to "print to PDF" the discussion so far, and tried to do so with the filename "com1" (assuming there would be more later).
I was surprised to be reminded that it was a reserved name by Windows.
I would have thought since the pdf extension was chosen in the drop down menu, it would automatically add it before checking for validity, and it would have worked.

E3 needs to be put out of its misery. Konami´s E3 2010 is now the whole show for 2 years running.

I haven't login to freenode in more than a week now (since all gnu/fsf stuff moved too) but wow!

I just wish other communities that got suicided by their own new SJW policy makers were as quick as this. Stack Overflow is dying a slow death for some 3 years now.

I haven't joined the new freenode yet, and still have no interest in libera.
Libera seems to furthering the weirdness that led to the stuff being able to implode, and I still don't grok how global oppers are relevant.
As for freenode, the new ops have basically picked wrong in every choice they've made. They managed to start with a functional large network and still fuck up- they even got rid of the default option. Ie stay put and try to wait out the shit storm.

I might try popping onto new freenode, as of this morning I was still connevted to one of the last two servers on old freenode.

I think they did it this way more than a decade ago, but it created a big mess back then. It might not even have been freenode, it may have been another server and then everyone migrated to freenode. I can't remember exactly.

Seems a bit crazy that they are banned channels for mentioning different servers in the topic.

Due to the shortage, people are selling pre-built gaming computers with ancient cards like Nvidia 650 and 730. In normal conditions for those prices you would normally expect a GTX 1650 / 1660.

Nvidia GTX 1660 is now a premium card apparently, its selling for (1660 4gb) 500-800 (1660 super) in my country.
