Always backup your save data prior to an update/shutdown. No exceptions.
Also, upload to an external device or server for extra safety.

Well, see, the thing is H@H doesn't actually have save data. I just record my session uptime and bandwidth usage for recordkeeping.

QUOTE(Mika Kurogane @ Apr 2 2012, 19:38) Now, don't get me wrong, I agree with you on this part. Except that's their job and they should do it right. Instead, most of them decide to be assholes to all customers including the ones who are polite and have serious questions, and get paid for drinking coffee, browsing titty sites or playing Facebook apps. Developers' job is to develop games, not customer support. It's true that some of them handle customer support as well, but that just means they have more than one job. In every job there are people who get paid and drink coffee, browsing titty sites and play Facebook apps instead of working. Why do you think game development is somehow different from all other jobs, more special in respect to that? QUOTE(Mika Kurogane @ Apr 2 2012, 19:45) They could at least redirect him to the right person. How long does it take to do that ? It's all a matter of numbers. If they're getting thousands of posts a day, even 5 seconds glance and redirect for each of them is enough to take up all day and leave no time for actual game development.

Sheesh, downloading speed from Rapidshare is pathetic! 15kbps at most.

Why do you think game development is somehow different from all other jobs, more special in respect to that? Of course. I was merely referring to game devs, because, you know, that was the topic and I'm pissed at how customers are being treated in general, regardless of whom they ask help from. Also, this debate happens to be in the Tech Chat. QUOTE(Dlaglacz @ Apr 3 2012, 12:56) It's all a matter of numbers. My auto-reply mailbot redirecting them to Tech Support argument still stands. Also, yes, people who don't read FAQs and rules are rude and foolish and should be exterminated, but that's a different issue. This post has been edited by Mika Kurogane: Apr 3 2012, 16:56

QUOTE(Mika Kurogane @ Apr 3 2012, 16:51) My auto-reply mailbot redirecting them to Tech Support argument still stands. If there's a separate tech support, no direct contact to developers is usually given, to avoid such situations entirely. Since the situation covers developer receiving support emails directly, assumption is that either there's no tech support, or that developer is the tech support as well.

Alright. Sorry for making you upset about all that crap, I really didn't intend to end it that way.
And thanks for the information. I'll blame it all on how EA treated me and I want them to go bankrupt in the worst possible way ever.

shame that's not gonna happen since there's enough morons around to purchase their annual rehashes of the same shit to keep them afloat. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

There will always be morons buying software and hardware regardless of quality and support.
That's sad, but that's how it is. That's what Rad was trying to say earlier. However, Operation Black March or whatever that shit was called by Cereal and pals is not a good idea because people are too dependent on the system to actually do something and go for a full-scale protest.
If you want things to change, you have to take action yourself, not tell people "hay guys, let's boycott X" because that just won't work.

I know I've said it before, but many of the catchphrases we create here would make for wonderful slogans.

According to the seller, the advertised Mini DP to HDMI adapter was meant for Apple Macbooks with built-in Mini DP. What, I can't use it on a PC? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

As long as it doesn't require drivers and you manage to "put it in", it might just work...
If it doesn't, uhm, take it back to the shop ?

Last stupid thought: What if I daisy chain two surge protectors? Will I get more protection compared to using a single high end surge protector?

Quoted from [ en.wikipedia.org] Wikipedia : QUOTE Daisy chaining and surge protection
Connecting MOV-protected power strips in a "daisy chain" (in a series, with each power strip plugged into a previous one in the chain) does not necessarily increase the protection they provide.[5] Connecting them in this manner effectively connects their surge protection components in parallel, in theory spreading any potential surge across each surge protector. However, due to manufacturing variations between the MOVs, the surge energy will not be spread evenly, and will typically go through the one that triggers first. So, in a nutshell, it will only help if the other one doesn't work for some reason if I got that right. One surge protector should be enough because it only keeps you safe from ridiculously short power outages. One massive blackout and you're still fucked unless you manage to get your hands on something really special. This post has been edited by Mika Kurogane: Apr 7 2012, 07:14

I knew it was a stupid idea. I wonder if the current max surge protection of 1100 Joules and 32600 Amps is really sufficient for my desktop?

[ www.wolframalpha.com] Not sure if that helps. I still suggest bookmarking that website for future use because it can answer [ www.wolframalpha.com] just about everything. Try asking about 42, why the chicken crossed the road, or who's on first. You'll shit bricks. This post has been edited by Mika Kurogane: Apr 7 2012, 12:10
