A game dev replying to a customer e-mail ? That'd be a first.

If the guy's a game dev, don't you think I would've post it on Game Chat?

QUOTE(Mika Kurogane @ Apr 1 2012, 18:39) *

Also, fuck you, EA. In spite of their extremely rude and disappointing answer ("wrong service, contact Game Advisor who doesn't even know that the game was made by EA and thus won't assist you, won't forward mail to relevant service because 5 seconds is too much to ask) to my sugary mail that took a whopping 1800 seconds to write and polish, they did fix all of the bugs that were mentioned in it.

You're welcome, motherfuckers. Also, count on me to abuse every bug I find from now on because that's how I roll when I'm in a frustrated mood.

Which is pretty much most of the time. :3

Given their history of shitty practices, it's highly unsurprising that their staff is full of shit, from the top management guys to the janitors and interns (if any). That's why I always refer EA as EAss or EAssholes in my posts.

Alright, alright. Please forgive my ignorance and don't be such a nitpicker, gay commander of the Red Fuckerzord.
(No offense intended, I'm merely jesting here. :3)

Last thing I thought : I didn't even know who or what Tomasen was and didn't feel like Googling for it.

Tomasen is the developer of SPlayer, a media player based on MPC. Or rather, a highly simplified MPC with a different interface. A great media player, except that it doesn't support 10bit video format (But I now know how to bypass that weakness. Clue: It supports CoreAVC.) and has a few strange features that I didn't like, e.g. channel & equalizer Controller windows automatically disappear after a few seconds of inactivity & the auto-generated playlist when opening a file.

The only time he ever replied to me was when I reported a bug where Chinese characters appeared in the English language GUI. That was more than a year ago.

Oh right, SPlayer. And that was in your previous post too. Sometimes I should stop reading between the lines.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. :3

You know that when he's replying to you, he isn't fixing bugs or writing code, right?

It isn't like God, who can manage the whole Universe and at the same time still listen and answer prayers and give visions and maintain meaningful relationships with all his believers (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

It only takes less than 5 minutes to answer my questions regarding his media player. It's not like I'm trying to rob his life.

Regardless of the domain, even a single second is too much to ask for when it comes to support.

Personal experience Factual anecdote.

Last thing I thought:

I thought gaming mouse are expensive. CM Storm Sentinel Advanced & Powerlogic Alien G9 are priced at RM200+. But I was wrong. Gaming mouses by a HK brand called Fan Tech costs 10 times lesser.

A gaming mouse ? If you want this for your PC, get a brandless USB optical mouse.
The devices that I'm most pleased with always are the brandless ones. True story.

Also works if they are branded but the brand is not very popular, which seems to be the case in your previous post.

And how many such emails he's getting daily? A thousand? Five thousand? How much of his time it would take to answer each one, daily?

It could be three just as easily as it could be nine thousand one. We'll never really know.

The programmer's reactions are usually the best judgement. If it's three, he's happy to answer them all. If it's nine thousand, it's likely they will be ignored.

Cool devs would have a bot send something like auto-replies with "your mail has been queued (your current position is X out of Y support requests) and you will receive an answer as soon as possible". And then you could ask again later about your current position in the queue, or better yet, it would send regular updates (waste of bandwidth for the team, though).

But I have yet to see such a thing as a cool dev or tech support. All of them are assholes.

Fuck, maybe I should just build my own Cool Dev/Tech Support Institute and make a shitload of money out of it.

That assumes every mail will eventually get an answer. Which doesn't make sense. You wouldn't believe how stupid some people mailing customer support are, and how uninformed most of the rest is. Majority asks about things they can read about on the main page of the project, or in the FAQs.

I've used Logitech accessories for computers for as long as I can remember. They always work better than big name brands like HP and Dell and expensive gaming brands.

I've gone through countless wireless mice trying to find a good one that tracks properly 100% of the time and doesn't mess up at all but no matter how expensive the brand was it would fail pretty hardcore. Then when I built this PC I have right now I bought a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo for 20 dollars and they're both awesome. The mouse has never failed me in tracking and it works at quite a good distance away. It's so good I use it on my laptop when I'm not using my PC.

That's part of their job.

It doesn't take more than five seconds to tell a person's level of intelligence from a mail or a post. Ask Rad for details.

Now, don't get me wrong, I agree with you on this part. Except that's their job and they should do it right. Instead, most of them decide to be assholes to all customers including the ones who are polite and have serious questions, and get paid for drinking coffee, browsing titty sites or playing Facebook apps.

It certainly doesn't take a long time to discern that I'm an egregious moron.

Wait, its a devs job to reply to customer e-mail? That's news to me. I always thought they had other people filter the thousands of crappy emails to pick out legitimate complaints and try to filter them on through to the devs.
