These were at the costco price I paid (currently they don't seem to have the panasonic batteries in their stores, but I hope they come back at some point): Not my pics

be sure to look at reviews though, amazon these days is also plagued with listings that just end up being knockoffs, ironically the least issue I've had with knockoffs is ordering directly from chinese sites and looking at what the reviews say is the quality of the products. digikey and mouser should also be fine

That's why I linked digikey and mouser; you can know you're getting good ones.
I also have, for instance, some Energizer rechargeables that are holding up well that I bought at a supermarket.
I also found old sanyo eneloops in a logitech K800 keyboard.
Apparently there are also Fujitsu branded ones that are good.
Anyway, I just realized I've been using single-threaded xz compression my entire life. So I just got roughly a 3x speed boost (~3.1MiB/s turned into ~10MiB/s). Feels good, man.
I'm compiling wine-staging from source code now, since I realized I haven't done it since August and I'm feeling tempted to try to see how much is broken in Photoshop with it these days.
I have no need of photoshop ever working (I have other tools for most stuff); it's just curiosity, and I have a copy of CS6 floating around on an external disk drive.
Unfortunately the easiest way to build WoW64 Wine (32-bit and 64-bit hybrid, like modern windows) is for me to use a 32-bit chroot, so I have to do a massive apt-get upgrade as I haven't updated my 32-bit chroot's packages in ages.
CODE
499 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 142 not upgraded.
Building WoW64 wine isn't hard; it's just a massive pain in the ass because of this and also because it requires effectively building wine three times (first for 64-bit, then in the chroot to build some 32-bit tools, then again in the chroot feeding it the path to the wine64 build and the path to the wine32 tools that were built previously).
Without the chroot, I only have to build it twice, but I lose some functionality due to a few missing 32-bit libraries at configure and link-time that can't be installed alongside their 64-bit versions (that can actually be worked around, but if I do so I'll lose the ability to update the libraries via apt since it's actually a problem with how Debian packages a few things).

I purchased expensive electrostatic speakers with bluetooth.... They sound good except for when Bluetooth is playing up and dropping out and dropping audio quality...
Only My Electro Mage
Your problem is that you have an Electro Mage. All that biribiri plays havoc with weak bluetooth signals. Your bluetooth transmitter dongle can have much of its signal lost simply by being next to other plugged in USB cables on the front of your PC. One of my machines is a Dell Optiplex which has 4 USB ports close to each other. That PC uses a logitec bluetooth transmitter for both a keyboard and mouse. I kept on getting signal problems until I moved the USB transmitter dongle away from the other USB plugs that were absorbing or blocking the signal.
My workaround solution was to plug in a USB voltage/current measurement dongle. It has a pass-through USB socket and I plugged the transmitter dongle into that. Mine is different from the one shown here because the USB socket is on the very end of the long plastic part instead of the side as you see in the picture. As a result, my transmitter dongle was far away from any nearby usb plugs/cables and I had good clean signal to both the mouse and keyboard. [www.gearbest.com] https://www.gearbest.com/testers-detectors/...9409816548.html
You can also plug the dongle into the end of a simple USB extension cord. They're cheap and about 3 to 5 feet long. That would also let you plug the dongle in the back of the case in case you wanted to avoid using any of the USB sockets on the front of the case. I made a similar suggestion to someone else's similar problem in this forum and it seemed to work for them. So it will probably work for you too.
Digikey has the happy [www.digikey.com] PandA while EH folks have to make do with a Sad Panda.
I have great success with NiMH rechargeables from both DuraCell and IKEA. The cells I have from both of them are made in Japan. Importantly, their NiMH don't have huge voltage sag when used in those cheap Costco LED flashlights. Other brands made in China sag and stop working after a few minutes of use. Various NiMH have been tested by Project Farm. Caution Duracell and Eneloop have NiMH made in China and Japan, so you have to verify before you buy. Other forums tested the chinese ones and they have less capacity and total recharge cycles before they wear out. I always could see since I buy in a retail store.

People are pumping Gamestop shares to pwn Wall Street short sellers.
Investment Bankers: Is this a game to you?
Gamers: Yes, yes it is.
The White House sent a request to the brokers to stop accepting orders but to allow existing orders to settle in order to protect the illegal short sellers. The brokers were also doing illegal "collusion" but the White House seems be ignoring that too. The request from the White House is a big deal since the SEC and Department of Justice are under President Biden. If brokers know they won't be prosecuted for illegal activities during the protection of the various brokers caught cheating the consumers, then the brokers can go ahead full steam.

I knew all of this without watching 20 minutes of videos (because I read a lot). I have some japan-made energizer cells as well. They are holding up so far. Bought my eneloops in person at a costco when they had them. I linked to digikey and mouser because I know where the batteries from there came from.
I have four or so chinese duracells, they're holding up okay for now but I don't have high expectations of them. I got them with a smart charger a few years ago. They're just holding up my Wii remotes until they decide to die. NiMH in general have much less rapid voltage sag than alkalines.
All my batteries are at least five years old now. Most are closer to ten.

Is Amazon better than Eneloop?
No, because they're almost definitely made in the same Fujitsu-owned factory in Japan. Also I hate Amazon far more than I hate Panasonic/Matsushita, which generally sells nice products.
Additionally, I also hate youtube thumbnails with clickbait text plastered all over. I don't think being told to consume a specific brand of product over another is entertaining. I think of that as an advertisement.

Possibly, I have a pair of high end bluetooth headphones that always cut in and out.
The other problem with the electrostat speakers is that you have to have them perfectly aimed at your head, if you move around too much it affects the quality as they are very directional.
Supposedly electrostatic has a bad low end but great highs- personally I like the high end rolled off a bit.
Welp, ran into a big issue in mini-ITX iMac. EDID. The monitor doesn't make an EDID signal (because the imac motherboard already knows what modes to use)- even if I force a modeline at the OS level, that still leaves me unable to interact with the bios or grub, and the system breaks if I reinstall.
I may stick an 8GB Pi 4 in there, I found a decent cooler as they seem to run hot, and found an ATX hat- It has the logic inside to do soft power (ie a momentary power button), turn a psu on and off including software shutdown, and control a 4 pin fan.
Not in a terrible to rush to throw more parts at it though.
Finally ended the base part of the installation of my laptop, some events that happened: - the slmgr /ipk thing to install the windows key from my old laptop to my new one didn't work, I suspect that stuff is obsolete, but entering the key in the GUI part of the system worked without issue, as I had done all the others right things beforehand, no big issue there. - I had to fight a while to get wifi to work. Discovered that I wasn't so clever by whitelisting the mac address of the laptop in my internet box settings while it was connected through ethernet, as I eventually discovered it uses another mac address to go through wifi (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) . I'm pretty sure my old laptop didn't do that. - Screw the idiots that thought giving main control to intel graphic card and only allow to switch to the nvidia for some cases was a good idea (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) . Sadly, it seems they've gained favor and it is nowaday pretty much unavoidable (unless being ready to pay a lot more, in which case you could specifically look for hardware that can disable that in the bios or something).
I eventually discovered it uses another mac address to go through wifi <_< . I'm pretty sure my old laptop didn't do that.
Yes it did. Every network interface is supposed to have a different MAC address. If you had a PC with two ethernet controllers that used the same MAC address, for instance, it'd cause problems. Why would a wireless LAN radio controller be beholden to a different set of rules? They're supposed to uniquely identify interfaces, not necessarily computers, on a network. My wireless router (WRT1900AC) is dual-band. That means that it has to have a separate radio operating on each band, and therefore the two radios are separate network interfaces. On account of this, even in my simple case, the two radio bands have MAC addresses offset by one from each other (both are on the same IC, so it probably made sense for the manufacturer to make their numbers be sequential). These aren't their real MAC addresses, but they follow this pattern (from `ifconfig -a` output):
The ethernet interface also has its own different MAC address (e.g., DE:AD:BE:EF:F0:67). ----

You can force GRUB to use a specific video mode, IIRC. For instance (I grepped my /etc/default/grub):
If you put your machine in CSM-compatible mode, it should default to 640x480 like a VGA BIOS. Also 'nomodeset' might be helpful as a short-term stopgap until you do one of the things I recommend below:
Also, dealing with the BIOS: I have a cheap old device that sends fake EDID info to devices; that's how I got one of my SBC's to work on my 1920x1200 monitor. It's an Extron EDID-101D; since you use VGA you probably could go for an EDID-101V instead. The 101V is just a VGA-only version of the 101D; I bought the 101D because you can still do VGA over it with two passive adapters (and I can also do HDMI through it with two adapters), but you'll get better grounding (and therefore video signal quality) if you use the EDID-101V for VGA. It'll also take less space because fewer adapters. Instruction manual for the EDID-101's [media.extron.com] here. It only supports 50 and 60 hz modes built-in, but since you just need to see boot and use the BIOS that should be fine. Once your system is up to X, you can have it run at 70hz or whatever it was instead with a custom modeline and ignore the EDID from that point on. I think you want modes 1 and 2 (800x600 and 1024x768) at 60hz. It's a pity it doesn't offer a 640x480 EDID.
You could also just use an Arduino or something to send the fake EDID information via I2C, if you'd prefer to do it yourself. There's [github.com] this git repo for instance.
The Linux kernel also has some tools in its source tree that you could use to generate your own EDID ROM image; see the documentation under [www.kernel.org] Documentation/EDID/HOWTO.txt. I remember generating an EDID binary file to get a CRT working at a nonstandard resolution as a secondary display for an intel iMac running OS X using that. You could probably even get the Extron device to read that EDID ROM by using a PC's video output I²C bus to send it out and having it clone it (mode 0 on rotary dial).
Also, once you're out of the BIOS, look into CONFIG_DRM_LOAD_EDID_FIRMWARE.

I have 4 of those extron things in the VGA version, but I need 75Hz. The iMac monitor has a fixed horizontal scan rate, so it can't display unless the resolution and refresh are correct. I'd have to look them up again, but the other two modes are refreshed much faster, and I doubt many things support them. I thought about trying to clone something, and I have a monitor that does 1024x768 75Hz VGA, but it does many other modes that aren't that. As far as packaging goes, I was gonna make a custom video cable anyways to save space, so form factor of w/e makes the EDID is irrelevant as long as I can find a pad for data, clock, power, and ground.

I know that it has a semi-fixed scan rate, but they can support 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768 so I figured they might support more refresh rates as well.
Anyway you can still use the arduino project to fake an EDID. You could also copy the EDID out via another linux machine and edit the ROM. I don't think there are editing tools made for linux, but you could also just do what I said and manufacture your own EDID binary.
It's interesting how these sorts of information operations are run these days on a nation state level using the current technology of the day in order to push national interests via targeting the normal everyday folk using social media.
Using female profile pictures had been a popular method among social media bot accounts for numerous groups for a while, but the layering is interesting, with computer generated "professional/semi-professional" faces for the initial information push and then using "honeytraps" to further amplify it. Gotta love the psychological and gender tendencies being taken notice of and subsequently abused as well, because humans being humans.
Edit: Also, update your sudo packages. CVE-2021-3156 is out.

Just removed the site lock from a couple old flash games (the thing that would stop you from playing unless flash decided it was being served by a certain domain).
Always hated how people did that and now I know enough to be able to remove it.

as someone that doesnt have any social media, kinda worrying to what levels of fakery accounts have to go to be a valid 'real person' these days. cant wait to be denied accounts to stuff in the future because I dont existing on social media and thus cant proof I exist.

Heh. Even my Debian Jessie laptop is on 1.8.10 (from 2014, so vulnerable).
Agreed on the social media thing, worried it might impact my ability to get a job.
