'90 Ford ranger, body is kinda rusty but interior is clean. Included is period correct blanket seat cover. My phone makes the file size like 3x if I rotate the image, and is tempermental with picture orientations.
I run jpegtran (command line tool) on my phone for that stuff.

I'm gonna at least try to test all the functions of the hardware I can, then put the bits I don't want on eBay as buy it now/best offer. Whenever I get to that point I'll drop you link and if you say something in the 'comment to seller' they're yours for postage. 233MHz, 98MB RAM, rev A board I'm told.

I know slot loaders do use normal VGA level RGB/Hs/Vs but with one big caveat: you need an arduino, RPi or somesuch to make it work. There's two data lines you have to send a handshake to (no reply or request to listen for though), a couple of pins to tie together, and EDID data to send out.
Ah, that makes sense. You can get away without EDID data, though, using custom X modelines.

I tried booting it up last night- it made a nice chime and the screen crackled. It sat and thought for a minute, then the tube lit up and it showed me the infamous question mark folder, though the picture was misaligned.

I also tried the keyboard. Has a nice weight to it, and the internal hub is neat. Then I tried pecking at the keys. I now understand why you dissed it, it's awful. Glad I got the entire system for what people are charging for clean keyboards. The mouse is very strange- the two little white things are a red herring, which I had assumed were buttons. You literally press the mouse to click it's only button.
Yep, that's pretty much the mac. If you use the original mouse you'll want a program called "mouseemu" to simulate the second keypress by holding a key on the keyboard while clicking. Is this the "puck" mouse or an aftermarket one? If it's a puck then I think the dots are so you know which way is up. And I'm glad you've seen the light. It has a metal backplate, but that doesn't make it feel like it's not a dead octopus. Also the hub is only USB 1.1.

As for having another x86 system, it is a bit bland. But powerpc, especially 32 bit 7xx stuff seems abandoned by still maintained software. And a dumb rebuild will give me something practical for daily use stuff. My toughbook is i686 if I'm not mistaken, and still need to reassemble the 50MHz 486 laptop. That one is a means to an end instead of to use it though.

Yeah I had that one. It is a one button mouse. Looks neat, just wish it had a wheel and second button.
Mouseemu in Linux can fix the lack of second button problem.

Inside of the G3 is a mac DB-15 video connector. Ordered the parts to connect HDMI to it's internal video cable. I found pinouts online for the PSU cable, the output of the power filter module, and the front panel/speakers cable. Front panel plug is same pitch and pin count as a USB 3.0 header, and power filter output is 26 pin 0.1" header.
I'm gonna start slow and see if I can get a raspberry pi 3B+ to display something worthwhile on the crt.

Do you mean a VGA connector, e.g., HD15, or do you mean DA15 (the wider connector with lower density pins in two rows, as used for gameports and also in the famicom/neo geo)?

Good luck I guess. Wish you'd keep the PPC. ARM and x86 don't excite me.

DA-15 Male cable inside that was going to the collector board. Got a passive adapter to DE-15HD VGA, and an active one to HDMI. I already have some VGA EDID spoofers, but gonna see if I can get away without that. Also intending to wire up the speakers, power LED, and at least attempt to make the power button work. iMac PSU's pwr_on works like the ATX one, but is 5V active high. PSU is only 80W if I remember right, so a Pi 4, D510 atom or some such ~15W TDP CPU is the most ass I'd try to put on it.

Eddy: This 18W TDP cpu motherboard seems like about the best bang per watt amd64 that'd fit the stock PSU. That with some dumb adapter cables, an SSD, a laptop DVD+/-RW drive, the 5V audio amp I already bought, and some homebrew brackets would make a capable enough all in one with no permanent mods.
I am doing dumb things to it, but not doing anything irreversible if I get a decent enough image on the CRT.

Yeah, the G3's were pretty power efficient. So that would make sense. I didn't realize Apple was still using a DA-15 internally on the older imacs (I thought that went away after the beige ones).

My desktop's motherboard's an asrock, mine at least is pretty nifty (H77M, with i5-3350p CPU). Been going at least seven years so far with no hiccups. It's a micro ATX in a full ATX case, though, so I kind of want to see if I can track down the full ATX version of the board. Since it's several years old I might not have much luck there.
Anyway, decent choice. Interested to see how you expose all or most of the I/O on the rear panel. And also to see if you can fit a graphics card in there. If you remove the metal shielding around the CRT and don't worry about radiation (might not be an issue anyway if the tube is lead-lined) you may be able to fit more in it. I bet some I feel like I remember later model iMacs not having that shielding inside. Maybe that was just imacs in international markets.

Apparently the Radeon RX 560 896SP is 45W TDP. And the 550 is 50W.
Alternately you could do the classic Amiga thing and make the PSU for the motherboard separate from the one for the display, and make the external PSU a separate brick that just sits next to the machine. Just make sure the one built-in shares a common ground.
Seen here behind the amiga. Second brick is for the HDD bay.

I'm waiting on a guy I'm buying a cheap tray loader G3 off of. It has some issues, but the CRT displays video and case is in quote good shape. And it's cheap. I was gonna put fairly modern parts inside. I'm gonna look into reusing the CRT, but hard to say yet- It's PSU and analog board take up a lot of space in the chassis, and it may be tricky to interface to.
I'm thinking a mini-ITX board with B450 chipset, a radeon 550 4GB graphics card, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and a ryzen zen+ or zen2 CPU. I already have a 465W supermicro PSU that should fit the bill. A few posts up, I rattled off the ryzens I can new+retail right now.
Not opposed to doing intel, but their line is harder to make sense of, and seems a decent bit pricier for things that look comparable on paper to me. I am opposed to nvidia graphics though.

If Ryzen 3000 or 5000 low latency 3600mhz ram is currently the best performance. Cheap CL14 3600mhz Samsung B-die keeps appearing and disappearing fast.

At least for the time being, opting for a lower power build. I can toss this mobo in a micro-BTX chassis I have if I go further down the rabbit hole on this.

Wasn't planning on a graphics card with that asrock board, not enough power to go around anyways. That, and I doubt it even has enough cpu to be able to really utilize a bigger card. A riser cable might help with packaging if I put a ryzen board in it.

Slot loaders got a 150w psu instead, but idly looking for one didn't turn up anything and unsure if it's even drop-in compatible.

I got a framerate increase when I added a GT 630 to a Pentium 4 system with a PCIe 1.0 x16 slot. Minecraft became playable.
Slot loader PSU might be compatible, if they use similar tubes. But with color CRT's that's the kind of thing I hate messing with because they might need different deflection yokes or something.

Serves people right; there's no reason to have a new GPU for 90%+ of individuals.

Damn you vagabond; now I'm thinking about getting a G3 as well. Even though I have no space and they're objectively kind of trash. Not even sure if I can convince myself to get an eMac which would at least be a G4.

Really the only powerPC macs I should even be considering are late G5 powermacs and G5 iMacs. But I don't know if I have the willpower on this one because I too like the colorful cases.

I've seen a lot of people on the internet shit on Discord in the last couple weeks. Don't get me wrong, I hate it and think it deserves to die (closed source, monolithic, not IRC) but what's with the seeming shift in public opinion? I see furries and pedophilia getting thrown around but can't find a great source on how this all started.

Whatever it is, I hope it kills discord good and dead.

They are on every platform. I haven't seen a moral panic about Furries before though lol.

If you want to arbitrarily crack down on anything you can blame a minority group.

I did see news stories about pedos on Discord recently. I suppose they target any platform where kids are unsupervised by parents.

I don't think the furriness is essential to this issue, just a bonus because newsweek wrote a story about it which I find funny. Always weird (and kind of funny) to see furries get acknowledged in media.

Edit: After further reading, looks like the claim is that discord is turning a blind eye to furries that groom kids or something (while still banning non-furries). I don't know how true that is.
