QUOTE(uareader @ Dec 11 2020, 04:03) My mouse, despite being wired, got a slot specially to add a weight in it (and I did). I wonder what the inventors of the mouse would think of that unexpected evolution of their product?
I don't know if they'd care. Douglas Engelbart's prototype mouse used a steel body. Maybe he'd think it was more comfortable that way. Before mouses all became optical, heavy wired mouses were a lot more commonplace (on account of the weight of the ball). Despite liking optical mouses quite a lot, I do still like the weight of older ones like my Amiga uses (and my Sun mouse, too). I also have an old AT&T branded logitech two-button PS/2 mouse that feels pretty nice, actually. If it had a wheel on it I might even daily it. Click for full resolution. Amiga mouse not shown, but it's just your typical Commodore "tank mouse" (looks the same physically as the ones the Commodore 64 and Commodore 128 used, but not electrically compatible despite using the same connectors because Commodore). [ i.imgur.com] (IMG:[i.imgur.com] https://i.imgur.com/IPy0HEY.jpg) I still like trackballs, where more weight is typically better for continued spinning/inertia. Should I buy Seagate Ironwolf NAS drives, or WD Blue drives? Getting 4 of them in 4TB size to put in hardware raid 5, with an IBM M5015 (basically an OEM version of LSI 9260, cand be cross-flashed with the latters's firmware). I can currently get either for about the same price.

Most people seem to say WD is more reliable; with that being said, I haven't bought a new HDD in six years. It also sounds like seagate isn't as bad now as it was around 2008. I'd probably go seagate NAS just for possible performance gains. Also, NAS stuff should (hopefully) be better backed than consumer WD blues by the manufacturers. I think it's really up to you though. Went with the IronWolf after some research, as the WB Blue is an SMR- and IronWolf is not. SMR has huge performance penalties in RAID setups.

As long as they aren't lying.

Seems that the Bluetooth mouse can only "remember" one device it connects to at a time. Once I paired it to another computer, the mouse won't automatically connect to the previous computer without pairing it again. Is this a limitation of Bluetooth itself or Windows?

I have a couple HDD's that still use horizontal (longitudinal, I mean) recording in regular use. I think the 15-year-old boot drive for my desktop that I keep mentioning is perpendicular, but I suppose it could still use either depending on how many platters it has (500GB).
I wouldn't go for a shingled one, either, though, if I wanted NAS drives.

I still have several external drives from my Amiga days. An external IBM Travelstar in its IBM external case. Some Iomega Jaz drives and some Jaz cartridges. They were working as of when I stopped using them decades ago. Ha ha. Just found them in an old box in the garage looking for things to throw away to make room. There's even a SyQuest external drive and it has a cart loaded into it.

I threw all my old shit out during a council clean up but people can and took it all. Me: 'Wait? Was that worth anything?' This post has been edited by EsotericSatire: Dec 14 2020, 07:45

If it's amiga related, the answer is yes.

They could still be. Amiga software archivists might want them. Also, some joysticks and other controllers are highly desired. I tend to just use a Sega Mega Drive (JP) controller with my A500, but a lot of people want the well-built joysticks. I'd not mind one, but they're too rich for my blood and Atari joysticks (the alternative) are trash.

eBay listing was a scam, gotta wait 10 days for the drives to not show up, before I can open a case and get my money back.
I might end up going with 4TB or 6TB white label drives.

Out of curiosity, how do you know it's a scam already? just the price? Or did they send you something.

The price was 50% of retail on the drives- rather low, but I've seen it before. As for knowing it was a scam- I ordered it late in and the evening and I woke up, eBay had sent me an email- the item listing and sellers's account both got nuked.

Wait, so even if they kill off the account, you still have to wait to get a refund? That's funny. I have a final assignment I have to do in Java and I almost would rather fail the class and not do it.

QUOTE(loli-hujan86 @ Dec 16 2020, 07:25) Finally after a year or two, I've replaced my headphone's ear pads. Turns out no glue is needed. (IMG:[ live.staticflickr.com] https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50726200672_2cb8259b0c_d.jpg) Nice. Mine are rubber cemented on, and all the leather flaked off about six years ago, because Bose (they were free, I swear that's the only reason I have them). The replacement pads for mine are aftermarket and apparently a lot less comfortable, so I'm sticking with the ugly ones that are falling apart instead. I could not have known, For I only read manga. This is a haiku.Anyways, I stayed up all night working on it and I absolutely hated it. If it were in something like C or C++ I would have actually been able to cope better (because if it were C++ I could just have written it like normal C and ignored all the stupid arbitrary Java things). But ideally I could have written it in Lisp or Python (or not written it at all). This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Dec 16 2020, 14:50
