Me, opening up a Commodore monitor to fix, after taking the annoying RF shielding cage off the neckboard. [ i.imgur.com] (IMG:[i.imgur.com] https://i.imgur.com/eKFK05M.jpg) Makes me wonder if CBM (or whoever they farmed out monitor manufacturing to) was experimenting with lead-free solder in 1993. Also a couple of pins broken off the PCB for the tube socket. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Feb 22 2020, 23:50

A nice thing about trackpoint-type pointers is wearing bandadges/gloves does not interfere with using it.

Had to epoxy the 'clip' back on my stylus pen today or it wouldn't correctly eject from it's holder in my laptop.
Hope it holds.

My toughbook has a stylus type touch screen that's fairly decent.
Morse code is hard, trying to learn characters at 20wpm via the Koch method.

My GPU can no longer detect any monitors that are connected through HDMI cables. Probably the only HDMI cable slot has worn out. Either I find someway to fix the slot or buy a new GPU.

reflow the solder. If it's surface mount soldered, you'll probably need to find someone with a hot air station. If the plug is soldered through-hole, you can probably do it with an iron. It's also possible to reflow surface mount with an iron but you'll likely do more harm than good. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Feb 28 2020, 02:44

I miss the Counter Strike/Half-Life era where, when you downloaded something (map, picture to spray, others...), and you could then use it freely, since after all, it's right there on your computer. With all the Starcraft II DLC I got through watching replays (and are still there on my computer of course), I would have economized so much. But having something doesn't mean you can use it...pay me back my SSD usage at least damn it. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

I'm going to donate my RX580 to my brother soon. I have an RX560 spare GPU, which doesn't require an external power connector. Will running the RX560 pose any risk to my 650W PSU due to low voltage/current?

No. An entire PC will suck 35-100 watt on idle depending on components efficiency. And a GPU without external power will only suck a max of 75 watts from the PCI bus, some rare mobo's will allow a little more to around 100 watt. Your PC doesn't need more then 300 watt to run under heavy load.

Corroded, then? I've seen lots with bad solder joints but I don't know if I've seen a bad holder that wasn't submerged.

No corrosion, and they haven't been overloaded. Just poor quality I guess. "MUYI 2 Set Mini Blade Fuse Holder 14 Gauge Waterproof Pigtail Inline Fuse Holder with 15A ATM Fuses"

Using a new HDTV as a monitor, the blurry image is killing my eyes.
It's a 32 inch 1080 lcd tv, i tried editing the EDID so it renders in 1080progressive but it still looks like it's using Interleave, it feels likes i'm displaying 1920x540.
I haven't been able to fix it for a couple of days, i'm thinking of going back to my old monitor which is smaller but at least it looked sharp.

does 720p work? Could be the TV can only do 1080i? If you can try it in Linux/a BSD, you can set up custom modelines using xrandr and try to force 1080p. I have some old extron device that can sit in the middle of the cables and supply fake EDID data, too (selected via a rotary encoder). I use that with misbehaving devices sometimes. It's for DVI but that's just a passive adapter away from HDMI if you're using that. It's perfect for using with one of my SBC computers which uses horrible PowerVR drivers that refuse to set the video mode I want if they aren't fed at boot by the EDID of a monitor (chip maxes at 1080p, but my monitor is 1920x1200 and while it can display 1080p it doesn't report it in its EDID info). Ah, I'd assumed they were the kind you usually see on power supplies and such. The cylindrical type. My car uses the same kind of bosch fuses as the old VW Type 1's did, I often forget those nice blade type fuses exist since nothing of mine uses them. It is strange that those were bad, then. They're supposed to be pretty reliable. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Mar 6 2020, 09:09

What kind of use case is there for having a clock and timer in the browser's status bar? Which staff in Vivaldi's development team thought this is a such an important feature that it has to be integrated into the web browser? Being niche, it should just be developed as an extension.

Agreed 100%, but I guess people decided that the interface wasn't "busy" enough and they were afraid to go full-out Netscape Navigator. It's a shame. To me it or maybe Firefox 2 and 3 represent the pinnacle of browser UI's. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Mar 9 2020, 20:42

I tend to use the mini and standard blade fuses heavily for DC power, as they're shared with the OE electrics of both my trucks. I use glass cartridge fuses in a chassis for 120v line power, I like to leave a spare fuse inside the case. Somehow having a spare ready keeps the fuse in service from popping. Hmm...

My car uses these bloody things. It's long been something I've thought about rectifying, but I've never had the motivation to actually start working on it. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Mar 11 2020, 22:13

I just realise I gave away my box of spares. FUCK.
