I'm thinking I need to invest more into HDDs for archiving purposes.

Font sites are getting smarter at obfuscating web fonts to make it harder to download them Why can't they just let me illegally rip them in peace

Need to see if I can get the 16.04 repo added, comix is no longer in the xubuntu 18.04 repos. The image viewer I have, risettero [sic] won't open a zip.

So the RX580's power consumption can peak over 200W for a meager 10% performance boost. Should have stick to RX480.

I've been using MComix for years. It's still in debian and therefore ubuntu. Opens zips. Appears to be a fork of comix, but I've only used MComix since at least 2014. Also, >Not being able to compile software from source, instead compromising your package managers' integrity by combining SW from two different distro versions Reminds me of when I was very new to Linux distros. So easy to wreck your package manager doing that. Also, with about 5 minutes of patching source files to use PIL instead of the older version of the python image library I was able to make regular 'comix' work mostly. You should just use mcomix, though, it has lots of enhancements and feels about the same to use. Also, I dremelled a slot into my motherboard's main chip heatsink so i could fit a PCI-X card in my PCI slots (a SCSI controller). Been running for 48 hours now so I think it's not damaged anything. I do need another SCSI terminator, though, so I'm pretty annoyed about that. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Aug 5 2019, 09:42

QUOTE(dragontamer8740 @ Aug 5 2019, 05:26) I've been using MComix for years. +1 On debian testing it currently has a bug in which you need to install python-pil by hand (by apt, but the dependencies include python-pillow instead). i.e. you can install python-pil by hand or you can just comment out a line that checks pil.VERSION in the code (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). mcomix's pretty awesome, mostly because the code is very simple to read. I use a heavily tweaked version (e.g. it read a file called sha1.txt inside my zips and print warnings if the sha1 sums do not match).

Oh cool deal, will try mcomix soon. Years ago, you had to compile proprietary nvidia and sometime even wifi drivers by hand. The latter was messy and the former even moreso. I try to avoid it as much as possible to avoid confusing apt and synaptic, but lots more people are posting PPAs or .deb's lately. I got pale moon installed at home, and downloaded an fx2 theme, ublock origin, and set the homepage to blank instead of that start.me abomination. It's prettier and most customizable than firefuchs, but seems slower. Will test more... This post has been edited by Wayward_Vagabond: Aug 5 2019, 18:28

I still have to compile nvidia drivers (the code that isn't already in a blob, anyway). I don't mind since I wrote a script to scrape the download links from nvidia's site for new versions. PPA's are satan's spawn. I like Seamonkey but I also like CDE and FVWM and drive a 90's car by choice, so take it with a grain of salt. I still think it's great though. Also, a little more slowness isn't a problem if customizability is available. And IIRC one of the reasons Mozilla gave for getting rid of the old addon infrastructure was apparently for performance increases (though I think it's mainly because they were tired of dealing with newbies who didn't know XUL/XPCOM and because they didn't want to bother porting it to their new rust engine that they're working on - XUL dates back to the netscape era). I got a Sun Type 5C keyboard from a guy on 4chan the other day. Waiting for my ATMega32U4 and a female 8 pin DIN socket to come in the mail so I can make a USB converter. It's not the best feeling board I've ever used (compared to my boards that aren't rubber dome), but it looks fantastic and I love the layout. Plus it has a compose key, which is probably my favorite key ever because it's an actually intuitive way to create special characters. En Français. Pokémon. A møøse once bit my sister. Brontë. In my experience, PM does tend to slow a bit after uBlock Origin installed and even more as I add several more block lists in addition to the default ones. This happens on my regular laptop but on my gaming desktop, even with around 1,000,000 network filters, the slowdown wasn't noticeable at all.

You didn't have any notice before you allowed it to update?

You don't 'allow' anything if you keep default settings. It even changes windows versions without asking.

Windows Update already downloaded the firmware. Without notice. Reboot to finish the installation was inevitable.

Use the business version then, you should have a stable version that doesn't do shit like that.

I may donate the Wraith Prism to my brother's HTPC. Is this enough to cool a Ryzen 5 2600 while doing some 1080p video editing? Due to his constraints in his budget & space inside the case, he could only spend on super budget slim or low profile 3rd party coolers e.g. Scythe Byakko or Be Quiet Pure Rock Slim. The latter is rated for 120 TDP capability and both have copper base plate, 92mm fan & 3 heatpipes. It's a laptop. Windows is already pre-installed. My desktop on the other hand... This post has been edited by Super-hujan86: Aug 11 2019, 02:12
