So NVIDIA GeForce GTX went 2XX,3XX...8XX,9XX,10XX then jumped to 20XX. I wonder what will happen when the numbers will overlap with non-GTX cards (I used to have a GeForce 6800 or something, and my laptop got a GeForce 9300M G)? I think most people doing a search skip the gtx part, and it barely has enough characters to be used in a search anyway, so maybe they will have to make a more significant change?

Is it possible to install an nvme Pcie x4 SSD if the M2 slot is located underneath the PCIe x16 slot? Is there enough spacing between the SSD and the graphic card?

Just realized that Samsung really uses TLC for their Evo series of SSD products and "3-bit MLC" is not an actual technology but a term that the company invented. QUOTE(Pillowgirl @ Jan 19 2019, 19:09) Yes, i've seen 2 nvme's between 3 pci slots even.
Noted.

AMD Navi is rumored to be launched in July this year. Make sense, since Zen 2 was supposedly going to be launched as well in mid 2019.

The earlier posts make me realize that whenever I went around looking for pc hardware, I never ever at all heard about SSHD or saw any (as a piece of hardware or component of pre-built pc config). Maybe it's only in very specialized sites (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Hardware mitigation against Specter vulnerability is also a highlight of Zen 2.

The threat posed by these branded vulns, while real, is in practice rather exaggerated. That isn't to state that Intel, etc. should be let off the hook for them, of course.

I would be willing to spend a lot more (maybe even x2,x3) on a pc if I could have a 10 (or maybe 5, but decreasing the price accordingly) years contract that any hardware or software under that contract could be easily repaired or exchanged if needed (I doubt that is a synonym of "warranty")

IBM would do that, but even if they still made PC compatibles that would cost you quite a bit more than 2x or 3x what you're likely paying for a computer now. Their bread and butter was support contracts. And you'd likely need to buy one of their server line. On the bright side, the servers were extremely modular, such that nearly everything came in a caddy of sorts. Other companies likely still offer servers with similar concepts in place in x86 architectures. I'd assume HP and/or Dell might be good bets (not that I like either of those companies as much as I used to... HP in particular has fallen far). Also, some companies like Raptor seem to offer negotiated extended warranties on their products if you contact them. They make POWER9 machines, though, not x86, so you'd not be running Windows on them. Not an issue for me. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Jan 27 2019, 11:42

Odd. The shop claimed the PSU is unavailable, then canceled my order after refusing my request for them to order new stock. Few hours later, I saw the same product listing again but no longer marked as "sold out" (thus I am again able to add to it to my cart). If it is really out of stock, it should've been delisted from the shop's page. I did nothing wrong. I paid using credit card and I did not make any unreasonable demands (e.g. must arrive before CNY or special discounts). The due date for shipping out on the 20th Feb. That's a lot of time. Makes me wonder whether the seller decided not to fulfill my order on purpose.

Can't wait for newer chips to hit the stores so that I could fantasize about buying them. Ever.

Some computer components are not hard to compare, for others you can easily find comparers or reviews to know what they are worth, but it seems motherboards escape this, even though it's really important, since you plug everything in it, so if it's dead or no good, all the rest is completely useless. I wonder if there are sites that try to fix that by providing good and complete comparers to get the good features and avoid the bad ones and provide information and advices about Motherboards?

It's very cringy how many people distrusts password managers, even though there are many examples of legitimate applications. Able to memorize passwords is one thing. Claiming password managers are security risks while downloading and running applications with abandon on unprotected devices (both PC and phones) is another. No one ever had their accounts hacked just because they decided to use KeePass.
