QUOTE(dragontamer8740 @ Apr 25 2018, 08:33) What's all of this about "S-Mode?" What the hell is "S-Mode?" I've never had to use windows 10 and plan to continue avoiding it since I am adept in linux distros.
[ www.microsoft.com] https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-sAKA windows 10 but for retards, it removes the ability to install anything from another source other than window's store.

It's meant to be used by the simple folk, so they got the right peeps. Also why doesn't samsung allow me to change the taskbar to any color I want?

I probably will hold off from ripping and converting my DVD collections until AV1's software encoder gets optimized.

If MS admits Windows Phone is dead, they should also admit their store is useless. If M$ is convinced PWA is the future, they should admit UWP is useless.

In case I get optical fiber, I wonder if it would be a good idea to get H@H. Since my computer and hard disk are old, maybe that would bring the date of their demise closer (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

Gaming router is a gimmick, a sorry excuse to overcharge consumers. It's just a regular high-performance wifi router with a custom firmware and modified with a "futuristic" look, which in truth is stupid and ugly. What's next!? RGB!? Seriously! RGB lights on a wifi router!?

RGB anything is stupid. LED's in anything but status indicators or flashlights or screen illumination is stupid (unless you can't touch type and work in the dark a lot - then, white LED's for keyboard lighting may be acceptable). A lot of PC gamers seem to like showing off, though. I think it's sort of like those car people who take their mufflers off and rev at lights to show off their manual transmission 1337-ness and make other car people that aren't obnoxious about it feel embarassed. Having to add a lengthy message at startup of one of my applications to say it won't work normally when run as administrator and the little that can be done is annoying. But since it rely only on Drag&Drop to work, there was no other choice. edit: QUOTE(dragontamer8740) It could check if it's being run as a privileged user on startup and conditonally display that message. That's exactly what I made it do, but it was a pain to have to add this "feature" to inform a potential user of what is going on and how to get around it (for my app only). edit: @dragontamer8740: the program was initially made to run under Windows XP, but the issue come from supporting Vista and newer (tests on Win 10) environment. No idea if similar issue exist on linux since I don't try to check my compatibility with it (with all the distributions existing, not sure what would make a testing relevant for linux in general anyway). What platform is this? It could check if it's being run as a privileged user on startup and conditonally display that message. On Unix systems, you just need to check the UID of the user. POSIX standardizes 'getuid' or 'geteuid' - I'd use geteuid since it's the effective UID. [ pubs.opengroup.org] http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/00969...ns/geteuid.htmlIf it's zero, that's the root user. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: May 8 2018, 02:15

You still haven't answered my other question - what platform?

Other than the countless bugs, there's this: [ news.softpedia.com] Microsoft Blocks Windows 10 April 2018 Update on Some Intel SSDs Due to CrashesMy desktop is using an Intel SSD. Luckily, I delayed the update beforehand. Truly, the latest update is a giant of a disaster.

And the funny thing is that people will still say that Linux distros and the BSD's are somehow inherently less stable. It's as bad as Apple loyalism. Peer reviewed code in the linux kernel catches these kinds of things months before they get pushed out into the more public-facing linux distros like Debian stable and Ubuntu (which always use tried and tested builds and gives them around three months of time for testing before new releases, not accepting any new changes to programs except for bug fixes during those months).
Oh, and you can choose when you want to update. In Ubuntu, you can turn off automatic updates, which actually turns them off, and in Debian there is no automatic updating by default. Most other distros follow the Debian example.
