QUOTE(hzqr @ Apr 11 2017, 19:48) OptiPNG/pngcrush/ZopfliPNG/etc. do lossless optimization, TinyPNG/pngquant/pngqn/etc. do lossy compression through color quantization Quantizers will generally degrade the quality of the PNG since they reduce the size of the color space; 24-bit PNGs (2^24 = ~16 million colors) are converted to 8-bit PNGs (2^8 = 256 colors) while leaving the alpha channel untouched The degradation is especially evident when compressing large PNGs with a lot of colors (it's not a coincidence that TinyPNG uses small PNG as an example in their homepage)
Well, at the time I didn't think much of it. I though since .png is lossless, any compression process would be too. With .svg, it was indeed possible to make it >50% smaller by getting rid of junk data and minifying and though that's what TinyPng was doing too, little do I know that they degrade quality.

SVG is text based, so there are no encoding problems. A decent SVG editor, say inkscape or illustrator, will allow you different SVG variants by using XML namespaces. e.g. you can save an SVG for further editing by leaving inside an XML namespace brushes and zoom levels, or you can vacuum it to the maximum (smallest filesize) and leave only the xml:base="(...)/svg" namespace. To be fair SVG has an issue that objects used for gradients or repetitions are stored in a special part of the document, and some editors do not clean those objects when you delete everything that links to them. There are automatic vacuums for that though.

The moderators at Disquss are all pathetic. They let through lots of troll posts that contain derogatory remarks & swear words, and yet my posts, although many are negative as well but at least they're on topic and minus all the swearing, always get banned.

"How likely are you to recommend Windows Store to others?"
Giving the answer with a zero rating has been so easier.

One year have passed and only now I found out some company has created an Android-based OS that could run on a PC.

So MS wants make Havok as part of the DX12 API via DirectPhysics (What a stupid name!). Unless MS have made substantial tweaks to the pyhsics engine, Havok's physics is laughable. Imagine a photorealistic character getting thrown into the air as if Earth's gravity was only 1/2 of what it is and looking like it's doing a somersault. Havok is that weak. And also, NO. Havok's integration will not be enough to "destroy" Vulkan.

MS wishes to "reposition UWP as a desktop first solution"? What mad disease has Satya the Egghead contracted this time?

Their newest Surface laptop is... hilarious, I guess? The cheapest variant comes with 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD and an i5 processor, which would be fairly competitive in the current market were it not for the inane price ($999 retail) and a crippled OS (10 S won't let you change the default browser, change the search provider or even install non-store apps) It feels like they're trying to out-Apple Apple while failing to realize they're Microsoft

QUOTE Licensing fee is best way to control things, so things won't bite corporations back in the arse. The poster could be a patent troll in RL. If his identity and home address is known, he deserves to have his house robbed clean. Or get shot in the crotch. Free, open standard is still the best path to go.

QUOTE(jplshejeser @ May 10 2017, 21:50) does anybody here still use Uniblue powersuite? Isn't that some drive recovery software? There are fuckload of free alternatives, some pretty hard to use but not all. Reading a disk block by block and looking for inodes and magic numbers that may indicate a file is not rocket science.

I've been using windows 8.1 64 for years now and it works great! It hasn't given me any troubles yet so I won't bother upgrading.
