[ news.softpedia.com] City of Munich considering transition to Windows 10 They could've avoided all the trouble had they decided to use the latest version of Ubuntu. Or maybe Fedora. Speaking of Fedora, I wonder how "matured" has that operating system become?

QUOTE(hujan86 @ Feb 12 2017, 01:16) Speaking of Fedora, I wonder how "matured" has that operating system become? It is pretty neat. It is the only "user friendly" OS that sorted out the cross-compiler packages in their repos. Much better that the shit SUSE is doing, or Ubuntu's "we do not follow standards 'cause we know better".

QUOTE(hzqr @ Feb 15 2017, 04:50) [ www.techdirt.com] https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20170211/...java-apis.shtmlSomeone please just nuke Oracle out of existence So if Oracle ultimately wins, they would have the rights to solicit royalties from Google for "use" of their "copyrighted" APIs in Android? What else am I missing here? What other benefits Oracle could gain from this lawsuit? Or perhaps do they have something against Google?

What else am I missing here? What other benefits Oracle could gain from this lawsuit? Or perhaps do they have something against Google? Pretty much, it's basically a fancy money extortion scheme. The whole concept of copyrighting an API is so fundamentally stupid that only Oracle could come up with it.

Isn't Whatsapp's official desktop client just a web wrapper? I don't understand how the installer could weigh a hefty 80+MB.

Sure, as long as a) you can pick it back up relatively fast if needed, or bÂ) it's not something that could likely come up in the interview (eg don't put in Django or RoR if you don't remember them and you're applying for something related to backend web development, you'd be up shit creek without a paddle if they start asking questions about them)

Finally got around to test whether the RasPi Zero (retail price: $5) can run RasPlex and, in a not-so-surprising twist, yes it can Meanwhile, Apple is selling its Apple TV for something like $180 Capitalism, ho!

[ news.softpedia.com] Yahoo Notifies Users of More Malicious Activity QUOTE This time, it's about the forged cookies which granted hackers access to people's accounts without passwords Yahoo's security is close next to nothing. Probably even 12-year old could hack their network and get away with user data in minutes.

QUOTE Between 2016-09-22 - 2017-02-18 passwords, private messages, API keys, and other sensitive data were leaked by Cloudflare to random requesters. Data was cached by search engines, and may have been collected by random adversaries over the past few months.
"The greatest period of impact was from February 13 and February 18 with around 1 in every 3,300,000 HTTP requests through Cloudflare potentially resulting in memory leakage (that’s about 0.00003% of requests), potential of 100k-200k paged with private data leaked every day" [ github.com] https://github.com/pirate/sites-using-cloudflare And now Cloudflare also shat itself

The game is using it since a couple of days: https://forums.e-hentai.org/index.php?showtopic=202798But it ain't proving to be a good solution I believe (didn't accelerate the turn/second ration thingy, which i believe was the objective). (not that I actually play the game outside of some REs when they happen; so I may be completely wrong) This post has been edited by blue penguin: Feb 24 2017, 22:20

I think the power cord for my laptop is faulty somewhat. I found my laptop powered down the other day, and would not restart. The day after, it restarted successfully, but was working on battery with low time remaining until I moved the cord around and it started recharging. ... Maybe I should seriously consider getting a new laptop, but reinstalling everything is a gigantic work.Even the dual boot is a serious chore.I wish there was a way to force the partitions from my current laptop into a new one, but even then would it survive the change of hardware?Sigh.

^ open the laptop take the two power cables out, cut the cord and solder the stuff together. That's one of the easiest DIY fixes for electronics. Just did the same to a laptop some 2 months ago.
remember to get some isolation tape to put around it. The power cables from the transform have 19V, whilst most things inside are at 5V or 12V, so you really do not want it to touch anything.

I just found an active TCP connection to 111.221.29.114 which belonged to Microsoft in Hong Kong.
