QUOTE(LOL50015 @ Sep 4 2016, 06:54) The fact they are so try-hard in getting people to use windows 10 always seems suspicious.
It would be normal had a salesman walks up to you and say:
"Hey! Wanna try out our new product? It can do blah blah..."
instead its more like:
"Please! Take this away from me! Take it! Look, I'm going to give it for free okay? Just take it!" *secretly tried to put it into your pockets*
I mean, WTF? QUOTE(hujan86 @ Sep 3 2016, 13:52) Kaby Lake & Zen is alleged to support only Windows 10. But how does that work actually? Are they talking about chipset drivers, or are they going to prevent older OS from running on the new platforms via the BIOS/UEFI? I'm actually curious *how* they might do it. BIOS is out of question since you can flash firmware quite easily, and UEFI without a "disable secure boot" button would be castrated by the entire information security community within days (seriously, producing a locked UEFI today is asking to be made a black hat laboratory).

Woo! I just read there won't be a mobile gtx 10 series and instead we'll be getting the full desktop GPUs in laptops albeit with some minor changes.
If the old gaming laptops' pricing model is anything to go by, GTX1060 laptops for $900 sound pretty sweet

The bugs riddling Windows 10 is getting unbearable. Every time a new bug-fixing update is released, brand new bugs, twice as many as before, came tagging along with it. If weren't for this great annoyance, I would've attempt to crack and install Windows 10 on my desktop by now.

Friendly reminder that support for Windows 7 will only terminate in 2020, and there's a chance it could be extended I used to have Windows 8 but downgraded back to 7 after getting annoyed beyond human comprehension
Microsoft said 10 will be the last Windows version ever released, if they stick to that decision there might be no escaping Windows 10 Other than permanently migrating to a new OS, that is.

There's always [ www.reactos.org] ReactOS, an open source Windows OS for Windows 2000/XP/2003. Yes, you heard that right. Open...Source...Windows...OS.

Yay, BRTFS! That thing is actually a lot better than Windows. (not that it requires much to be better than Windows)

LMAO at "last Windows version ever released", there'll be another one even if it takes half a decade. It's not like they can stagnate and expect to remain profitable/not get overrun by the unfortunate juggernaut that is Apple. They'll have to increase the version number or tack on a letter at some point just to make people buy a new product. Also, they'll lose their enterprise userbase if they continue to just push out mandatory updates to Win10 that interrupt important processes with forced reboots.

I doubt it. M$ has a tendency to do things the opposite of what they said sooner or later. Who knows? Win 10 might become riddled with so much bugs, that their programmers can no longer maintain the OS and it ends up as Win XP 2.0.

I have had issues long ago where smaller developers had issues with their keys. I think its happened with about three pieces of software.
I think it was in the 90s, I had to actually drive to their HQ and get an update on floppy disk. Pretty funny. Can't even imagine doing that now.

Been using Windows Media Player since I got my first laptop in 2006. Its Library interface was so intuitive at the time, I resisted my university mates' coercion to install Winamp or Real Player. But now, it's probably high time that I move from a media player that was deprecated in favor of Groove.

M$ totally lied about Edge's performance. Even on a 30Mbps connection, page loading was still sluggish in comparison to Palemoon. Wish there was a way to uninstall Edge, like I did to IE.

QUOTE(chriseras @ Sep 2 2016, 06:36) Ah, heard about that. Support for asynchronous I/O right? That would be quite the improvement. And it is here! Just 5 hours ago: QUOTE Hello Vim users! Announcing: Vim (Vi IMproved) version 8.0 This the first major Vim release in ten years. There are interesting new features, many small improvements and lots of bug fixes. Among the new features are: - Asynchronous I/O support, channels, JSON - Jobs - Timers - Partials, Lambdas and Closures - Packages - New style testing - Viminfo merged by timestamp - GTK+ 3 support - MS-Windows DirectX support Once you have installed Vim 8.0 you can find details about the changes since Vim 7.4 with: :help version8 Or view it online: [ raw.githubusercontent.com] https://raw.githubusercontent.com/vim/vim/m...oc/version8.txttiap/hzqr will also love this. In summary: the channel/job interface got stabilized, lambdas work better (not just funcrefs), packadd is part of Vim itself now no need for pathogen#infect of Plug(). Did not look into the testing stuff. This post has been edited by blue penguin: Sep 12 2016, 21:13

Awesome. Looking forward to using timers. I should also practice my agile programming more. Especially when outsiders walk/peer into the lab. (IMG:[ i.imgur.com] http://i.imgur.com/PcNwBOc.gif) This post has been edited by chriseras: Sep 13 2016, 04:06
