QUOTE(Pillowgirl @ Dec 28 2014, 15:41) Does anyone have experience with this, i want to know if it's more resource intensive to decode video in this codec. [ en.wikipedia.org] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X265Yes, yes it was. That thing is evil and full of patented crap. It might be problematic to get software to decode it in certain countries. Maybe next year we finally standardise a video format (like MP3 or OGG is a standard for sound), fingers crossed for WebM usage everywhere.

What would you buy instead? I got this because it was cheap gigabit and 8 port.

Switches hardly break. I'd argue that any switch is good, and therefore the cheaper the better.

For the price TP-link is usually pretty good. Some retailers jack up the price a fair bit though when people don't know the brands. Generally better than netgear, occassionally TP-link products have weird bugs and don't always get firmware upgrades. Its better than netgear which already makes it a decent choice. Linksys for switches is usually pretty good. ASUS have some good features but some reliability/firmware issues.

I'm using an outdated driver for my usb wifi stick because the default one on the mini disc was just terribad and the newest update had broken code which disconnected me randomly all the time. Did i mention the driver i'm using is from an older model/revision with different hardware and it works perfectly? This isn't the first linksys crap i've had to wrestle with. At least netgear breaks predictably and then you install openwrt or something. Spoiler text - Highlight to read... netgear also has backdoors and hardcoded logins for me to hax This post has been edited by Pillowgirl: Dec 31 2014, 23:10

What? don't you want your router to have extra undocumented access features.
Routers currently affected: All of them.

Don't burn your house down sheepy. Most houses have old copper wiring which is insufficiently insulated or just wrong wired.

How is region-locking in iOS and Android? Let's say there is this Japanese-only game for them and if I were to buy tablet which one should I go for to get the game easier? From what I've read iOS should be fairly easy just change your accounts location to Japan to make the Appstore the Japanese one, but how does it work in Android?

Cannot you just change CODE LC_ALL=ja_JP.utf8 in android? I have a slightly hacked one, one which I can ssh to, so I do not know if it is possible on every android.

I don't have iOS nor Android machines currently so I can't try it out myself. I'd expect there should be a way to use it without modding the phone? EDIT: If internet is correct, looks like you actually have to use VPN with Android and iOS is based on account so you can just make Japanese account. Lot easier with iOS so might go for that, any iOS devices that could be recommended? Doesn't have to be the newest models as I'll only be playing some games with them. QUOTE(Kudowafu @ Jan 12 2015, 19:35) Japanese Google Play? Sorry, never tried to go to google play anywhere else from the default one. I just use it as a phone (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) (and some ssh for file transfer).

One day, they will make computers and techs that you can kick or even bite, thus causing an automated performance optimizing and bug fixing hardware to start. But even without it being invented yet, people will "train" for sure at that way of doing things (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Microsoft just announced that All Windows 7 and 8 can upgrade to Windows 10 free for the first year.. I wonder how will they deliver to upgrade? If it's just Windows Update and not clean install then I can't install it on another setup? Don't really want to update OS on this 5 years old computer, hopefully they give us some option that we can upgrade it on completely new computer.
