I don't like encrypting things.

What the fuck, Google DNS!? All this while I thought Snafu Comics' website was down. Why is it only accessible if I use my ISP's default DNS address?

I was going to try out a new computer store that I haven't been to that was only a few kms away. Whilst looking up the directions, I noticed the reviews were quite low and checked them out.
-Losing people's computers when they put them in for repair -Taking months to repair laptops -Physically assaulting customers -False advertising for availability of parts, and prices and trying to up sell people when the come into the store -Selling people the wrong parts -Lying about warranty
LOL, maybe not. I'll just pay $18 to get the part from a trusted store. My local store which I knew very well, had friends work there in the past and knew the staff, unfortunately closed down. They had great customer service but business wasn't good enough to stay open.

Firefox 29.0 just keeps crashing on me every 15-30 mins with a surge of CPU use (even if I was afk) and "Firefox is not responding message" I've already tried the official suggestion here and none seems to work. [ support.mozilla.org] https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefo...at-random-timeswhich left only 2 options Is there any known CPU leak in Firefox 29, or was I just caught with some sort of weird malware that sets out to crash firefox?

Funny that you mention that, at random times my laptop CPU's temps have been going through the roof hitting 80-90s with just firefox at random lately.

Stick to well tested versions of FF, currently that is around 24.0-26.0
(although full screen mode keeps going bonkers on my FF 24.6 when I try to do full scree in two separate windows)

I wouldn't exclude the possibility that they thought high CPU usage was an UI feature of Chrome and copied that as well

This weekend I wrote (simplified and buggy versions of) grep, cut and sed to operate on logs in JSON format. It was the first time I managed to get the design right the first time, I cannot think of a feature present in the original grep, cut or sed that I cannot add to my versions easily.
I'm fucking proud of myself.

Chrome's weird ass Cpu and GPU usage was necessary for maxing out performance on Crysis 3 though oddly enough. Its the reason I even have it installed as I've said before. Crytek staff were like: "wtf thats the stupidest thing we have ever hear... wtf it works... we'll fix that bug" Unfortunately every major patch they did, somehow broke the fix that they did. Thats some good software engineering.

Well after some network sniffing (just making sure that my browser wasn't sending out anything sensitive), I figure out it was caused by this. Seems like it was stuck in a JS loop of trying (and failing to) synchronize. [ addons.mozilla.org] https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ad...dolphinconnect/Disable it, now everything's back to normal (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) Come to think of it, how do you profile extensions anyway? The profile tools in devs are only for web page (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) On other news, I'm ARP spoofing my flatmates, for learning purpose (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) This post has been edited by holy_demon: Jul 21 2014, 16:17

I opened my laptop up and repasted the TIM and now the temps are down 15-20oC for the CPU back to normal.

Apparently browsers tend to crash if you try to display ~600 2500px-wide images in the same page The more you know
