QUOTE(tiap @ Jan 6 2014, 10:30) Beautiful. Apparently, to create a Windows 8 recovery disk you need a working Windows 8 copy. Even though the fact that you need a recovery disk in the first place should be a clue enough that you don't have a working Windows 8 copy I'm assuming it's all part of the glorious Microsoft Catch-22 Project™.
That's why you make it after a clean install.

May whoever decided to revamp the API and amost all interface screns to the amazon EMR burn in the 7th hell. (although I wouldn't mind if he burns in the 6th or the 8th instead)

QUOTE(hujan86 @ Dec 30 2013, 06:22) [ www.wired.com] Malware on USB Drives Used to Empty ATMs There are ATMs running on Windows XP? Are they out of their mind!? QUOTE(blue penguin @ Dec 30 2013, 07:59) Most ATMs run on MS windows (and most of those on MS windows XP these days). There are only 3 ATM companies in the world: the American Diebold and NCR both run their machines as cheap PCs inside the blinded coffins. These PCs are connected to a normal screen and a couple of extra devices which are controlled by one big application running inside the MS windows OS. The 3rd company is the German Wincor Nixdorf, they produce "clone" ATMs that run exactly like Diebold's and NCR's ATMS these again run on MS windows; and they produce one or two ATM variants running on Linux.
Yeah there was news about this theoretical attack that one hacker had worked out to do exactly this about six months ago, the two ways was via the wireless link and the other a direct connection. I wonder how much they earned selling how to do it. The banks official reply was that the distributed network was secure and that direct connection was unfeasible. Lol until people start opening the cases up rofl. EDIT: my favourite blue screen ever was on the now defunct but still cool OICW. Cool apart from the weapon running windows lol. I hate proprietary battery packs. Vendor lock-in sucks, especially when a product is discontinued.

God, amazon aws is fucking slow (compared to, say, cloudera). How can someone stay in business when each of their configuration pages takes >1.5 second to load. It's annoying.

[ arstechnica.com] http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/01/wha...ith-curved-tvs/like 4k, still not seeing the point of getting a curved TV. a curved monitor usually meant for a single viewer, yes. i'd rather they find a way to improve black levels outside of getting a plasma tv.

The 'point' of 4K is that it should help a more widespread adoption of passive 3D (im not convinced by both either way). Curved monitors look somewhat interesting but nothing that i'd invest my money on.

Great HTTPS Everywhere can't follow their own damn ruleset and the dedicated server provider just told me his provider gave him a big fuck you regarding having additional IPs...
God I hate IPv4.
