The built-in Network and Sharing Center in Windows 7 sometimes goes bonkers even if your line is stable. When I see a red cross and the router doesn't seem to be at fault, I reboot the network card. I pay less attention to the connection lost symbol since Windows 7 spams every device within range with wifi calls every minute or so to scan for new hotspots and eventually manages to reconnect on its own unless the router is down.
