You could just set the Windows Update to restart whenever you want (although it will still nag to you about restarting).
I wait until I'm done with my stuff before I restart. It's just that having to reboot for some kind of 100KB quickfix was totally expected.

Or, y'know, turn Windows Update off.
Reminds me I should start killing off all of them unnecessary services. Those prebuilt computers come with a crapload of them.

I can live with Windows Update, though. It actually fixes shit even though it usually spawns more shit to be fixed later in the process.

Finally, finished creating custom Service Packs for Windows 7. I call it "Service pack 2012", not Service Pack 2 as Service Pack 1 is included in the ISO files.

LoL! I just found out that Windows 7 and Vista are pretty much the same thing. Except that 7 is suppose to be the better of the two. What the hell, Microsoft?!

"Smart" detection routines in antivirus software sure are a great idea. Even official trial version executables get branded as motherfucking malware. And I don't mean the usual suspicious cloud/bad rep threats. Heuristic virus, no less. Amazing.

I should just start using a slightly less paranoid antivirus software. If I could get rid of the current one without formatting my shit, that is. Been using older releases of AGS so far for a few games, just like with KAG, but that crude workaround obviously stops working at some point because the game engines get updated once in a while.

[techreport.com] Driver software to be tweaked to reduce Radeon frame latencies in series of updates

This is good news. For me. Who'll be buying a new Radeon HD7870. I hope the fixes will make it into the next Never Settle drivers. I also hope AMD's engineers won't botch the next drivers with new bugs.

Oh, that's a really loud noise. Hmmm, appears to be coming from the hard drive. Yeah, that can't be good.

If the loud noise reminds you of a plane or vacuum cleaner, check CPU usage and kill frozen processes. Then check temperature and fan speed.

If it's close to a big clank-clank, that sounds more like serious mechanical damage.

Hardcore XP fan.
I do not entirely disagree with that.

EDIT: Or actually, hardcore vista fan... but that's too weird to be true.

Installing IE10 RP for Windows 7 was a bad idea. It fucked up Intel's graphics driver.

I can feel your pain.. Or well, doesn't sound TOO bad.
Last year when my desktop wasn't working I just cried myself to sleep waiting for new parts.
