QUOTE(mikofake @ Oct 25 2012, 02:11) *

I know places that still exclusively use XP and haven't sorted out a migration off of it.

I'm still using XP (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
Though my pc is fully capable running 7 and of course full bloated Vista. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Too comfy to change. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I was gonna change to 7 with new hdd last year, then came the super flood in Thailand causing the hdd price super expensive. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif)

Now I'm planning to migrate to new Windows next year with new PC. Just a plan though, flood not included. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Many people still use XP. I don't move out of a system I'm comfortable with until it dies or stops serving its purpose. I'd still be using it if my XP rig wasn't completely out of commission and I'm one of those pre-built computer users because hardware usually blows up when I try to rebuild something from scratch.

There's still the option to get a virtual machine until it stops working. Just like an emulator, it's legal if you own the actual OS - and you can also fuck that shit and use it at your own risk if you don't.

I'd still be using XP on my desktop if it weren't for the fact that 64-bit XP is fucked and I need them extra 32 bits for all my RAM and HDDs. My old laptop still chugs away on XP and my new one is on 7. My work computer also runs 7. It irritates me so.

I made the move to 7 because I was able to get an enterprise license key pretty easily, and I figured "why not? Might as well give it a go."

I haven't looked back since then, it actually hurts to use XP Pro sometimes. I'm also that insane heretic who actually likes the ribbon interface, while completely being at home with the older menu interface as well. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

As for a virtual machine, if you have Windows 7 Pro or higher you can download [www.microsoft.com] XP mode for free, which basically give you what you need if you need XP for programs that do not run properly in Windows 7.

I wonder if that Virtual PC reward for upgrading your OS is better than just running your XP copy on VMware.

Word documents still look hilariously bad when compared to Latex documents

Edit:

Of all the things that could have been leaking, it had to be the system tray tool.
That's just... beautiful.

Suddenly, memory leaks. Memory leaks everywhere.

I'm getting kinda fed up with all these memory leaks. Shit needs to get plugged up.

It’s not known if Microsoft will eventually release a service pack, or if they’ll use this as an excuse to push users toward Windows 8 – but I think we’ll see a second service pack for Windows 7, sometime next year. [www.eteknix.com] Source

This better be right. Otherwise, I'll have to download all the updates right after installing SP1 on a meager 512kbps ADSL connection before I initiate the backup.

Don't worry you're still at the beginning of your painful journey with the raspberry.
The real hard part is to get your router (and DHCP server) talking to the raspberry pi....

In the end the raspberry pays off. It cannot run ruby on rails but you can manage ruby + sinatra.

As for the forum topic is "What is the last thing you though? (Tech version)" here it goes: "sinatra have poor suport for sqlite when using heroku, next time use mysql"

It seems uTorrent has a very big issue in it's latest version - the "adware toolbar" will still install itself despite being declined by the user during installation process. Maybe it's time to migrate to qBittorrent.
